Ferris Wheel Cake Shop
西貢西貢大街20號前座地下A室
Room A, G/F., 20 Block Front, Sai Kung Tai Street, Sai Kung
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/dreaming-on-a-ferris-wheel-e2359371
This cake shop which was opened in December last year is finally listed on OpenRice.
It is hidden in the old lanes of Sai Kung.
The shop has a nice dreamy name called FERRIS WHEEL and the logo makes you think of macarons because of the circles around it.
It also reminds me of Ferrero Rocher because of the colour!
There is a cute Ferris Wheel display.
In the middle there is a glass cabinet of cupcakes and cakes.
I ended up getting the Earl grey mousse and the chocolate cupcake.
Both were surprisingly good and I am so glad there is finally a decent cake shop in Sai Kung because the rest are local village style bakeries which I do not like.
I was really impressed with the cake box and bag too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
MR. EARL:
Earl grey mousse
The icing made the mousse cake pretty but I would have liked it without because the mousse was sweet enough.
Although the mousse looked dense and hard, it had a decent whipped texture which was airy and light.
The taste was rewarding too, it was chocolately with a strong earl grey taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate cupcake:
The cupcake surprised me as well because the texture was soft and didn't crumble.
It was not too sweet with a strong chocolate taste and it did not have that nasty buttery lard smell and taste that the local cakes have.

Reviews from supersupergirl on openrice for Hong Kong and Macau restaurants
[Review 3327] Let ur stomach bow to Bao Wow and be wowed @ Bao Wow
24/04/2014
Bao Wow
灣仔大王東街28號2號舖
Shop 2, 28 Tai Wong Street East, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/let-ur-stomach-bow-to-bao-wow-and-be-wowed-e2359158
Previously tried Little Bao which was nice but expensive.
Anyway, here comes Bao Wow which does a good variety of Baos too.
They cost $58 for two.
[Please note that this review is quite old because I dined here a long time ago]
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Photos of restaurants:
A nice contrast of white and red.
The design of the menu was rather interesting because most restaurants emphasize their logo, but here the logo is on the corner and the 28 which is the street number is much bigger!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taro fries:
A bit dry but otherwise ok.
As this review is old, the current taro fries are different.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thai Fish fillet:
Fried fish fillet, Asian slaw, homemade Thai fish sauce.
The Thai fish fillet was soft and succulent complemented by the delicious purple cabbage slaw followed by a spicy aftertaste because the sauce was quite spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pang Pang chicken:
Shredded chicken, cucumber, crushed Sichuan spicy peanuts, homemade sesame sauce.
The chicken was really tasty and I loved the Sichuan peppercorns with the refreshing cucumber and nutty sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Teriyaki Tofu (vegetarian):
Fried egg tofu, shiitake mushroom, teriyaki sauce.
This was my favourite bao even though it had egg tofu which I do not like because the pickled vegetables were tasty and the mushrooms were strong.
I was expecting myself not to like it because Teriyaki sauce is normally sweet but the combination of ingredients in this one really worked.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sesame ginger porkchop:
Fried pork chop, shredded cabbage, homemade sesame ginger sauce.
This was quite nice but more sauce was needed because the pork chop was a bit dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
So far my picks would be the fish, tofu and chicken.

[Review 3326] Wan Chai's second Swissbeck @ Swissbeck
24/04/2014
Swissbeck
灣仔皇后大道東56E號2號舖地下
G/F, Shop 2,56E Queen's Road East, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/wan-chais-second-swissbeck-e2359143
The first Swissbeck in Central has closed but there are now three branches, one in Sai Kung and two in Wan Chai.
Every time I walked past, there's was cute girl inside which you can hear from the outside asking you to come in and have a look.
Even if you didn't go in, you could hear her say "byeeeee" in a cute way.
This branch is located on the corner and it is quite small.
There were fresh Cronuts delivered that day so it was hard to take photos of the shop.
To be honest, I only like their cronuts.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Vanilla bun:
Basically it was a Chinese bun with vanilla curd in the middle.
The bun was dense and firm (the typical Chinese bread texture with egg yolk brushed on top).
Overall, the taste was ok because of the vanilla curd.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
All points go to the cute girl inside who I did not meet on this visit.

