拱照車仔麵 Kung Chiu Noodle

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/the-cat-at-the-new-and-bigger-kung-chiu-restaurant-e2263780
Previously this branch and their cat were located on Queens Road East.
I wanted to try that branch but it looked like everything was fast moving so I never went in there.
Recently they moved to Gresson Street and the restaurant seemed more approachable because of the large glass windows and the pink shop front.
There is always lots of people in there and they have this interesting ticketing system at the front.
The cat is also there occasionally and there are photographs of it on the wall.
The food is really good and you can ask for extra rice if you need it, which I did once and the second round they gave me a generous amount, but luckily I finished most of it because the soy sauce and food was delicious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scrambled egg with BBQ:
The scrambled egg with BBQ pork was delicious but it can be inconsistent, on some days it tastes so heavenly on other days it would just taste ordinary!
When it is heavenly it tastes as good as the scrambled egg at Shun Hing in Tai Hang.
The amount of roast pork that they give is generous and it is nice and lean as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken steak in sweetcorn cheese sauce:
The cheese sauce was not heavy because this is a Chinese style restaurant.
There was sweetcorn in it as well and the cheese that they used was the powdered type which does not have strong cheese smell.
I was surprised to find clams in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodles:
This is good once in a while because it is quite oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sauces:
Even though their food is delicious they have a good variety and different brands of sauces.
The double soy sauce was the best, it was so good that I needed extra rice.

[Review 1881] Fish curry and Deep Fried pork chop curry @ 新景園咖喱小廚 Sun King Yuen Curry Restaurant

Havent been here for ages so went back for their curry.
I was also curious and wanted to see if the new curry place across the road has affected their business.
But when I got there, there was still a queue.
Ordered the pork and fish curry.
The order was probably only legible by them.
Luckily the curry sauce was bland that day which meant it was not so spicy and salty.
The rice was extremely hard and clumped together.
Both curries were the same but the colour looks different on the photograph.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried Pork Chop curry:
The pork chop was quite nice that day.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish curry:
The fish was hard and the fish meat did not flake unless you forced it to. I think it was due to the starch coating being too thick.
There was also peanut oil taste on the coating.

[Review 1880] Delicious rainbow trout sushi and milk pudding @ 爭鮮外帶壽司 Sushi Take-Out
16/10/2012
爭鮮外帶壽司 Sushi Take-Out
將軍澳坑口培成路15號連理街102號舖
Shop 102, the Lane, 15 Pui Shing Road, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/delicious-rainbow-trout-sushi-and-milk-pudding-e2263778
After seeing photos of the Rainbow trout sushi on Ilovedisney’s review I decided to try it as well.
This Sushi Take Out branch has been renovated, the cashier used to be at the entrance which was quite a nuisance because it blocks people from entering the shop when there is a big queue. The till is now right at the end at the far corner.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rainbow trout sushi:
The colour of the rainbow trout is vivid and looks like Salmon but without those white patterns in between.
The taste and texture is nothing like Salmon, but similar to Tuna which does not have an oily texture.
I tried it without the sauce and there was natural unami taste to it and after dipping it in soy sauce and wasabi it was delicious.
If you like the tuna sashimi then you will like the Rainbow trout.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Milk pudding:
The packaging was not particularly attractive but the taste was amazing.
The sweetness was just right and the texture is the same as the silky tofu pudding.
Each mouthful tastes like delicate sweet milk curds. Don't be fooled by the wrong English labelling that it is milk jelly as the texture is nothing like it.
I am definately going to get this again!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dream Factory cakes and cream puffs:
They now offer more desserts and mini cream puffs too.
Next time I will come earlier and get the raspberry cheese cake from The Dream Factory line made by The Cheesecake Factory Bakery founded in Detroit.
I wish they had the full range as shown on their website.

