After trying their new cakes a few weeks ago I did not expect them to have some more new cakes so soon.

It would be good if Arome Bakery room (not to be confused with Arome Bakery ) had their own Facebook page as well then I could get the latest updates when they have new cakes.

Anyway, I happened to walk past and I was intending to get the cakes I did not try last time and it just so happens they have two new cakes!!!
I was even more lucky because they had a Buy 2 get 2 free promotion, so since I was going to try those two new cakes I could get two free.
The promotion starts from 7.30pm to 9pm from Mondays - Fridays.

The two NEW cakes in the range were: Cassis & raspberry mousse slice cake and the strawberry and pistachio mousse.
It was good that you could choose cakes from the sliced caked range and the petites desserts range but since the price is different you get charged as buying one cake from that price range and the other one.

However the Cassis one was on promotion for $28, but for the Buy 2 Get 2 Free promotion, they will charge the full price $30, which explains why the total was $54 and not $52.

But anyway $54 for four delicious cakes is a bargain!

Anyway I chose the two new cakes and for the free cakes I chose the Hochi-Cha which I wanted to try last time and new strawberry cake again because I had a feeling it would taste nice.

Cassis & raspberry mousse slice cake - new product

I was attracted to this cake because on one end of the cake it had blueish powder and the other end was dark chocolate sauce!!

From one cake you could get two tastes.
I started on the chocolate covered end and the mousse part was so light and soft, the taste was so dreamy but the tartness of the berry mousse was well complimented by the dark chocolate sauce.
Moving on to the blue end, it was slightly sweeter, but still tart.

The base of the cake was really nice, it was a biscuit base and above that was some caramel and chocolate layers.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
2 x strawberry and pistachio mousse - new product:

As expected this one tasted the best! I am glad I picked two.
The base of the cake was soft and I really liked that because the strawberry was really light and the pistachio filling in the middle was extremely nutty and buttery reinforced by the strawberry sauce on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
hochi-cha:

This was the cake I did not try last time, I found it quite creamy but the green tea taste was strong,
The bottom layer was creamier and the top part tasted like the green tea filling in the green tea eclair except that it was not so strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway I cant wait for their next new selection of cakes, I'll be back!:

[Review 1852] A colourful dining experience with trendy noodles @ 潮人車仔麵

08/10/2012
潮人車仔麵
紅磡崇潔街8號地下
G/F, 8 Sung Kit Street, Hung Hom
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/a-colourful-dining-experience-with-trendy-noodles-e2262485

When I look at reviews the first thing I look at are photos and I was attracted to this place because of the colourful and clear chopsticks.
I have put off coming here as a priority mainly due to its location as there is no MTR station.

Finally I decided to come here because it was nearish to To Kwa Wan.

Arrived at Hung Hom by ferry, walked and walked, crossed alot of roads until I got there.

This noodle joint is located on Sung Kit Street where there are lots of eateries, however I entered Sung Kit Street from the alleyway end so I was doubting if I was on the right street.

Anyway, was greeted by the young owners and the style of the shop felt really vibrant and colourful, even the air conditioners above were painted to match the front of the shop (which I forgot to take a picture of).

Basically this place sells noodles where you can pick different toppings that you tick on the sheet.
Usually these noodle shops use tacky photocopied paper for these order sheets but here they used quality paper with colour that you would expect for leaflets that you recieve.
Now at MinMax1950, there are no ordering sheet but through their computerized system.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Photos of the restaurant:
Not an area of this joint was left not decorated and the bowls and holders were fun too!

On the glass panel by the counter there was a really nice barcode decal too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried Fish shaomai:
This was no ordinary fish shaomai. It was fried!
As well as being fried, the shape of it was round like fishballs.
The shaomai was quite airy inside. I wonder if injected them with air so that they became round.
Anyway the taste was delicious, the fishmeat was soft and the yellow wonton skin was really crispy and the softness of the fishmeat was similar to foamy marshallow.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles with Thai chicken and coconut broth:

Apart from the thai chicken and coconut broth they also had tom yom kung soup base too.
I really regretted not ordering a third bowl of noodles with the tom yom kung soup base.
For the thai chicken broth, it was an extra $10 but it was worth it.
The bowl is much bigger than the bowls for the ordinary broth because the broth is so nice that you end up drinking it.
The broth had lots of lemongrass and it was really refreshing and the chicken taste was strong and luckily the coconut flavour was subtle.
With the noodles I picked blood curds and chinese radish.
For improvements I feel that the toppings should be served separately from the soup if you order the thai broth because the creaminess of the soup does not quite match the Chinese ingredients such as blood curds and radish.
Despite that the blood curds were full of flavour and the chinese radish was incredibly sweet that I wondered if they were natrually like that or sweetened.
Finally I chose instant noodles because these noodles do not alter the soup taste but surprisingly when I ate the instant noodles it had absorbed the thai chicken and coconut broth flavour which was good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thin noodles with ordinary broth:

These noodles reminded me of Happy Noodles, the broth and ingredients tasted really strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Yuzu and lemon drink:

Even the drink was served in a nice plastic tumbler with colourful swizzle sticks and straw that match the table.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I will be back soon if it was not so far away!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Review 1851] Victorious chicken rice and thai pork knuckles @ 勝利小廚 Victory Kitchen

This restaurant has been around for ages and because it seems to be there all the time I end up trying other restaurants first.

When you walk past this restaurant they have lots of cooked chicken hanging by the windows so their chicken is probably quite good.

I finally tried it because the one I wanted to try was closed.

