I have been past this restaurant quite a few times but the outside just looked like an ordinary restaurant so I never would have guessed they did Dutch food in there.

The name of the restaurant didn't sound Dutch, but it was a nice name.

I found out it was Dutch from the reviews so decided to go there just for the Poffertjes.
The last time I had something similar were the Dutch oven pancakes which were like big yorkshire puddings.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Poffertjes:

Poffertjes are made with yeast and buckwheat flour which look like small, fluffy pancakes. Unlike American pancakes, they have a light, spongy texture.
They were like cute coin pockets that were soft and fluffy with delicious powdered sugar on top.
I felt they tasted great without the icecream because the icecream was too overpowering.
Although there is no cheese in the recipe, it tasted like there was cheese and it was savoury too which was even more delicious.
They were so delicious, I finished them really quickly!
I'll be back.

Discovered this place as I was at another restaurant nearby.
It appeared to be a cake shop but I did not know it was French until I walked in and saw the owner of Chez meli melo who was helping out that day.

There were various cakes and quiches but I tried the Clafoutis because it was freshly made by them.
The last one I tried was a frozen cherry one by French brand CASINO.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Clafoutis:

Basically it was a bit like a sweet flan with lots of European fruit in it from blueberries, strawberries and pears.
The sweetness was just right and I liked it because it was crammed with lots of fruit pieces.
It was slightly different to the frozen one I had because that one just had cherries and it was much sweeter.

Found out about this bakery because I was at a restaurant nearby.
It would be hard discovering this bakery on openrice because there were not many recent reviews even though this place has been here for YEARS!!

They had a good selection of British pies, quiches and cakes.

The one that caught my eye was the blackforest cake.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Blackforest cake:

After removing the plastic sheet that was around the cake, I knew I made the right choice choosing it!
As well as the cherry on top, you could see whole cherries in the middle.

There were at least NINE WHOLE cherries in this cake! (Money well worth spent already and this cake was only $34)

The price of this cake was extremely reasonable too compared to other crappy local cakes which only give you chopped cherries and cheap cream.
As well as that the chocolate shavings on top were amazing because they were NANO thin and melts in your mouth. They were as soft as snowflakes.
The cake as a whole was delicious, the chocolate sponge was light and the cream was deliciously fresh whipped cream guaranteed with a juicy cherry in each bite because there were so many cherries in this cake!
I'll be back!
Best of the British.

Got these mooncakes from Joy and Joy after a tasting.
The mooncakes were quite sweet but I loved the egg custard filling because the egg yolk was mixed in with it.

The mooncake pastry was quite thick.

Got these lovely Wang Yue mooncakes from OpenRice.
Wang Yue is made by the chef who made the Peninsula mooncakes.
Compared to the other batches, my were quite brown.

After taking them out, the pastry was quite soft, so I refrigerated them for a while so that the pastry was harder and held the mooncake together.

The mooncakes were heated in the microwave for a few minutes and there was a strong buttery smell.
The taste of fragrant custard egg filling and buttery pastry were delicious together.

[Review 2852] Trigger ready? Dog ready? Let's go Hot Dog hunting @ 熱狗家族 Trigger Dog Family

There are not many good places for hot dogs and some of the good ones have closed down such as Toppings which was just a few roads from this place.
Other good Hot Dog places that I like include Tsuen Wan's Hot Dog family, Sai Kung's juicy J's and now this one.

I saw it listed on OpenRice and was immediately attracted to it because the name Trigger Dog Family sounded American.

After checking their FB, I knew I was going to like it because their Hot Dog names and design was really nice and not Chinesey.

The owner is a designer which is why the design is flawless and how a hot dog shop should look with the matching decor and posters.

Basically they have five hot dogs which represent the Trigger family, each with a story behind it illustrated on their menu.

Their hot dogs are inexpensive because Hot Dogs are a common thing in the US just like sandwiches in the UK, so their basic hot dog only costs $20 a la carte.

The hot dog itself is quite big so it is extremely filling and they have potato wedges too if you order the set which are baked and not fried making it oiless.
All the ingredients are fresh and do not contain preservatives.
The buns were how they should be and not local sweet tasting buns!!!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Photos of the shop:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Menu:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Trigger's dog:

Frankfurter sausage with their signature sauce.
This is the most basic hot dog on the menu and it was really nice.
The frankfurter and soft hot dog bun were great together and the sauce complimented it nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Essie's Dog:

Cumberland sausage and honey mustard.
This was a very meaty hot dog because of the cumberland sausage and it was very juicy dressed with sweet honey mustard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Papa's Dog:

Debrecziner sausage with caramelized onion sauce.
The taste of this was slightly similar to Essie because it was sweet as well, but the taste of this dog was stronger because you can really taste the caramelized sweetness in the onions and the sausage had a smoky tone to it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wendy's Dog:

Cheese knacker krainer sausage and tailor made bolognaise sauce.
I liked the meaty sauce on top and the sausage was filled with cheese in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Boston's dog:

Nueremberger sausage and black pepper sauce.
This was the one I was looking forward to and it tasted just as good as I expected it to taste because Nueremberger sausages are juicy and packed with flavour.
The pepper sauce was amazing too because there was an interesting aftertaste, there was a slighty minty feeling to it similar to sichuan spices.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Brownies:

The brownies were just as good as the hot dogs, they were freshly baked so they were still warm.
It would be great if it came with whipped cream.
They were soft and moist and tasted like those molten soft chocolate cakes with a rich chocolate content that was not cloyingly sweet.
It was so nice that I scoffed two pieces!
To avoid disappointment, call to check its availability because it is often sold out.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

In conclusion my favourites were Trigger, Wendy and Boston.
For frankfurter lovers, you can go for Wendy or Papa.
For sweetness lovers, you can go for Essie and Papa.
For people who like British sausages, you can go for Essie or Boston.

[Review 2851] Another retro eatery @ 福珍寶茶餐廳 Fook Chun Bo Restaurant

At lunch, this place is invisible because there are crowds of people outside and it looks so old and tatty I did not really want to go in.
I finally gave this place a visit on a quiet afternoon.
Inside, everything was old as expected.
The staff were interesting, they had pride and arrogance.

Stir fried instant noodles with baby squids:

When the noodles came, I was impressed because I could not smell that nasty oily which you normally get.
The noodles were perfect and not too soft.
Each strand was fully flavoured with soy sauce with a stir fried taste that was not rancid and there was a good balance of julienne carrots in it.
The baby octopuses were just quick frozen ones so they were slightly tasteless but the overall saltiness of the instant noodles were just right.
