Tried the vegetarian dim sums here before and the shao mai was quite good so decided to try the vegetarian BBQ pork bun.
They also have glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf (Zhongzhi) but they looked a bit heavy.

Vegetarian BBQ pork bun HKD12:
The size of these buns were quite small and cute.
(Just slightly bigger than the average shanghai buns - siu loong bau)
The bun had lots of wheat on it which you could visually see.

The filling was vegetarian BBQ pork which was vegetarian tofu and there were also sesame seeds in it too.

It was delicious and I felt at ease because there was no fatty pieces of pork.
I am not on a diet, its just that I hate that squishy texture of fat.
The only let down was that the filling was cold.

On a funny note I discovered this shop in 2010 and told HK Epicurus about this place because he likes coffee and so that he could give this place the first review.

Anyway, as for myself I have always wanted to try their cakes but I never got round to it, but finally I tried something from this shop.

It was so nice of Mjqueen7e to get me some cookies from Clover.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey tea cookies:
In my opinion these are the best Earl Grey Tea cookies I have had.
Initially I did not know what flavour they were because it did not say on the packet, but the Earl grey flavouring was so strong that I could tell what it was.

I felt that the flavour of these cookies were really successful because I could taste it as well as smell it.
I loved the thickness of the cookie because it was nice and thin.
Not only was the sweetness just right, the butter was not overpoweringly strong.

Having real earl grey tea leaves in the cookies gave it more depth.

[Review 1935] Delicious and colourful pon da rings @ Das Gute

It is really good there is another bakery on the other corner of Metro City, the other side is Panash, but I rarely buy from there.
This joint is much bigger and more spacious than the joint at Tseung Kwan O.

I came in here because it was a new branch and then when I saw the pon de rings I was immediately drawn to them.

I have always loved pon de rings because of its chewy texture and delicious icings.

Not many places in Hong Kong sell them and the one that did in Mong Kok closed down.

They are really fun to eat because I like breaking the pieces off into individual balls.

I realised that I saw the exact same product at A1 Bakery.
After googling A-1 bakery I found out that Das Gute, Cafe Balencia, La Creation and many more are part of the A-1 bakery group.

There were five flavours for the pon de rings: Chocolate, Green Tea, Strawberry, caramel and white sugar.

I wasnt sure if the strawberry would taste artificial so I chose the green tea, white sugar and caramel.
It was good that they put the iced pon de ring in a separate bag.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White sugar pon de ring:

I started with this one first because it had the lightest taste and it looked quite similar to the caramel one except that the white sugar was more prominent on this one.
The white sugar was not too sweet and I loved the chewyness of the pon de ring.
The inside of the pon de ring had a yeasty texture too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Caramel pon de ring:

The caramel flavoured pon de ring was even better, the flavour was distributed evenly and it was not too sweet.
After trying both the white sugar and caramel flavour I thought it was fun to break the pon de ring up and eat the pieces individually.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea pon de ring:

The strong green tea icing on the pon de ring was quite and did not make the pon de ring too sweet.
The chewyness and the icing was a good combination.
The icing was not hard and crumbly, it was similar to thick paste.

[Review 1934] Strawberry and cream roll @ 東海堂 Arome Bakery

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry and cream roll:

Usually I do not like Chinese cakes because they all contain mangoes, canned fruit, weird tasting cream and the cake base tastes weird as well.
However this one changed my opinion.
It only had strawberries, cream and cake and in the middle of the roll there were diced strawberries too.

The colour of the cake was was really peachy compared to the cakes from other Chinese shops which are just pale yellow.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green Tea and red bean roll:

The green tea roll in comparison was much sweeter and the texture of the cake was really soft and moist.
The cake was really soft that it kept crumbling.

[Review 1933] Your average Chinese food @ Date Day Restaurant

Walked past and saw that they had "tong cho yue" which I thought was the Shanghai style fish that is cooked in sugar and brown vinegar so I got it.
Decided to dine there because the seating looked ok, but it costs $40 dining there and $29 takeaway so decided to get a take out.
While I was waiting, there were two cigarette bins beside the entrance and so many cigarettes had not been stubbed out properly so it was really smelly.

Those bins were quite annoying because it encourages people to smoke along Hennessey Road and dump their ciggis there.

It seems that they are open 24hrs a day!!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet and Sour fish HKD29:

When I opened the box, it was just sweet and sour fish with pieces of pineapple in it.
The fish was quite nice but you could taste the MSG.

I found the sauce quite sweet so I scraped some of the sauce away.

Cute signs, nice decor and colourful menus

Came here because they serve the steamed flounder fish.

I like the flounder fish because it is similar to the plaice which is not available in Hong Kong but both of these fishes are flat in appearance.
Not many restaurants seem to serve the flounder fish.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed flounder fish:

As expected this fish was really nice, the taste and texture of the fish was delicate.
I have had it twice but sometimes the fish can have a fishy smell.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried chicken:

The chicken was really impressive, there were no bones and the pieces of chicken were huge.
The overall portion was quite big.
The spring onion sauce was nice and strong too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried ribs:

This dish was quite interesting because they had potatoes in it too.
Although it was weird with potatoes, the potatoes tasted quite nice.
It was good the way the ribs were cut because the meat came off the bone easily.

[Review 1931] Afternoon tea sets @ Old Cheng Du 老城都

Although some of their afternoon tea sets are not really Junchuanhu style, I still tried it anyway.

Chose two noodles.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tomato and fried egg with noodles:

I really liked this because they put spinach in the noodles instead of other chinese vegetables that I do not like.
I liked the noodles they used, they were white and absorbed the broth easily.
The broth was tomato so it was quite refreshing.
The fried egg was just ordinary and I did not expect anything spectacular.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken wings old chengdu style with noodles:

I thought the chicken wings would be spicy but they were not and the tofu was quite nice.
It was similar to tofu in brine.
The noodles were the same as above but the broth had more spices such as aniseed.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
There was also chili oil available if it was not spicy enough.
