I love the beef rice rolls at this place so came back again.
The standards have kept the same on this visit which was good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef Rice rolls:
The beef filling inside the rice rolls have been grounded so finely and reconstituted with flour that it no longer tastes like beef and there is strong tangerine peel which makes it even more delicious with a citrus taste that makes it not so heavy.
The rice roll skin was thin, which is a good balance in ratio of beef to rice roll.

For Disney fans, they are going to adore these Mickey and Minnie mouse mousse cakes.
To protect these cakes during transportation, they have a piece of decorated card around the cake that serves as a design as well.
After it is removed, it looks like this.
Basically, both cakes have a dome shaped chocolate mousse cake on top which represents the head with two round pieces of thin chocolate stuck on it for the ears.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Minnie:
After slicing it, there are layers of cake, mousse and jelly.
I liked this cake because it was a mix of chocolate and strawberry mousse with soft layers of cake in the middle and the sweetness was just right.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mickey:
The Mickey cake was basically a double serving of chocolate mousse cake with crispy Valhrona chocolate which is rich but not too sweet.
A great cake for chocolate lovers.

I have tried this cake before so I knew I was going to like it.
The one I tried had a heart in the middle, whereas this cake has Mickey on the cross section of the slice.
Heart Cake:
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2300167
This cake is quite interesting because it is frosted with butter cream on top and it does not need refrigeration.
It is a dense and hard chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream on top decorated with coloured stars and Mickey mouse macarons.
The taste of this cake was really nice, the texture of the chocolate cake was firm and slightly dry which was balanced by the smooth chocolate butter cream which had a faint salty taste.
The chocolate had a strong rich cocao taste with a touch of bitterness so if you like proper Western cakes, then this the cake for you.
It is a fun cake to share because people will be impressed by the Mickey Mouse shape on the slices.

[Review 3176] Champions @ 豪火鍋 Champ Hot Pot

Thanks to KC for treating us to a Hotpot!
Honestly, I was so honoured to be invited.
It was not just dinner, but we learnt so much from him.
Hotpot reviews are difficult to comment because it all depends on the broth and what they have on the menu to dunk in the pot.
The broth here was really cool, it was a whole chicken on top of a wintermelon, beneath the wintermelon there were cordecep flowers which is named similar to cordeceps but they are not cordeceps.
The broth was really good and we picked some pretty cool stuff too!
The scallops were for the hotpot, fresh and sweet, but don't put them in for too long because they will turn chewy.
Then there were beef balls which I was not keen but they were surprisingly nice, they were elastic with a strong beef taste.
Then the squid balls were impressive because it had salted egg yolk inside giving it extra flavour.
Pig's liver is my favourite but I never know when it is cooked properly, but KC showed us the signs to look for when its cooked.
Here the liver done by KC!
Yummy of course, just like the ones at Wai Kee, velvety and springy.
The FRESH fish gas bladder was a rare item, I've never seen it offered at other hotpots.
They were so fresh that they had a pearlescent pink colour.
I loved the gelatin sticky texture.
We also ordered my favourite beehive tofu which was very porous and absorbs lots of broth without over powering the strong soybean taste.
There were two types of dumplings: pork and foie gras.
I was not keen on the pork because it had pieces of fat in it but its meant to be normal.
The foie gras one fared better because it had pieces of water chestnut in it which gave it a sweet tone.
Most people have probably burnt their tongues by the end because hotpot food is hot, so I was glad they had icecream sandwiches to sooth the tongue.

Happy dining at Namkee hAppy

As soon as I read the reviews I decided to go but as it was just opened I went at the wrong time so it was closed.
I loved the decor and the chalk writings.
0 讚好
Most importantly, I loved their emphasis on the h, h for happy and h for healthy.
I used to go their other Namkee H branch down the road but since it was relocated I did not know about this branch until I read Ivy's review.
This was one of the tastings I really liked because there were a lot of vegetarian food, I am not a vegetarian but I love to share it with other vegetarians because there are not many healthy vegetarian options around.
At the back of the menu, there is a page with all the different toppings you can choose for the noodles, a great majority are vegetarian!
0 讚好
The great thing about Namkee H are the choice of noodles, you are not limited to choosing thick rice noodles (maie-seen). They have soba and Cambodian noodles to choose from .
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vegetarian curry fish balls:
0 讚好
You can't really taste the difference but there are some tell tale signs that they are vegetarian because they have this unique sweetness and unique texture which is similar to konjac.
Other than that, these vegetarian fishballs are gorgeous in a mildly spicy curry sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Marinated chicken wings with stuffed fresh orange meat:
0 讚好
I loved these chicken wings, they were so refreshing and creative.
Normally they are stuffed with minced pork which I do not really like.
Oranges are so much fun and juicy when you eat them!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Platter - Deep fried tofu balls with parsley and Deep fried chinese yam with goji berry:
0 讚好
The tofu balls were my favourite and I used to order them at their other branch.
It will filled with mashed tofu that had a strong tofu taste flavoured with pieces of parsley.
As for the Chinese yam croquette, it was lighter in taste with some crunchy texture, but I preferred the tofu croquette.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Porcini mushroom dumplings with asparagus and noodles:
0 讚好
This was a light bowl of noodles and the soup was clear and sweet.
There were three filling dumplings which had fragrant earthy porcini mushrooms and vegetarian meat which had a woody rich taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Laksa:
0 讚好
The Laksa was quite spicy but I loved the egg because the size of the egg was not too big yet the yolk was relatively big.
I loved the vegetarian prawns.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vietnamese Pho:
0 讚好
Simple vegetarian Vietnamese noodles that will not disappoint because it has Vegetarian Vietnamese sausage which tastes just like the meat version.
There were also sweet Chinese radishes too and the broth was heavily flavoured with basil.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tomato soup:
0 讚好
The appearance of this was similar to the Vietnamese one but it was beef broth with lemongrass with a piece of pork chop and Cambodian noodles.
The broth had a heavy lemongrass taste and because of the pork chop, it was really similar to the noodles you get in Vietnamese joints.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry ginger smoothie:
Ginger root, strawberry, banana and orange juice.
A refreshing drink because strawberry and orange pair together well complimented with a gentle kick of ginger.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tropical breeze:
Blended with pineapple, coconut milk and banana.
It reminds me of pina colada and the pineapple gives it a tangy taste so that the banana is not so heavy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I can't wait to come back because this shop is conveniently located near the escalators!

[Review 3174] At the races with delicious English brunch @ 喜馬當先 Hay Market

喜馬當先 Hay Market

2/F, Grandstand II, Sha Tin Racecourse, Sha Tin

I love the new Hay Market at Shatin racecourse.
It is decorated with a rustic British feeling that transports you back to the old days.
There is a dress code hence everyone that is admitted is respectably dressed up.
At the centre, there is a grand bar with a huge chandelier on top.
Guests can enjoy an English style brunch with a buffet starter bar, omelette station and dessert station.
Refreshing lime, pineapple and chili juice.
Omelette from the omelette station where you can choose the fillings.
Fried beignets filled with chocolate paired with refreshing mango sauce.
For the mains, there is a good selection from steaks, fish and quiche all served with English tea.
I tried the duck sausages which was surprisingly meaty and heavy paired with fluffy pancakes beneath.
At the Hay Market, there is a lovely balcony which gives clear access to the racecourse.
