Found out about this new burger called the RED PERI SCORCHER from the paper.
Only noticed it because of the colourful stars which is quite similar to my openrice logo.
Initially I was not going to try it because it was probably not worth trying as McDonald's PR does not recommend their products to me.

But anyway, after a group buy scam at Dessert Kitchen, I stumbled accross this branch of McDonalds which is totally different and cute so decided to try the new burger as well.

The red peri scorcher burger is NEW in HONG KONG but has already been launched in Singapore and Australia last year.

HONG KONG only takes chances on successful ideas and products because they are scared of new ideas and the effort required in branding new products.
I liked the solitary cubicles and seats by the wall that have a comfortable leg rest too and an upside down plastic plant dangling from above.

RED PERI SCORCHER:

Made with Carolina Reaper chilis, habanero chilis, Naga Jolokia chilis and Peri Peri chilis.
The world's hottest chilis guarenteed to be a scorching sensation.

I really liked it because it was crispy marinated chicken thigh meat with cracker wheat and the sauce was spicy with a strong hint of lemon.
It had a really nice cajun smell just like the coating you find in Southern fried chicken.
The chili was fiery but it does not linger which is why I like African chilis.

[Review 3213] Hooked on the fish and pies @ Hooked

Saw this newly listed shop called HOOKED so googled it and found out it was a Chippy so decided to check it out.
I didn't really have any expectations because it was opened by Kiwi's and I am British.
Previously tried Seasalt and Fish & Chick which were opened by Aussies.

Anyway I loved the location, it was on Caine Road near the escalators.
Brightly lit blue logo with a blue hook and sea blue decor.

This chippy joint was manned by three hunks.
The menu was simple.

It was really nice to see that they sell Pukka pies from the UK.

There was beer too.

They had pickled onions and gherkins.

It was good to see lots of battered fish ready because there were lots of customers coming and going.

They had a choice of blue cod, blue nose and hok, as well as battered mussels, oysters and scallops.
In the end, I settled for Blue nose, half a scoop of chips, and 2 potato fritters which cost $95!!
I wanted to try the curry sauce as well but it was $10 for a small tub and it was quite watery because someone before me ordered it.
I didn't have room for dessert or I would have tried the pineapple and bananas battered in cinnamon.

When it came, it was nicely wrapped in paper.

Blue nose fish:

The fish was really good, the batter was light, crisp and thinly coated yet it held the fish together.

The texture of the fish was succulent, soft and moist.
I've never tried blue nose before but it tasted like Haddock.
Potato fritters:

The potato fritters were slices of potato in batter and quite scrumptious with salt and vinegar.
Chips:
The chips were ok but not the fresh hand cut ones that you get in chippies but the taste was good because you could really taste the salt and vinegar and it was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Next time I will be back for their pies and try different salts on the chips because they have Cajun, Lemon and pepper or Garlic.

There was no queue that day so decided to dine here.
It was nearly empty in the restaurant because it was 3pm.
However we were allocated to a table for two but other pairs that came in were allocated to tables for four and they were not even fat.
Unfortunately my friend was FAT so had to squeeze in the tiny chair!

As the service was crap, I will not comment on their food so you will have to risk it yourselves.
The menu is rather confusing as well.

But I had the same experience as rebecca_red15.
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=2349328
Quoted from her review because I had the same experience:
"We were served by a new girl, who didn't ask us if we wanted our chicken to be boneless, so when we found out that boneless was an option, it was already too late. Also, according to the menu, we were supposed to be able to choose the flavour of the chips too, .................."

The pickles were crunchy and acidic, great for complimenting fried chicken.

Finally don't be shocked if you find a silkworm in your salad because in Korea its edible and on the menu costing $120
