Although this place specialises in noodles, I like their braised duck and sichuan food.
I came back for the braised duck and pork trotters.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Braised duck:
This tasted as good as the first visit, but they did not have as much mushrooms as my first visit.
I was really looking forward to those mini mushrooms.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork trotters:
They did not have enough trotters so they gave me extra fishballs and beef belly.
The trotters were nice and soft and the fishballs were too spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:
This was soup boiled with wintermelon and pork bones.
The taste was quite light.

This cake looked interesting so decided to get it because there was chocolate sauce in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rich chocolate cake HKD6:
The cake was disappointing because it was oily and the chocolate was not strong when it is supposed to be a rich chocolate cake.
The texture of the cake was also dense and not soft at all.

[Review 2179] VeggieSF = eating Veggies are SO FUN

There are not many good vegetarian places in Hong Kong these days because the food that they serve are not healthy!
I am not a vegetarian but sometimes vegetarian food is nice and does not have that awful smell that bad meat has and there is no oil or fat.
But saying this, some Vegetarian foods are really oily and too sweet such as those Chinese style sweet and sour tofu skins and curry skins, heavily deep fried battered mashed taro.
When I saw the corraline salad I decided to come here for it because not many places seems to serve it.
I have tried the coralline drink before but it was just like drinking jelly.
I also liked this place because it is decorated like old San Franciso!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Coralline salad:
The coralline was harder than I imagined, they were really hard and the texture was exactly like chicken feet tendons.
The sauce was refreshing but there was dill herbs in it which I did not like.
I would have liked it if they could be served softer, but I am not sure if they are natrually like that, but with algae/seaweeds/kelp you can soak them longer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salt and pepper tofu:
The tofu was delicious and soft inside but the sauce was too sweet for my liking so I did not use it.
I used ketchup instead which tasted much better and the ketchup there is nice and sour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Nuggets:
The nuggets were nice and substantial but the coating was a little to burnt for my liking.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pomegranite tea:
Quite a thirst quencher.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mysterious salad:
Again there was dill in this which I did not like, but overall the salad was quite nice with sweet dried cranberries.
However the portion was slightly too small.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The prices were slightly pricey but eating vegetarian dishes in Hong Kong is as expensive as eating meat!

[Review 2178] Maxim's bun x Cocao Barry crossover @ 美心西餅 Maxim's Cake Shop

Shop 2, G/F, 145 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/maxims-bun-x-cocao-barry-crossover-e2276926
Saw two buns that looked similar, but had chocolate stripes on top so tried them both.
One was round and the other one was longer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate filled bun HKD8.5:
There was too much bun in proportion to the chocolate filling. The filling was solid that day because it was cold, so on a warmer day it would probably be gooey.
It was lovely and rich but not too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cocao Barry chocolate bun HKD8.5:
I was surprised that this bun had Cocao Barry's chocolate.
The filling was denser and it was thick chocolate wrapped in a thin layer of chocolate flavoured bun inside the bun.
The taste of the chocolate was intense with a slight bitterness.

[Review 2177] The moon, stars and days of eternity since 1985 @ 日月星快餐 Yat Yuet Sing Fast Food Shop