Ordered the chicken rice with flavoured rice and the pork knuckles with rice set which comes with coke.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:

The soup came with the chicken rice set. Although it was Chinese soup and not Thai wintermelon and chicken soup it still tasted nice.
There was no msg in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hainan style chicken with rice:

The rice was a little too soft but the colour was lovely and yellow, the taste of the rice was aromatic and not too greasy even though it had chicken oil.
The chicken was good as well, there were no bones and after removing the chicken skin there was clean chicken meat left! As for the chicken it tasted fresh and tender.
Although this may not be authentic chicken rice but least I got chicken meat and not fat and bones.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast pork knuckle with rice:

The rice had lots of marinade sauce over it so it went a bit soft. The pork knuckle skin was extremely soft and sticky and the pork knuckle meat was nice and tender.
The pork knuckle was boneless too.
There was generous pickles on top to balance out the heavyness of the pork knuckles.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sauces:

There was soy sauce and Thai chili sauce for the chicken and the Thai chili sauce was quite nice because there was lime juice and herbs in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Satays:

On the way out the satays on the mini griller looked appetizing as well as their sauces.

[Review 1850] Orangelicious deep sea octopus and turkey gizzards @ 多多吃站-鹵味牛什王 Dor Dor Eatery Station

08/10/2012

Shop2,G/F Teda Building,87 Wing Lok Street, Sheung Wan
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/orangelicious-deep-sea-octopus-and-turkey-gizzards-e2262472

I rarely eat from these street stalls because it usually results in food poisoning, but this particular stall is one that I walked past all the time and get the temptation to try it, however every time I pass by it is always crowded and it is right on the corner of the road where everyone crosses the road from.

It was really good because the cabinet had the whole gizzards and octopus tentacles so you could visually see how big they were.
Recently I tried some orange coloured pig intestines which I have never tried before and realised they were really delicious and did not have a foul smell.
The ones that smelt bad were the big intestines with a fatty lining but the smaller intestines looks like huge flattened macaroni.

For these street stalls snacks I just found out that there are two ways of eating the snacks, one is eaten chilled and the other that is blanched.

The snacks here are eaten chilled and surprisingly for this type of snack there are only two sauces to put on it: yellow mustard and sweet sauce.

Finally I had the chance to experience the messyness of eating snacks on the street, holding the skewer away from the body so that you do not drip the sauce on your clothes but on the pavement/road.
Anyway the owner was quite nice, she said I could take my time eating it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep sea octopus tentacles:
I tried the octopus because the tentacles looked huge. It was so delicious I had another one.
The tentacles were extremely tender and the sauce it was marinated in was packed with aromatic spices that are not spicy.
The tentacles looked so glassy and shiny in the cabinet that they were just irresistible.
I tried without the sauces and it was nice but after adding the yellow mustard which had a hint of sourness, it was even more appetising!

First skewer:

Second skewer:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Turkey gizzard:

I was surprised at the enormity of these gizzards, I thought the chicken was fed drugs to enlarge its gizzard or it had some illness.
Then after looking at the menu I found out that these were not chicken gizzards but TURKEY which explains the size.

As for the taste, it was really nice and well complemented by the sweet sauce and yellow mustard.
The gizzard texture was really meaty and did not smell.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I am really surprised that this snack joint only has one review which was dated 2010, so this joint must have been here for quite a while and every time I go past it, there are so many people queuing for it too.

[Review 1849] Jaat Doh Jaat Reggae rhythms on electric road @ 泰國翟道翟街頭粉仔 Thailand Chatuchak Noodle

08/10/2012
泰國翟道翟街頭粉仔 Thailand Chatuchak Noodle
天后電氣道83號利景閣地下7號舖
Shop 7, G/F, Lee King Mansion, 83 Electric Road, Tin Hau
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/jaat-doh-jaat-reggae-rhythms-on-electric-road-e2262462

I have always wanted to try this place every time I walked past because the front of the shop was really colourful.
Basically this shop stands out from Electric Road.

Anyway, the owner of this shop also has a Japanese restaurant called Omerice round the corner.

They used to have a restaurant in Sai Kung but I can't remember what it was.

This place is famous for Chatuchak noodles, at first I did not know Chatuchak was a city in Thailand, I thought it was some cool name and I also thought this place was opened by William Chak.
But somehow the name Chatuchak and Reggae is a good pairing along with the colourful decor.
The signature noodles that they serve look like jelly but I am not a fan of noodles that have a texture like konjac noodles so I tried the Vermicelli and some other snacks.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Nice decor:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Drinks:
I was really surprised with the variety of drinks they had. They had these drinks called red ice and green ice but I forgot to take a picture of them, but apparently they taste like lollipops.
For bottled drinks they had DEDE coconut juice and Oishi tea.
The Oishi tea was an interesting brand because it is from Thailand but they have other Japanese brands under their name and Japanese restaurants too in Thailand.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thai Street style vermicelli:

Basically it was vermicelli noodles in soup with fried pigs skin, fishballs, pork slices and beanshoots.
The broth was just right and not to salty. The fishballs were really cute because they are smaller than the standard ones.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken satay:

The chicken was lovely and tender flavoured with lemongrass herbs.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Glass noodle salad:

I did not know this was spicy because there was no chili sign next to it like some items.
But anyway if it wasnt spicy, it was refreshing as a starter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet potato pillows:

This was crispy toast on the outside filled with sweet potato puree with mochi.
The sweetness was not cloyingly sweet which was good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
DEDE coconut juice:

The drink was really nice with pieces of young coconut.
They serve it with a glass of ice so the drink is even more refreshing.
