Potato noodles with tofu:
Wanted to try the potato noodles so got them here, however the broth that it comes in is extremely hot.
I asked for the broth to be put in a separate bowl because if the noodles were in the broth it would soak up the spicy broth making it too spicy.
As well as the spices, there was a lot of MSG in the soup.
As for the potato noodles I could not taste any potato in it.
The tofu was marinated well that there was a strong marinade taste in it.

[Review 1940] Consistently delicious scrambled egg @ 味皇

Basically this restaurant is located in a food court and you can pick two items with rice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scrambled egg:
I always come here for the scrambled egg which is always soft and supple.
The scrambled egg taste is always intense and it is not overcooked.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tofu:
The tofu had a nice crisp coating and a soft inside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ginger and vinegar braised pork trotters:
The pork trotters were quite nice but too hairy.

[Review 1939] The Mathy collection of best dishes @ 麥菲茶餐廳 Mathy Cafe
31/10/2012
麥菲茶餐廳 Mathy Cafe
將軍澳毓雅里7號富麗花園地下3號舖
Shop 3, G/F, Finery Park, 7 Yuk Nga Lane, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/the-mathy-collection-of-best-dishes-e2266799
This restaurant was quite amazing, anything and everything under the sun could be found here.
They did Chinese dishes, noodles, and even their fries were delicious.
Some of the items they used for the dishes were quite interesting such as dried fishes and thousand layer tofu (chin chaang tofu).
However the food does not taste as good as it used to be so I am just compiling a collection of the good dishes that I had.
Hopefully one day it will taste as good as it used to be.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries:
Although there is nothing spectacular and interesting about the fries, I felt that the quality of the fries here were quite good.
Each and every one was uniformly fried and there were no bruises or burnt bits.
They were golden yellow and fried just right.
They tasted really similar to the fries McDonalds use but the frying oil was different.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spinach noodles:
0 讚好
Instead of boring noodles they had green spinach noodles and there was no MSG in the soup.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf:
0 讚好
0 讚好
This is served for breakfast. The glutinous rice was a bit soft but the filling was quite nice and not too salty.
I liked the way they wrapped it with an extra piece of wax paper as it keeps the lotus leaf fragrance and makes the glutinous rice more fragrant.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet and sour thousand layer tofu:
0 讚好
It was really good they used thousand layer tofu for this because when you bite into the tofu, the gaps in the tofu layers absorb the sweet and sour sauce.
The texture of this tofu is quite meaty.
Apart from sweet and sour style they also do fried Salt and Pepper style thousand layer tofu.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried chives and deep fried little fishes:
0 讚好
Usually these tiny fishes are served as starters with peanuts but here they were stir fried with chives.
The strong taste of chives and the little fishes tasted good together.
However it did not taste as nice as the first time because the fishes were over done this time.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salt and pepper fish tofu:
0 讚好
This was a tofu patty made by mashing tofu with fish and then deep fried and cooked with Salt and Pepper.
I liked it because the tofu and fish tasted fresh and delicate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iceburg lettuce and inmitation abalone slices in abalone sauce:
The iceburg lettuce was delicious and it tasted natrually sweet. The abalone gravy was extremely generous and the inmitation abalone slices were sweet too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Braised pork trotters in Red beancurd:
Again my favourite dish, but sometimes the trotters were too soft.
The peanuts were lovely and soft too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beancurd sheets with preserved egg and salted egg:
Not the usual combination but I liked this combination.
The beancurd sheets and loofah got its flavour from the salted egg, whilst the loofah enhanced the sweetness in the dish.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cauliflower and broccoli with cheese:
This was really delicious. Although it is not authentic I liked the way they put pieces of ham into it.
The cheese taste had been localised so it was quite pleasant and not that cheesey.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed egg:
Nicely steamed egg with rich soy sauce on top.

