Walked past and saw these attractive Thai snacks which I got.
I do not know what they are and they could not quite explain what they were so I will just have to describe how it tastes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cute sandwich:
The small bag contained lots of mini individually wrapped sandwiches which were three pieces of bread sandwiched together.
There was sweet spread in the middle which was very buttery but not too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mini donuts:
The donuts were also cute so I got them as well.
Although they look like donuts they were not and tasted like pancakes formed in a doughnut mould.
These were slightly sweet and a bit too dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Jasmine cubes:
I wasnt quite sure what these were but they had strong Jasmine taste and in the middle there was some starchy filling which was similar to egg yolk/mung beans.

[Review 2220] Mix and Match with style and be a champ @ 蒲點美式酒吧 Champs Bar and Restaurant
21/01/2013
蒲點美式酒吧 Champs Bar and Restaurant
灣仔灣仔道209-219號銅鑼灣利景酒店地庫1樓
B1, The Charterhouse Causeway Bay Hotel, 209-219 Wanchai Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/mix-and-match-with-style-and-be-a-champ-e2280219
I have always wanted to try this place because the of the Liverpudlian atmosphere.
It is slightly similar to Dicken's bar at Causeway Bay, however this place is so much livelier for football fanatics with football shirts and pictures on the walls.
They also broadcast live rugby, formula one racing, tennis, golf and ice hockey and other major sports.
For lunch they offer MIX and MATCH which is basically a semi buffet with a choice of lunch from the list for $108 and if you have a specific credit card there is an extra discount.
Lemon tea is free flow and there was also tea and coffee at the bar too.
For starters, there was various of cold cuts, cheeses and salads.
The bread selection was good because they had my favourite poppy seed bun.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pan seared NZ sirloin steak with red onion and red wine gravy:
The steak was cooked just right and it was nice and tender too.
It came with delicious potato wedges.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Baguette with roasted beef and horseradish sauce:
This was also a must try because it was roast beef from their carvery paired with delicious horseradish sauce.
The horseradish sauce was really nice and made in house at Champs.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
For desserts, the range was quite good and exotic because they had the Singaporean pandan cake and this Indonesian layered cake.
They also had lavender mousse as well for flower lovers.

[Review 2219] Fish Shaomai @ 呂仔記

The ratings for this restaurant are quite evenly distributed so far.
There are about 12X reviews and around 40 reviews for good, average and poor.
I came here because of the fish shaomai.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
fish shaomai HKD20:
The shape of these fish shaomai are irregular compared to the machine made ones.
It was nice that these shaomai did not have grounded bones in it.
The fish taste was not as strong as I expected because there is one in Sai Kung that has a stronger fish taste but they have bones in it.
The taste of MSG in these fish shaomai was light which was good.

[Review 2218] Indonesian Hakka style Bakmi Singkawang noodles @ 三叔小食 Toko Terang Bulan
20/01/2013
三叔小食 Toko Terang Bulan
筲箕灣筲箕灣東大街76號A地下2C舖
Shop 2C, G/F, 76A Shau Kei Wan Main Street East, Shau Kei Wan
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/indonesian-hakka-style-bakmi-singkawang-noodles-e2279940
On this street there are two Indonesian joints, the other one specialises in grilled skewers of snacks and this place seems more down to earth and simpler.
The design they have used looks different and not very local.
This shop is opened by Chinese expats who lived in Indonesia.
As well as Indonesian food, they also cater for the locals because they have the noodles in bags where you can choose ingredients and sauces to put in it.
Initially I was attracted to this place because of the Martabak manis (sweet cakes) for $7 on the flyer and then I saw the noodles (Bakmi Singkawang) so I tried that as well.
They had some stools in front of their shop for people to dine there.
It seems that all the shops on that street have temporary stools and tables for people to eat there.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bakmi Singkawang:
When I ordered the noodles they asked if I wanted it spicy, so I just asked for it to be mild.
Basically the noodles have beanshoots, roast pork, pork strips, spring onions, fish patty slices and pork patty slices.
There is pork because these noodles are eaten by Chinese expats in Indonesia.
When it came, each ingredient was neatly placed on the noodles.
I loved the way how each ingredient was thinly sliced which made it more appetizing especially the roast pork, fish patties and prawn patties .
It was really good the roast pork and pork strips were lean but not dry.
Each element was fully flavoured.
The noodles are Jook-sing noodles so they did not have that alkaline taste.
The noodles were lovely and soft and tasted really nice with the pork slices and spring onions. The prawn patty slices were the best because they were slighty crispy.
Usually I do not like the beanshoots, but the beanshoots here were really nice, each beanshoot was plump and juicy and there was no grassy taste.
Although it was delicious I found it a tad spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Martabak manis:
These sweet cakes looked like the pancakes at Nam ah 1964 but they are different.
They were like a combination of crumpets and silver dollar pancakes, the outside was like a silver dollar pancake but the middle was like a crumpet with capillaries.
There was peanut, coconut and sugar in the middle so it was similar to eating Chinese waffles with peanut butter.
Overall it was nice but I found it too sweet.
They also have a set for the cake which comes with drinks but they were Hong Kong drinks, if they were Indonesian drinks I would have probably tried it but the price would probably be different.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
It would be great if they sold the avocado drink one day!

[Review 2217] Lion's Mane Mushroom and Lingzhi soup @ 印尼沙爹屋 Indonesian Sate House

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/lions-mane-mushroom-and-lingzhi-soup-e2279938
There are two Indonesian joints on this street and this joint specialises in Grilled satay skewers.
As it has a prominent position being the first on that road, it becomes very busy.
There were lots of customers there, however it feels like being in a Hong Kong market trying to order because there is no orderly queue and if your not aggressive enough the people behind you will order regardless of you being infront of them.
I really wanted to try the satay skewers but I wasnt sure if I could get a seat and they can get messy if you do not have any tissues.
In the end I ordered a soup because it was really odd seeing this soup in an Indonesian joint.
I will save the satay skewers for my next visit.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lingzhi and Lion's mane mushroom soup:
In Chinese the mushroom is called "hautaugoo" which basically means monkey head mushroom.
Before I got the soup I did not know what it looked like but when I saw it, I could not see the slightest resemblance it has to a monkey's head.
After googling it, this mushroom is also called a Lion's mane or pom pom mushroom which both I can relate to.
In the soup you can see the mushroom and it does look like a pom pom and a cartoonized lions mane.
There was also pork, carrots, and sweetcorn in it as well but I could not see the Lingzhi.
The taste of the soup was slightly bitter so I wonder if it was the Lingzhi.
The soup was quite nice and you could also taste the sweetcorn and carrots.
I ate the mushroom and the texture was meaty which is why they use this to imitate meat in vegetarian dishes.

[Review 2216] Taro Green tea latte @ cha FOR TEA 天仁茗茶 TenRen's Tea

eslite, 10/F, Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/taro-green-tea-latte-cha-for-tea-e2279757
Tried the taro drink because it contains fresh taro.
There were two choices: Taro Green tea latte or Taro Green milk tea.
I tried the Taro Green tea latte because it was a popular item and it contains fresh milk and not powdered milk.
There was a long queue that day, and they had tea samples but were serving it selectively to people.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taro Green tea latte:
The drink did not really impress me because the Jasmine taste was really strong.
However it was fun with pieces of crushed taro at the bottom, some of it was starchy.
I wonder if there is a big difference in taste between the latte and the milk tea because the latte did not taste very milky.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Interesting green tea tofu!
