I never thought I would be here again but came here with foodies because they wanted to try the fries with cheese.
Since my last visit, there are new items on the menu.
Massive logo!~

Quite a stack of cutlery.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
New items:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Toast with cheese:
I thought this was going to be cheese in the middle of toast but it was cheese in the middle of bread dipped in egg and pan-fried.
It was weird they gave you syrup too!
I tried it without the syrup and it tasted quite nice, just like a croque monsieur without ham and coated with egg oozing with melted cheese in the middle and buttered on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries with cheese:
The chips were dry and the cheese was rubbery and tasteless just like melted and hardened mozzarella.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries with cheese on an earlier visit at tai hang tasted better

Tangy and spicy wasabi sakana supreme 2013

Initially I was not going to try the wasabi sakana burger because I have already tried it last year.

The wasabi sakana burger contains horseradish, mustard seeds, garlic and chili.

The difference this year is that the fish filet is bigger and the sauce claims to be TANGY!

Sauce could be seen leaking out from the box!

Basically it had lettuce and sauce on the first layer but no cheese could be seen yet.

On the bottom layer there was still no cheese!

LUCKILY I WAS DINING THERE SO I COULD ASK IF THERE WAS MEANT TO BE CHEESE THERE AS SHOWN ON THE PRODUCT PICTURE, so they just added two HALF slices of cheese for me on the same burger instead of giving me a fresh one so my burger was lovely and cold after queuing up to tell them there was no friggin cheese!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wasabi sakana burger:
The lettuce in the burger really ruins it.
While I was ordering there were at least two people who requested it without and if it does taste nice, the original would have lettuce in it too.
The sauce was disappointing it was not tangy at all.
If they added some tartar sauce, it may have improved the tangyness and flavour.
The burger was cold because I had to ask for the cheese.

[Review 2410] Cantonese wonderland in a retro cafe @ 奇香冰室 Kei Heung Cafe

Ever since I saw photos of this place I had to come and try their pasta.

There is another place in Sheung Wan which serves pasta with tomato sauce in an old Chinese cafe but the difference is the ketchup is plonked on top and here is it tossed in ketchup.

This restaurant is located on Victory Avenue where there are so many other eateries in competition with it.

Kei Heung Cafe is quite unique on this road being the oldest and operating for more than 4 decades with no attempts to renovate it.

The prices of the food are quite cheap and down to earth compared to other restaurants on that road, so expect queues because people will choose this place because the choice on the menu is simple.

Most people dine there for pasta.

The menu is on two sides, the drinks list is quite extensive and takes up one page.

They even have cold coffee and icecream ( not sure if it means coffee flavoured icecream or coffee with icecream).

The other side consists of pastas, instant noodles and snacks.

The restaurant is quite small so expect to be knocked about every now and then by people walking past.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pasta braised in tomato sauce with shredded omlette pieces, ham and chicken:

The definition of braised here is slightly different from braised dishes in other restaurants. I think they mean spaghetti tossed in tomato sauce.
I really liked the texture of the pasta and it was not soggy even though the strands looked huge and they were easily twirled with a fork.

The pasta was delicious because the sauce was evenly tossed on every strand.
The tomato sauce was so moreish and the taste was not too tangy or sweet with rich tomato taste.
Each strand of spaghetti was firm and the texture was similar to freshly made pasta with a doughy texture. The chicken, ham and egg added more taste and chew to it balancing out the thick tomato sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tri coloured icecream with soda:

Initially I ordered chocolate icecream with soda but I changed my mind and chose the tri coloured one thinking it would be three mini scoops of different flavoured icecreams but it was one scoop of Neapolitan icecream.
There was not much chocolate in the scoop so it was just pink and white.

I took a sip of the soda beneath thinking it was soda water but it was 7-up/Sprite which I did not like but after mixing it, the drink was delicious and tasted like a nice milkshake.