日月星快餐 Yat Yuet Sing Fast Food Shop
牛頭角牛頭角道15-19號嘉和園8號地下

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/the-moon-stars-and-days-of-eternity-since-1985-e2276925
When I saw reviews on this place I was intrigued why people would travel from the city to eat in this shop located in the residential area of Kowloon Bay.
The name of this joint sounds nice too "day, month/moon, star Fast food".
They are famous for their fried chicken legs.
Initially when I first came across the Chinese style fried chicken legs I thought they were weird because they are literally deep fried from raw without any coatings, same with the Chinese style deep fried chicken wings.
They all had this weird oil smell with some spices. The ones I came across before were not so good and the chicken was dry and tough.
But anyway, I was still curious so I went there and tried the chicken legs.
It took me a while to find it because it was on one of those residential alleyways where there were more than one along that street.
When I got there I realised that this shop had been running for more than a decade!
The telephone number on the sign was 7-digits only which means this place was opened before 1995 when the eight digit telephone number was introduced with an additional number 2 in front.
The menu was quite complicated since there was so much information on the walls of the shop.
In the end I ordered just the chicken leg.
While I was waiting I got my answer on their takeaway menu and they have been in business for 27 years, so they must have opened in 1985!~!
Since then they have seen the digital era involve from land phones to huge mobile phones to smart phones and the introduction of the world wide web!
The chicken leg was ready in a flash!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried chicken leg:
The temperature of the chicken was really hot, so I could not indulge on it right away.
It was smoking with hot air!
Anyway the chicken skin was really crispy and almost see through that it was fatless.
I usually avoid meat on the bone items on the go because it is hard when there is no knife and fork or plate but I still tried it.
I assumed that because I had no knife and fork I would leave a lot of chicken meat on the bone because the chicken is usually firmly attached to the bone, however it was weird, the chicken came of so easily and the texture was tender just like spring chicken.
I have never eaten a chicken leg to the point that all the chicken meat came off the bone without effort or the use of knives and forks!!
Not only was it soft, the chicken was not even dry.
The taste of Chinese style fried chicken was actually quite nice for the first time that I could finally see why people get so excited eating this.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Went there another time to try the chips.
Chips:
Too burnt and crispy for my liking, but this is probably Hongkie style.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef steak with egg, luncheon meat, frankfurter and curry sauce:
I made a mistake ordering this because I didnt realise it came with so much meat!
The curry sauce was really weak and I probably should have ordered the curried beef belly because the curry paste that they use is different.
The curry sauce was meant for the chips but the chips were too burnt for my liking which was slightly ruined.
Same old problem, it was hard eating with plastic spoons and forks especially when there is a steak involved.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:
The soup was quite nice
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
But overall I would definitely come back for the chicken again and they have quite a few special items on the menu which seem quite good if they can cook it in a small place like this.
The food here is really cheap, the most expensive item only costs $32, and you can even get a King prawn fried rice for $30.5!!!

[Review 2176] Your healthy dose of Chitosan and gourmet food @ 大澳小食
31/12/2012

大澳吉慶街70號
70 Kat Hing Street, Tai O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/your-healthy-dose-of-chitosan-and-gourmet-food-e2276924
Every time I visit Tai O, I always have to visit this place because their food is so delicious, especially their signature pancakes and their chips.
Luckily, for me there is no such thing as yithei (the Chinese definition of heatiness), so I can eat all the fried stuff I want without suffering any sore throats or weird symptoms.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried crabs:
I did not try this last time so I ordered it.
They were deep fried mini crabs which all of it was edible so you can get your dose Chitosan which is a fat blocker or reduces the amount of oil absorbed in the body as well as a good source for Calcium.
It started off quite nice but it got saltier because after you have had a lot of crab it tends to taste salty.
Just like my previous visit, they gave me a shrimp and a piece of fish to try too
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried chips:
I ordered a big portion this time because I cannot get enough of it. The centre of each of the chips were lovely and soft inside.
The coating is just as nice.
Its a pity they do not have vinegar but mixing the ketchup and chili sauce that they have makes a good dip for the chips.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried squid:
The fried squid was a bit too tough for my liking. The frying ruined its delicate texture.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pancake:
Again this was delicious, I had forgotten how delicious they were.
Each piece is separated by a piece of paper which makes them easier to pick up without getting your fingers dirty.
I loved the strong cumin and cilantro taste.

灣仔石水渠街70號
70 Stone Nullah Lane, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/instant-noodles-with-dried-prawn-roe-e2276922
This shop is located opposite the blue house.
A lot of locals around that area dine there.
I went there before to try their tea set because they have instant noodles with prawn roe which is served from 2-6pm.
On my last visit, I got there at 5.45 but they said they had already turned off their cookers which was annoying because I had to come another time.
Anyway this time I got here around 5 and ordered what I wanted to order which was the Instant noodles with dried prawn roes and roast pork.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
roast pork:
The slices of roast pork were thinly sliced and quite lean, however they were slightly dry and hard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles:
The instant noodles with prawn roe were really nice, but the HK style Swiss sauce ruined it because it was really sweet just like syrup.
The sauce is not even Swiss and does not exist in Switzerland!