As always the food here is quite reasonable.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawn and pumpkin pasta:
The pasta was al dente and it had a fair amount of pumpkin and prawns.
The sauce was not really creamy but it was quite savory.
There was also lots of courgettes and mushrooms, however the courgettes could have been softer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Grass jelly sago:
The grass jelly came with the pasta and the sweetness was just right.
The pieces of ice in the desserts were quite big and kept the grass jelly well chilled.

[Review 1937] Vegetarian BBQ pork bun @ 恭和堂 Kung Wo Tong

Tried the vegetarian dim sums here before and the shao mai was quite good so decided to try the vegetarian BBQ pork bun.
They also have glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf (Zhongzhi) but they looked a bit heavy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetarian BBQ pork bun HKD12:
The size of these buns were quite small and cute.
(Just slightly bigger than the average shanghai buns - siu loong bau)
The bun had lots of wheat on it which you could visually see.
The filling was vegetarian BBQ pork which was vegetarian tofu and there were also sesame seeds in it too.
It was delicious and I felt at ease because there was no fatty pieces of pork.
I am not on a diet, its just that I hate that squishy texture of fat.
The only let down was that the filling was cold.

[Review 1936] Lucky cookies from Clover Cake & Coffee House @ 幸福小路 Clover Lane Cake Cafe

126 Wharf Road, North Point

On a funny note I discovered this shop in 2010 and told HK Epicurus about this place because he likes coffee and so that he could give this place the first review.
Anyway, as for myself I have always wanted to try their cakes but I never got round to it, but finally I tried something from this shop.
It was so nice of Mjqueen7e to get me some cookies from Clover.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey tea cookies:
In my opinion these are the best Earl Grey Tea cookies I have had.
Initially I did not know what flavour they were because it did not say on the packet, but the Earl grey flavouring was so strong that I could tell what it was.
I felt that the flavour of these cookies were really successful because I could taste it as well as smell it.
I loved the thickness of the cookie because it was nice and thin.
Not only was the sweetness just right, the butter was not overpoweringly strong.
Having real earl grey tea leaves in the cookies gave it more depth.

[Review 1935] Delicious and colourful pon da rings @ Das Gute
31/10/2012
Das Gute
將軍澳坑口重華路8號東港城1樓125號舖
Shop 125, 1/F, East Point City, 8 Chung Wa Road, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/delicious-and-colourful-pon-da-rings-das-gute-e2266655
It is really good there is another bakery on the other corner of Metro City, the other side is Panash, but I rarely buy from there.
This joint is much bigger and more spacious than the joint at Tseung Kwan O.
I came in here because it was a new branch and then when I saw the pon de rings I was immediately drawn to them.
I have always loved pon de rings because of its chewy texture and delicious icings.
Not many places in Hong Kong sell them and the one that did in Mong Kok closed down.
They are really fun to eat because I like breaking the pieces off into individual balls.
I realised that I saw the exact same product at A1 Bakery.
After googling A-1 bakery I found out that Das Gute, Cafe Balencia, La Creation and many more are part of the A-1 bakery group.
There were five flavours for the pon de rings: Chocolate, Green Tea, Strawberry, caramel and white sugar.
I wasnt sure if the strawberry would taste artificial so I chose the green tea, white sugar and caramel.
It was good that they put the iced pon de ring in a separate bag.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White sugar pon de ring:
I started with this one first because it had the lightest taste and it looked quite similar to the caramel one except that the white sugar was more prominent on this one.
The white sugar was not too sweet and I loved the chewyness of the pon de ring.
The inside of the pon de ring had a yeasty texture too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Caramel pon de ring:
The caramel flavoured pon de ring was even better, the flavour was distributed evenly and it was not too sweet.
After trying both the white sugar and caramel flavour I thought it was fun to break the pon de ring up and eat the pieces individually.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Green tea pon de ring:
The strong green tea icing on the pon de ring was quite and did not make the pon de ring too sweet.
The chewyness and the icing was a good combination.
The icing was not hard and crumbly, it was similar to thick paste.
