Went past and saw these buns looking like Hot Cross Buns so got some to try.
Interestingly, it has a Chinese name called +bun because of the markings on top.
They also looked like a scone too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
+ bun:
Basically it was really similar to a scone and before it was baked it had egg yolk brushed on top.
The taste and texture was the same as a scone and very crumbly.
I found it too sweet and after eating half, I did not eat the rest.

Reviews from supersupergirl on openrice for Hong Kong and Macau restaurants
[Review 2533] Dim Sum convenience shop by May Wong @ 味皇點心

味皇點心
油麻地碧街54號地舖
G/F, 54 Pitt Street, Yau Ma Tei
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/dim-sum-convenience-shop-by-may-wong-e2297810
I rarely dine in Mong Kok but stopped by because they sell Dim Sums and no one was there.
It is not a restaurant so you either buy takeaways or eat there at the bar table.
They sell the standard dim sums served at most restaurants.
There are sauces and condiments.
One of the rice rolls I wanted to order was not available.
After asking the staff they said it was temporary unavailable and it was duck rice rolls.
At the front of their shop they had home-made fish shaomai too, the fish puree in the shaomai looked a bit grey, similar to daceballs.
I would have ordered the fish shaomai but I wasnt sure if there would be grounded bones in it.
It appears that they are a branch of May Wong's because the logo from the ordering form is the same.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawn dumplings HKD15:
The prawn dumplings were ok, there was nothing overly exciting or bad about them.
The prawn meat inside was white and de-gutted with the usual taste of bamboo shoots.

[Review 2532] Toko Surabaya at Quarry Bay @ 泗水印尼商店 Toko Surabaya

泗水印尼商店 Toko Surabaya
鰂魚涌英皇道1044號福昌樓12A地下
G/F, 12A Fook Cheong Lau, 1044 King's Road, Quarry Bay
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/toko-surabaya-at-quarry-bay-e2297786
Came on the right day but at the wrong time because quite a lot of the food was sold out.
It is located in the residential area of Quarry Bay between Quarry Bay MTR and Tai Koo MTR.
Locating this place was easy and I felt that it was easier walking from Tai Koo MTR than QB MTR because it is downhill and the station is not so irritating.
This joint sells Indonesian goods and foods and there is a table to dine there too.
It has been here for ages and LittleMeg and "sainamdaiocknam" has dined here before so I was expecting the food to be good here.
Originally I wanted the flavoured yellow ginger rice but it was sold out so I got the Indonesian assortment with rice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Indonesian assortment with rice:
It was rice topped with beans, egg, peanuts, chicken, beef rendang and Chayote slices.
I liked the Chayote slices (Buddha's hand melon) because it was sweet and soft but not many people eat them in Hong Kong because they are used for soups and people find them tasteless.
The rest of the meat had strong coconut taste and the beef was slightly spicy but nice.

[Review 2531] Mini chiffon series @ 美心西餅 Maxim's Cake Shop

中環港鐵中環站CEN E18號舖
Shop CEN E18, Central MTR Station, Central

Saw the poster for these new Mini Chiffon series which looked cute.
There are three flavours: chocolate, pandan and vanilla seed.
The pandan and chocolate are not new except for the vanilla seed.
They had Jasmine flavoured floral pudding which reminded me of the pudding I had at The Dining Room.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mini chocolate chiffon:
The chocolate chiffon just tasted like the usual soft chocolate cakes sold at Maxims, it was not great but tasted better than the Vanilla seed chiffon.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mini vanilla seed chiffon:
The taste was disappointing, you could not taste any vanilla or any vanilla seeds in it at all.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Both these cakes were nicely presented but in terms of taste there was nothing special about it.

[Review 2530] Chinese chocolate swiss rolls @ 凱施餅店 Hoixe Cake Shop

Not that I like this place but the association is limited to a budget of $4 for person.
They used to get egg tarts and butter cakes from this place but no one likes it.
So now they got the Swiss roll which can be sliced and shared.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate Swiss roll:
Thankfully the chocolate Swiss roll tasted normal, they also had the original one which was disgusting.
This chocolate roll is not nice but at least its not too sweet and the chocolate covers the nasty salty buttercream.
It did not end up going directly to the bin along with the egg tarts and butter cakes.
It is hilarious every month listening to the comments from the Westerners because the East cannot obviously meet the requirements of the West!
Hilarious comments from Westerners:
"It tastes like sock"
"Is it edible?"
"It's disgusting"
But with a budget of $4 per person and limited manpower there is not much you can ask for.

[Review 2529] Crispy tofu fish puffs @ Kam Wing Tai 甘永泰魚蛋

G/F, 106 San Hing Street, Cheung Chau
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/crispy-tofu-fish-puffs-kam-wing-tai-e2297697
After trying these on my first visit, I was back for more.
They have two branches next to each other and I always go to this one.
I am slightly confused because some reviews say that it is minced prawn tofu puffs but the woman that sells it says that it is minced fish.
The exterior of this looks like smelly tofu with an interesting surface similar to loofah/bamboo pith.
This texture is created by slicing tofu puffs in half, turning it inside out, stuffing it with minced fish paste, sticking them on skewers and frying them.
The exterior is extremely crunchy, and the filling is slightly chewy with lovely fish taste.
It costs $10 per stick with table tissue wrapped around it which keeps my fingers lovely and clean.

[Review 2528] Thai style Ice lollies at Cheung Chau @ 花園雅座 The Garden Cafe/Pub

長洲東灣路84號地下
G/F, Tung Wan Road, Cheung Chau
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/thai-style-ice-lollies-at-cheung-chau-e2297696
On my previous visit to Cheung Chau I have always been captivated by this stall selling ice lollies but I never tried it because there were always people surrounding it.
I found the huge revolving metal barrel/drum interesting and the Chinese letters seem to say that they are made to order.
Anyway, I am not quite sure how they can freeze the ice lollies that quickly but all of the lollies are in a slim metal mould with a chopstick in the middle acting as a lolly stick!
They look similar to the British brand of WALL's mini milk ice lollies
I have not been to Thailand before so I do not know what Thai style ice lollies are meant to be.
These Thai style ice lollies only cost $8 and the size was not too big which was good.
It was perfect for people who were going to try snacks at every stall.
The ice lollies probably froze quicker at that sizel.
There were eight flavours: Watermelon, sesame, tea, coffee, coconut, mango, melon and taro.
I only considered the taro because the rest were standard Chinese flavours which I was not fond of.
After ordering, the guy rotates the drum/cylinder to get the required flavour.
He either lets you take it out of the mould or he takes it out for you.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taro ice lolly HKd4:
The ice lolly was quite watery and icy, it was not milky but tasted of taro.
The sweetness was just right and the size was not too big which was good because it meant I could try other delicacies on the island.
Basically they tasted the same as WALL's mini milk ice lollies with taro flavour.