[Review 1879] Digitalized noodle ordering and cheap pastas! @ 匯麵一九五0 MinMix 1950
16/10/2012
匯麵一九五0 MinMix 1950
紅磡德安街7號黃埔新天地黃埔花園8期黃埔美食坊1樓116號舖
Shop 116, 1/F, Whampoa Garden Site 8, Wonderful Worlds Of Whampoa, 7 Tak On Road, Hung Hom
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/digitalized-noodle-ordering-and-cheap-pastas-e2263774
Heard about this shop a while ago because of the computerized ordering system.
This shop sticks out on the first floor because of its futuristic design and bright yellow lighting.
It appears that there are seats at the side of the shop but I think they are for decoration purposes only unless they suddenly have so much business that people have to sit outside.
Although the reviews here are negative I came here specifically for the pasta even though pasta is not their specialty, but since it only costs $20 there is not much disappointment if it didnt taste good and also the fun of using their computerizered system.
The pastas they have are either angel hair or fettucine with a choice of cheese sauce, mushroom sauce or black pepper sauce.
There is a page for grilled pork chops and lamb chops which can easily be missed because it is sub divided from one of the pages.
The ordering is done through their tailor made application and then once your order is complete you can pay by OCTOPUS.
Technically the only payment method they accept is OCTOPUS but if you do not have enough credit in your octopus you can pay them by cash and then they will use their OCTOPUS to pay.
For those who are still not sure whether to pay this place a visit, you can visit their website which shows how their ordering system works. There is also a fully functional system at the front of the shop too.
I was puzzled by why they called themselves MinMix1950 and the relevance of the year 1950 has to do with noodles.
I found the answer on their website because these types of noodles became popular in the 1950's.
Usually these noodles are not expensive but they also serve expensive options such as Abalone.
I chose the Gourmet noodles, Fettucine with mushroom sauce and three other items.
When I ordered I forgot to put the last three items as snacks so they were plonked on top of the pasta!!
Hence the weird presentation of Western pasta with blood curds, intestines and Chinese dumplings on top!
Since the pasta and the snacks were not meant to be together, I ate those items first then the pasta.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Gourmet noodle:
This was a mixture of ingredients for those who cannot decide what to get, there was blood curds, chicken wing tips, pork intestines, Chinese radish, pigs skin, red sausage, duck kidney, mushrooms and noodles.
The noodles tasted Ok but was enhanced by adding the sauce they had on the table.
The Chinese radish was sweet and not woody.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Blood curds:
The blood curds were too salty.
Orange small Pork intestines:
These were quite nice and had strong sesame oil flavouring, however there was a slight smell because they had not been cleaned out properly.
Chicken and cabbage dumplings:
On the English menu it says Chicken and broccoli but I think they mean cabbage.
The dumplings were not cooked properly because they were still cold and $8 for two was quite stingy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fettucine with mushroom sauce:
I felt that the sauce was actually tomato sauce with mushrooms and the fettucine was quite rigid and hard that it tastes almost the same as the parpadelle noodles at Yat Woon Min and Freshly made pasta.
They had some spicy sauce which tasted like the sauce at Yat Woon Min, so after adding it to the fettucine it tasted exactly like the noodles at YAT woon Min! What a bargain for $20 if it tastes like the parpadelle noodles at Yat Woon Min and the portion is much bigger too
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sour Prune drink:
This was made by them but I did not like it because it had that signature smokey taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
On my way out, they gave out plastic folders which were nicely designed.

[Review 1878] Tuscani pizza series Part 1: BBQ Sausage bonanza @ 必勝客 Pizza Hut
15/10/2012
必勝客 Pizza Hut
將軍澳貿業路8號新都城中心2期2樓2071-72號舖
Shop 2071-72, 2/F, MCP Central, 8 Mau Yip Road, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/tuscani-pizza-series-part-1-bbq-sausage-bonanza-e2263708
Recently saw the promo for the new Tuscani pizzas, there are three pizzas in the range that have a different cheese in each one.
As I like all the cheeses I have decided to try all of them.
The three pizzas in this range are: BBQ Sausage Bonanza, Portobello passion and Feta n Ocean.
BBQ Sausage Bonanza is pizza with meat sausage, rocket leaf, creamy cheese and BBQ sauce.
Portabello passion is pizza with camembert cheese, portobello mushrooms, grilled chicken and pesto sauce.
Feta n Ocean is pizza with feta cheese, prawns, spinach and tomato sauce.
The Tuscani series is much better than the six cheese pizza because the cheeses are paired to different ingredients and you sample the different cheeses more clearly.
Ordered the TUSCANI COMBO which includes soup, salad, pizza, rice/pasta and drinks for $268.
The soup and salad arrived at appropriate times, when I nearly finished them the mains and the pizza was brought over.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom soup:
The soup tasted milky and the same as Campbell's soup.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetable soup:
Strong tomato taste with generous pieces of cabbage and onion.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Caesar salad:
The salad has improved, and I liked the way the caesar sauce is separate so for those on a diet they can put less sauce.
On top of the lettuce there was parmesan cheese and fine bacon bits.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom risotto:
There were lots of mushrooms in it, however I found the taste too milky.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
BBQ sausage bonanza:
Out of the three pizzas, I tried this one first because the other two seemed nicer and I wanted to try them last.
I found this pizza too sweet because of the BBQ sauce and pineapple, but apart from that the chunky pieces of sausage were good.
The creamy cheese was extremely thick and tasted like dairylea cheese triangles but not as salty as that.
Although this one was too sweet, I will still try the feta and portabello passion because I like feta and camembert.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hot lemon drink:
I was surprised that you pour the water yourself which was fun.

[Review 1877] Japanese tomato curry @ 吉野家 Yoshinoya

Shop G35, G/F, Treasure World (Site 11), The Whampoa, Hung Hom
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/japanese-tomato-curry-yoshinoya-e2263690
These days I go to any branch of Yoshinoya except for the upstairs branch in Mong Kok because they do not let you take photos.
Anyway on this visit I tried the Japanese curry with tomato sauce.
Apart from beef, you can also order chicken to go with the curry and tomato sauce.
They also give you a coupon which has 10% off when you buy tickets to the Halloween bash at Ocean Park.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese curry with tomato sauce HKD38.5:
The curry sauce was the usual Japanese sweet and together with the tomato puree it was really appetizing.
There was a generous amount of curry sauce too.
Since the beef at Yoshinoya is sliced thinly it makes it really tasty as well because there is more sauce on the surface.
The vegetables given were the usual carrots, cauliflower and beans.
