Tried this place before, once as a tasting and then came back as a paying customer.
This time tried the new broth and saw some improvements!!!
They now have hot water and plain tea for those who do not want to drink fizzy drinks or sweet teas.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Photos of the restaurant:
The new broth flavours:
Kumquat and chicken
{the pairing of Kumquat and chicken sounds good but I would prefer grapefruit or orange because Kumquat has a strong bitterness.}
Shaoxing wine and chicken
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Drinks and hotpot items:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The items I got for my hotpot:
Delicous lean slices of lamb.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken and shaoxing wine hotpot:
It is eaten in a similar way like those chicken pots where you eat the chicken first and add broth to the remaining sauce to make it into a hotpot broth.
After you are done with the chicken, they will put some of that thick sauce in a bowl which you can use later as a dip and they highly recommended the sauce for the glass noodles.
Anyway, I loved the chicken because it was marinated in wine which makes it tender and silky because of the yeast.
It would have been good if there was a fork because it was hard eating big pieces of slippery chicken with bone using chopsticks.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles:
There were two types of instant noodles and these were the best because the strands are thinner and it is slightly flavoured so when they become soft, it just adheres the tasty broth and the noodles become really delicious.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
What I ate:
They recommended glass vermicelli with the broth which tasted great after more sauce was added but I felt that the instant noodles tasted better.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
◎ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ◎
I definitely like this new broth which will become successful because it is similar to a non spicy version of the chicken pot.

[Review 3389] Caught by the confusing Ad @ 鮮薈海鮮吧 Freshlodge Seafood Bar & Restaurant

Walked past one evening and saw this poster!
It was rather confusing because it seems to imply all you can eat but it is not all you can eat.
As I was a fan of their crab congee I didn't mind going back again for it.
When I went in, I asked them about the confusing promotion and they said it was a GIMMICK because they are located on 127 Wing Lok Street, so they simply did a special offer for the congee at $1+27 ie the congee costs $28 only!!!
Although it was not all you can eat, $28 was a bargain because it normally costs around $5X.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab congee:
I had a better experience this time because it was served in a ceramic bowl with a proper metal spoon.
The quality was better too and you could see how much crab was in it because the colour was lovely and vivid.
Not to mention, the taste was amazing, rich in crab essence flavoured by the saltiness of the crab roe with lots of crabmeat in it.
As well as the crab, the freshness of the spring onion and the congee tasted great together.
I wish this promotion would last forever.

[Review 3387] Great Chinese food @ 羅麥記 Law Mark Kee

Hong Kong chaa chan teng food either clicks with me or it doesn't, there is no in between because either I like or I don't like it.
In this case, I found the food enjoyable because the savory dishes don't taste sweet and would come back if the location wasn't so inconvenient.
*** Must try
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Photos of the restaurant :
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Iced Pineapple:
I was surprised there was a drink that I could drink because at most cha chann tengs there are not much options for expats because it is mainly Hong Kong style milk tea and syrupy tasting drinks.
The iced pineapple was really nice because it was pineapple juice with icecubes made of frozen canned pineapples.
It was lovely and refreshing and not the usual syrupy sweet drinks you get.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken wings in Swiss sauce:
Not my favourite but these were better than other places because other places just taste sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Prawns on toast:
These were different to the ones on toast because it was minced prawns on baguette slices.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pigeon:
They were not bad but I found them difficult to eat because I find it hard dealing with meat on bones.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spicy chicken wings:
These were similar to the chicken wings above but had a really spicy tone to it.
I preferred them because the spicy tone and the sweetness tasted good together.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Flat noodles with beef:
Again, the beef was good because I loved the gravy which was not sweet and tasted like oyster sauce.
The fried noodles beneath it were not oily and had delicious pieces of egg.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bread box:
I was surprised by this because the sauce was nice and savoury.
The bread box can feed a whole table because beneath the pork chop, there was fried rice as well.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Curry bread box:
curry, potato, cheese, sauce rice and bread.
This was my favourite because I love curry with rice AND bread and it had BOTH.
It also had cheese too which was a bonus.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles tossed in spring onion ginger oil with pork chop:
The noodles were tasty with the generous spring onion and ginger oil sauce.
You can choose from pork chops or chicken wings to go with the noodles.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hainan style chicken:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hong Kong style taste with chocolate sauce:
This was the usual toast dipped in egg and pan fried.
As you can see the toast was cut into big chunky pieces!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***Hong Kong style toast with kaya spread:
This was delicious and syrup was served separate which was good.
Frankly it does not need syrup because it has delicious sweet kaya spread in the middle and it is coated with fragrant dessicated coconut.

[Review 3386] Tofu Korrito @ K-Roll

Shop 6A, G/F, Sen Fat Building, 6 Bonham Strand, Sheung Wan

I love their Korrito rolls so came back for more.
On my previous visit, ordered the beef K Roll which I did not like because it was too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tofu Korrito:
The Tofu roll was just colourful and neatly sliced.
You could see the leafy green lettuce and fresh purple cabbage with crunchy pieces of fried bits and tofu in the middle.
Each mouthful was packed with freshness of the vegetables and the sweetness of the honey sauce complemented by the tofu in the middle.
The only problem was that it was slightly messy to eat because it kept falling apart.