[Review 3325]Cheap but not edible @ 陽光麵包西餅 Sunny Boulangerie et Patisserie
23/04/2014
陽光麵包西餅 Sunny Boulangerie et Patisserie
佐敦彌敦道383-389C號平安大廈地下
G/F, Alhambra Building, 383-389C Nathan Road, Jordan
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/cheap-but-not-edible-e2359023
Sunny Boulangerie et Patisserie looks promising from the outside but when you go in, the cakes and breads are Chinese style.
There are other branches in Hong Kong but this is the only branch that has a cafe area serving teas and coffees.
I was attracted by the orange cream carrot cake which cost $32, when it was brought over, it was three slices!!
I thought $32 was per slice/piece as the label says because in the cabinet, it was already sliced into three slices, so per piece meaning one of those slices.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Orange cream carrot cake $32:
Anyway, the cake looked quite genuine with lots of carrots in it.
0 讚好
However it was dry and hard. God knows how long it has been in the cabinet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Numi Aged Earl Grey $13:
The organic tea was only $13 per cup. How cheap!!
Unfortunately, the cup containing hot tea gave off toxic plastic fumes which made the tea undrinkable.
I did not drink the tea
Seriously, these cups should be checked or confiscated by the health department or whatever department is responsible.

[Review 3324] For "C"od and Country @ K's British Restaurant
23/04/2014
K's British Restaurant
大嶼山梅窩熟食市場C10-C12號舖
C10 & C12, Mui Wo Cooked Food Market, Lantau Island
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/for-c-od-and-country-e2358934
Since my last visit, this place has been given a REAL British facelift it deserves!!
There's no excuse to miss it now because it's the most outstanding restaurant at the cooked food market!!
Lovely Royal Mail post box.
[Pretending to post a letter]
Fish Collection times aka Opening Times!!
Glamourous red phone box with mirrored glass panes.
A touch of royalty!
Typical UK brick walls and cloudy blue skies.
K's British Restaurant is located in Mui Wo's cooked food market which is by the sea with great seaviews depending on where you are sitting.
Shoals of fish on the sea blue wall.
This paragraph is quoted from Prestige magazine which was ABSOLUTELY spot on:
Lovers of fish and chips in Hong Kong had much to mourn about when the last purveyor of the pukka item in Town, the chippy closed a year ago or so.
Illuminated cloudy blue skies.
Overall the new look is good, but it was slightly dim for dining.
Thankfully, K's British Restaurant is here to the rescue!!!
This new STAR is going to bring tourism to Mui Wo or send expats moving there!
The traffic and accessibility is much better than Sai Kung.
Well at least I am tempted.....
THIS PLACE IS TRULY BRITISH AND THIS IS MY FOURTH VISIT!!
PLEASE CARRY ON READING IF YOUR AN EXPAT BECAUSE YOU WON'T APPRECIATE THESE PERFECT CHIPPIE CHIPS IF UR NOT ENGLISH BECAUSE THE HONGKIE STYLE CHIPS ARE BURNT!
THERE IS ALSO HEINZ KETCHUP AND MALT VINEGAR ON THE TABLES.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cod and chips:
OMG! The battered cod and chips were just OMG!
The cod was succulent and flakey with a uniform batter and the chips were sensational!
This is how a model chip should be, it was fat, with a shiny surface and when you bite into it, the inside of the chip was silky just like molten starchy lava.
Basically the texture of the starchy lava was like velvety thick cream with a slighty chewy soft chip skin.
Eating it piping hot when it is just served tastes the best, if you leave it for a while, the chips get a little bit firmer.
You could smell the gorgeous spud smell just like baked potatoes when it was just served.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pollock and chips:
Pollock is another fish similar to cod, it is used in fish fingers and fish burgers.
The fried pollock was also to die for, it was different to the cod because the texture of this fish is much softer and silkier and melts in your mouth!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tea:
Since my last visit, you can now choose between breakfast tea and Earl Grey.
The tea was served in a Chinese tea pot and the cups they used were those thick rimmed tea cups that you get in chaa chan tengs.
You will notice a difference if your used to thin rimmed cups.
Somehow they reminded me of the cups at BHS and Littlewood's cafeteria except the shape of the cup was different.
But anyway, it was British tea so it was the perfect quencher to go with fish and chips.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple pie with REAL Bird's eye custard:
I was elated to see custard on the menu.
Custard is so simple to make and I don't know why places don't have REAL custard.
Normally I have custard with pudding or on its own, but here it is served with fresh apple pie which is made by them.
It was quite nice but I prefer sour apples.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway, I am now hooked on their food and I wish they would open another branch in Central.
Ok, there is HOOKED on Caine Road, but they don't serve these chips and if the ferry was cheaper, I would be here more often!
