Had a really burning stomach because I just had some extremely spicy food so decided to sooth the irritation by having some strong fatty cheese.
(It works for me anyway, which is probably why you get soymilk in Shanghai cuisines to sooth the spicyness.)
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
English extra mature cheese:
I chose the extra mature cheddar because I wanted a really strong sharp tasting cheese.
The cheese had nice savoury and sharp tones.
It soothed my burning stomach nicely by forming a lining on my stomach.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry trifle:
There are two trifles at M&S, strawberry or fruit. On this visit I got the strawberry.
The strawberry trifle had strawberry fruit puree jelly at the bottom and deliciously thick custard in between with gorgeous whipped cream on top.
It was cooling and soothing as a dessert, especially the custard layer which was deliciously creamy.

[Review 2989] Delicious toasted hot sandwiches at Pret @ Pret A Manger
26/11/2013
Pret A Manger
中環港鐵中環站大堂W6號舖
Shop W6, Central MTR Station, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/delicious-toasted-hot-sandwiches-at-pret-e2333027
Had a craving for bread again so went to Pret for something simple but delicious.
As I have already tried their wraps and salads, I went for the hot sandwiches which are located in the sandwich section in the fridge.
There were two sandwiches which were tempting:
Ham & English Cheddar Hot Sandwich
or
New York Deli
In the end I got the New York deli because it had cheese and sauerkraut in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
New York Deli:
The New York Deli had emmental, honey mustard mayo, pastrami and sauerkraut.
It was heated after I paid for it.
When I collected my toasted sandwich, it was very hot and the smell of multigrain bread was so nice.
The delicious melted cheese and pastrami were complemented nicely by the sharp sauerkraut in between the crispy soft slices of multigrain bread.

Thank's to Garycwm for these cookies.
Inside the bag were assorted cookies in various of shapes each with different ingredients on top which were icing, chocolate, nuts and cranberries.
These cookies were very buttery and crumbly which were balanced nicely by the different ingredients.
My favourite was the chocolate because it was not too sweet and added a nice chocolate flavour to the cookie.

[Review 2987] November special: Praline and peanut croissant @ Le Salon Restaurant et Croissanterie
26/11/2013
Le Salon Restaurant et Croissanterie 此店已改名為Moments Lifestyle Café
銅鑼灣軒尼詩道500號希慎廣場13樓1302號舖
Shop 1302, 13/F, Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/november-special-praline-and-peanut-croissant-e2332864
After seeing reviews on the new apple croissant and the Praline and peanuts croissant, I decided to go there for the apple.
This month they have: apple, praline and peanut, chocolate, plain and white truffle.
I wanted the apple really badly but it was sold out, so I tried the Praline and peanuts.
After paying for the croissant, the guy at the counter just passed me the croissant wrapped in tissue even though he knew I was dining there, he didn't give me a plate so I had to ask for one which was annoying!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Praline and peanuts:
As usual their croissant is perfect, crispy outside and soft inside with a gentle sugar coating.
The praline and peanut filling was surprisingly nice to a non peanut butter lover.
The filling was creamy and the peanut had a gentle crunch, just like the peanuts you get in peanut butter.

[Review 2986] Will J&G Fried Chicken stay for good? @ 繼光香香雞 J&G Fried Chicken
25/11/2013
繼光香香雞 J&G Fried Chicken
將軍澳坑口培成路15號連理街110B舖
Shop 110B, the Lane, 15 Pui Shing Road, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/will-j-g-fried-chicken-stay-for-good-e2332809
Before J&G Fried Chicken came along, its predecessor on this street was Big Big Chicken but now they have moved to a smaller unit at the Food Kiosk which is probably cheaper to rent.
I am not a Taiwanese food fanatic but Ji Guang from Taiwan has opened its first store in Hong Kong on November 20, as part of its expansion plan in Asia.
As well as Hong Kong, you can also find them in Singapore but the food options are slightly different, they have fried squid in Singapore.
For more info you can go to their site at jgssg dot com
Currently the menu in Hong Kong is limited and will probably be expanded later depending on hows thing go.
The items that they serve are:
- Crispy chicken nuggets
- Crispy king oyster mushrooms
- French fries with green onion and garlic
- Spa chicken filet (white meat)
- Ice fruit tea/Iced tea/Plum tea
I had my doubts on the chicken so I opted for the crispy king oyster mushrooms which are diced bite size pieces of king oyster mushrooms dipped in batter and fried.
Although this is vegetarian, the mushrooms are fried in the same oil that the chicken was fried in so if you're a strict vegetarian then beware!
After the mushroom is fried, they are put in the metal tray to be served.
Then they are put in another smaller metal bowl and weighed so that every portion weighs the same, and then seasoned with spices.
While I was waiting for the fried mushrooms I thought I could hear the staff singing or rapping.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy king oyster mushrooms:
Before I tried it, I assumed it was going to be really oily with lots of oily oozing out but surprisingly it wasn't and the batter coating was really crispy and thin.
The oyster mushrooms were really juicy, meaty and earthy too which went nicely with the crispy batter that was flavoured by the spices.