The colour was nice just like a thick strawberry milkshake, but the pieces of ice were about the size of the straw diameter so they kept getting stuck.
It had a nice strawberry and lemon taste with a fizz.

[Review 2409] Come here for Hardcore food choices @ 華園餃子館 Wah Yuen Dumplings

Came here because they are famous for weird and wonderful choices.

When I sat down and browsed the menu, there were more hardcore choices than I imagined.
The menu reminded me of that noodle joint in Tai Kok Tsui called Che Bun Bun that serves expensive noodles and foie gras.

They also have a photos of nearly every dish on the wall too.

Anyway, the location of this restaurant is interesting because it is located in Ho Man Tin which is a residential area for the well off on the Kowloon side.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pigeon egg:

I have never tried a pigeon egg before so ordered one. There were wine flavoured, salt and pepper or baked in salt.
I wanted the wine flavoured one but it was not available so I ordered the one baked in salt.
The pigeon egg was slightly bigger than a quail egg.

After peeling the shell off I was able to eat it, the taste of the quail was really salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles in fermented beancurd sauce:

I have tried making this before but the beancurd I had was too clumpy like feta cheese so it was difficult to mix it together.

The fermented beancurd they used was too sweet, otherwise it would have tasted nicer.
The sauce was quite thick so the noodles got a bit sickly.
It tasted similar to instant noodles in sweet cheese sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken tendons in wine:

There were a choice of pork or chicken tendons and I chose chicken.
I have previously tried them before at Hung's delicacies which were boneless.
The ones here were slightly disappointing because it had brittle bones attached and the wine was not strong enough.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Panfried Fennel dumplings:

Either you love or hate the taste of fennel.
I love fennel so I really liked it but the they could have put more in it.
In Western cuisines they use the fennel root whilst in Asia they use the top part of the fennel which looks like dill.
The size of their dumplings were quite small.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried noodles with prawn roe:

The noodles were quite tasteless and very oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Iced Chinese tea:

There were two choices Pu Erh and Biluochun.
I tried both and I liked them because the taste of the tea leaves were strong.
I rarely drink Pu Erh because it has a muddy taste, but the one here does not.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

On my next visit I hope to try the grilled/panfried oysters, grilled purple potato and deep fried mochi balls!

The blackest vinegar pork trotters!!

I was intending to dine at the famous Tak Lung Restaurant round the corner but it was packed with people so gave up and dined here.

From the name of the joint I assumed they were famous for noodles but at the front they claim their pork trotters in vinegar sauce was also good too so I tried that.

The joint is quite small but there were lots of interesting items on the menu such as the deep fried shaomai with salt and pepper so I tried that as well.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Porks trotter in vinegar served with rice:
When they came I was quite shocked by the colour. I have never seen BLACK vinegar sauce!
It was almost as black as squid ink!

The vinegar they used tasted really nice and it was good quality as claimed.
It was not too sweet and vinegary that I kept sipping spoonfuls of it, and the pork trotters were marinated well in this vinegar.
The texture of the pork trotter were extremely gelatinous and chewy, and the sauce tasted perfect with rice.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried fish shaomai with salt and pepper:

The deep fried fish shaomai with salt and pepper was interesting so ordered it!
I thought it was shaomai tossed in salt and pepper but when it came it was deep fried shaomai sprinkled with salt and pepper.

The taste was quite nice but the salt and pepper was clumped together so the taste of salt and pepper was not evenly distributed.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken wings in vinegar:

The chicken wings did not taste as nice as the pork trotters because they were not pre-marinated.
The tofu pieces were panfried and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and tasted nice when it was dipped with the salt and pepper from the Shaomai dish.

At this branch of Kung Wo Tong, they have a glass cabinet section that serves Vegetarian snacks.

Not all branches of Kung Wo Tong have it, anyway got some Vegetarian Shaomais.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetarian Shaomais:

The vegetarian shaomais here are weird and I do not know why I keep getting them again and again.
They taste really artificial and rubbery.
They smell weird too!
