Previously had a tasting at this branch and when we left, we were given some coupons to get two
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate pudding drink:
On this visit, the chocolate tasted quite powdery but the pudding on the bottom was delicious and eggy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple drink with jelly:
Tried this drink because Ivy said that it tasted like Heinz baby apple juice drink.
The acidity was low so it wasnt very sour, and it tasted like sweetened cooked apple puree.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
New drink - kanten jelly and green jasmine tea:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Jasmine tea and croissant set for $15:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Melon cake:
The sweetness was just right and the jelly was not too sweet and I appreciated how the standard of this cake has remained the same as the tasting a few months ago.
The pieces of melon were mushy and soft which worked with the type of jelly they used.
In the middle, there was delicious cake and cream to balance it out.

[Review 2727] Back for more musubis @ 華御結 Hana-Musubi
14/08/2013
華御結 Hana-Musubi
灣仔港灣道28號灣景中心大廈1樓8號舖
Shop 8, 1/F, Causeway Centre, 28 Harbour Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/back-for-more-musubis-e2314339
Originally I planned to go to Texas chicken and ribs nearby but it was too hot that day to eat roast chicken, so I went to Hana-musubi instead.
Ended up getting a salad with two musubis and a soup.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Special miso chicken:
The pieces of chicken in the musubi were quite chunky and tender, but the miso was not strong enough.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese style pork tomato curry:
There were lots of thinly sliced pieces of pork but the tomato and curry flavouring was light despite there was so much curry sauce in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
White collagen chicken meatball soup:
This tasted as good as my first visit because on my last visit the soup was too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Kewpie caesar salad sauce from China:
For my salad I chose caesar salad sauce which was by Kewpie, but surprisingly it was manufactured in China.
The taste was not that creamy with a hint of sweetness and the sauce was really runny.

[Review 2726] Peach champagne cake @ LGB Cafe

1/F, LHT Tower, 31 Queen's Road, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/peach-champagne-cake-e2314338
There are not many branches of LGB in Hong Kong and when I am in central, there are so many other temptations that take me away.
On this visit, I tried the Peach Champagne which was the only interesting item in the cabinet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Peach Champagne:
Mousse cake with ripe blushing peaches, champagne jelly.
For a decent place like this, I was surprised the jelly finishing was not so good.
The surface had tiny craters just like the moon and obscured the specks of gold.
Overall the cake was quite nice, but there was no champagne taste, the peach taste was weak, and the jelly on top tasted like strawberry jelly.
I felt that the cream stole the show because it was thick and creamy, a bit like clotted cream with a hint of mascarpone cheese in it and it is made in house at LGB.

[Review 2725] Great food, but I am still hungry @ Café&Meal MUJI
14/08/2013
Café&Meal MUJI
銅鑼灣波斯富街99號利舞臺廣場3樓
3/F, Lee Theatre Plaza, 99 Percival Street, Causeway Bay
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/great-food-but-i-am-still-hungry-e2314326
Muji is a well known Japanese brand that sells stationary, household and consumer goods.
Muji is distinguished by its design minimalism, emphasis on recycling, avoidance of waste in production and packaging, and no-logos and basic colours used in their products.
As well as goods, you can now eat there too at Café & Meal MUJI.
To match their style, the restaurant is also simple and minimalistic.
Before ordering you choose a table and they will put down the reserved sign to indicate that it is taken.
Basically there are sets.
There is a set where you can choose 3 or 4 items from the cold and hot selection and there is a butter curry chicken.
The sets comes with rice/ten grain rice and a soup/drink.
For the 4 item set, you have to choose two dishes from the cold deli and two from the hot deli.
Cold Deli:
Hot Deli:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Four item set:
1) Baked mackerel with tomato curry sauce (hot)
There was not much tomato or curry taste, but the mackerel itself tasted ok.
2) Japanese style Sargassum salad (cold)
This was my favourite because I liked the sargassum algae and it was refreshing.
3) Omelet with assorted vegetables (cold)
I know this is meant to be cold, but it was icy cold.
4) Miso eggplant gratin (hot)
The miso taste was not strong but there was minced meat in this dish as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ten grain rice:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oolong tea:
The oolong tea was surprisingly good because it had a strong leafy taste.
After I finished the drink, I ripped the teabag and found whole leaves inside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken salad with black sesame sauce:
This was a good mix of french beans and chicken in black sesame sauce.
The colour of this sauce reminded me of of the black caesar salad at Beautifood.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Butter Mixed Vegetables Chicken Curry:
I am going to make the same comment as 梵高將軍
The amount of chicken in this is PATHETIC!
If I am in a non meat eating mode then this is great, but I was in a meat eating mode that day and I was mega hungry and there was one ONE PIECE of chicken in the curry and the other three were potatoes.
The amount of rice was stingy but to be fair the curry sauce was delicious an buttery and not spicy at all.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
On my next visit I hope to try the tofu prawn patty from the hot deli section and the chicken burger.

[Review 2724] Quick stop for ice cream @ 九記冰室 Sovergel Cafe
14/08/2013
九記冰室 Sovergel Cafe
新馬路羅結地巷9號B
9B Travessa do Roquete, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro
https://www.openrice.com/zh/macau/review/quick-stop-for-ice-cream-e2314100
I was on a food tour and we were taken to this place by No 1 openricer who has written over 7000 reviews and the most reviews on OpenRice and is now a full time blogger.
Initially I thought it was an ordinary Macau cafe but then I realised they served home made icecreams, so Lai Kei Ice Cream is not the only one that serves ice cream.
If we did not stop by today, I would not have known that.
As well as icecreams they serve soda floats and guava juice which is not often served in Hong Kong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Icecream trio $20:
There were so many flavours so I ordered the not so common ones such as Guava, ginger and taro.
I wanted to order orange and pineapple as well but you could only choose three scoops.
Basically the texture of the icecreams were quite coarse and icy because they were homemade.
In general, they all tasted really good, you could taste real guava fruit and fibre in the guava one and the ginger one was quite milky with a hint of ginger and taro was the best, it was not too sweet and tasted natrual with pieces of taro.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

[Review 2723] Sakura Green Tea with lychee @ MIX

MIX

Shop 126, 1/F, Sun Hung Kai Centre, 30 Harbour Road, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/sakura-green-tea-with-lychee-e2314089
I have always wanted to try MIX but their locations are quite inconvenient.
As I was in the area, I stopped by for a drink.
The restaurant is modern and simple.
I ordered the Sakura green tea with lychee.
The one above it seems interesting too with more fruits.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sakura green tea with lychee HKD28:
The green tea was extremely bitter and the sweet lychees complimented it nicely.
Definitely a nice thirst quencher and I hope to try the fruit one soon.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cute receipt:
On the bottom left hand corner, there is some really tiny print.
It turns out to be a coupon printed so small that you cant see it!

Shop B&C, G/F., 26D Jordan Road, Jordan
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/black-sausages-but-not-black-pudding-e2313929
Black Bridge is a new shop from Taiwan.
On my first visit I wanted to try their sausages but they were understaffed so I didn't try it.
Thanks to Ivy for getting me some candied ginger and crispy pork crunchies.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Candied ginger:
The ginger was covered in brown sugar and it can be eaten just like that or dissolved in hot water as a drink.
It was quite nice as a candy and the ginger was not that strong, the brown sugar taste was more prominent and fragrant.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crisp pork jerky:
The pork jerky was extremely thin and were rolled into rolls.
It was wafer thin and crispy just like crackers with lots almond, black sesame and dried shrimps in it.
The taste was sweet and the smell of dried shrimp was strong.