[Review 2985] Fishalicious Fish tacos @ Seasalt

Seasalt

23 Mosque Street, Mid-Levels
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/fishalicious-fish-tacos-e2332797
"one man's misfortune is another man's gain"
Found out about the new fish tacos through an unfortunate reviewer who didn't get a chance to try the fish tacos.
Before I went, I called to make sure they were still serving them.
LUCKILY they answered the phones because when they first opened, they did not answer the phones.
Outside the shop, there was a board promoting the Fish Tacos.
From Monday to Friday, there are other offers going on, please refer to the Weekly deals.
The restaurant decor was much the same as my previous visit.
It was nice of them to provide water as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish Tacos:
The strip of fish was covered uniformly in batter and fried nicely.
The coating was crispy and thin just like tempura.
I really liked the fish taco because of the sauce was extremely acid with a very hot fiery kick balanced by the julienne crunch of purple cabbage and chopped coriander with piping hot fish in the middle.

[Review 2984] Highly disappointed @ The Globe
24/11/2013

中環蘇豪嘉咸街45-53號地下A舖
Shop A, G/F, Graham Street, Soho, Central
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/highly-disappointed-e2332525
Previously heard so many positive comments about this place and their food, but I never got round to trying it because I didn't know where it was.
Finally found out where it was located and was recommended this place again by a Scottish Chef who owns a place that serves breakfast as well.
Since a Scot recommended this place to me, I was quite confident about recommending it on an article for their Christmas meals especially since they had Bubble and Squeak.
But to be safe, I felt I had to try it out first.
Checked their online menu and was elated to see WHITE PUDDING offered for Brunch from 12-3pm on weekends and public holidays.
Got there at 2pm and the waitress said brunch had ended, so called the manager up later in the evening to ask about Brunch times and he said that she had given me the wrong information so I decided to give it another go and went a week later.
Basically you can either choose from the menu or see what pies they have available on the boards.
Ordered a pie which was a must and ordered the breakfast because of the white pudding!
The one and only place in Hong Kong that serves white pudding.
[White pudding or oatmeal pudding is a meat dish popular in Scotland and Ireland, similar to black pudding, but does not include blood. Consists of pork meat and fat, suet, bread, and oatmeal formed into the shape of a large sausage.]
After I ordered, I was told there was no White pudding so changed it to black!
I wish I just left it because black pudding is available at other places and it does not cost as much as this place which sells it for $35 per slice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The Globe breakfast:
Apart from the black pudding, I was also pissed with the egg and bacon.
As you can see, the edge of the black pudding is missing so I was a bit annoyed because the star of the show cost $35.
Then the second thing that annoyed me was the fried egg (sunny side up), you could see the egg white was was crispy and brown!
If I wanted an egg like that I would go to a damn Chinese Cafe, and get a Chinese fried egg.
The frying pan seemed to have bits in it before they fried the bacon because it turned out quite black too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef, beer and mushroom pie:
The pie was amazing as expected, and the mash was creamy and buttery.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
On a sweeter note, they had jars of sweets for sale.
There were dandelion and burdock, humbugs, fruit salads, banana chews, giant gobstoppers, blackjacks, aniseed balls!!
They had pickled items too.
Photos of The Globe:
At the entrance, it was quite cute that they used a Chinese ceramic pot with the handle broken off for fag ash and butts.
