For roast dinners, I normally go to Delaney's but recently roast lamb was on the menu at Canny Man, so I went there.
I started off with cabbage and bacon soup which was clear and warming because their air conditioning was quite cold.
Then came the roast lamb.
Usually it comes with mash but their chips are perfectly fried which was why I changed the mash to the chips.
The highlight had to be the vinegar mint sauce with finely chopped mint and the gravy which went deliciously with the thinly sliced juicy lamb, not to mention the perfectly golden chips which were crispy on the outside and soft inside.
It was so delicious and reminded me of the lovely roast dinners that the dinner ladies whipped up for lunch.

[Review 3445] Taiwanese delights at Shang Palace @ 香宮 Shang Palace
19/06/2014
香宮 Shang Palace
尖沙咀麼地道64號九龍香格里拉大酒店地庫1層
Lower Level, Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel, 64 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/taiwanese-delights-at-shang-palace-e2370547
From 18th to 21st June 2014 at Shang Palace, executive Sous Chefs Elvis Chen from Taipei and Max Wang from Tainan will be guest chefs to showcase their signature Taiwanese delicacies available on both the à la carte and set menus.
During the food festival, guests can opt for the special set menu featuring chefs’ recommendations or a wide variety of specialities from the à la carte menu.
Here was what we tried.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mullet roe, baby abalone, pork ear terrine.
My favourite was the mullet roe because it was thin slices of prawn patty with mullet roe in the middle.
The mullet roe has different colours according to its age.
As for the abalone, it was refreshing with the sauce and the texture was different because it was springy just like whelks.
The pork ear terrine was a bit too spicy because the Sichuan pepper oil was too strong.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried shrimp rolls:
A-li mountain longan flower honey mustard and cucumber pickles
The shrimp rolls were supposed to be wrapped in pig's skin but they used beancurd skin instead because it was healthier.
The shrimps inside the roll were extremely springy, while the beancurd skin had an amazing crunch complimented by the sweet honey sauce with a mild mustard kick.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chinese cabbage and bamboo soup with deep fried promfret fillet
The soup was nice and filling with lovely strands of beanshoots, bamboo shoots, bamboo piths and crab meat which went nicely with the crispy fried fish filets on the side.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed spotted garoupa with pineapple bean paste
This was my favourite because it was a chunky piece of delicate fish steamed in tasty pineapple bean sauce.
It was salty and appetising because the aged pineapple begins to give out a wine flavour with a refreshing kick.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Traditional three cup chicken with fresh basil, work fried with soya sauce, rice wine and sesame oil
The pieces of chicken were tender because they were not fried but cooked in a different way infused with the fragrant aroma of fresh basil.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Steamed glutinous rice with whole fresh crab
The steamed crab is served during celebrations in Taiwan, for newborns where they put an egg or a piece of chicken according to the gender of the child.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taiwanese beef noodle soup
The beef was soft and gelatinous but I found the soup too sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taichung pineapple cake with mango icecream and longan flower honey
Finished off with a lovely dessert.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taiwan oolong tea
To end the meal, we had oolong tea which was lovely and strong and helped digestion.

[Review 3444] A fresh scene at Papillon Caffe @ Papillon Caffe
19/06/2014
Papillon Caffe
灣仔皇后大道東183號合和中心17樓1701-1705號舖
Shop 1701-1705, 17/F., Hopewell Centre, 183 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/a-fresh-scene-at-papillon-caffe-e2370545
I was really glad I went to the opening of Papillon Café because I got to try some really delicious things, however I had to leave early because of another tasting.
Papillon Caffe is located on the 17th floor of the Hopewell Centre and because I have not been above the 3rd floor, I assumed it would be offices above that.
When the elevator arrived on the 17th floor, I was greeted with shops and Papillon Cafe was near the entrance which leads to Kennedy Road.
On the menu, there were brunches and lots of European treats so I am definitely coming back for couscous and other items.
The muesli I had was amazing because it was not too sweet with crispy pieces of apple and refreshing bits of orange in it. I wouldn't mind having a whole bowl to myself
I then tried the soft oat cookies which had my favourite green sweet sultanas in it that gave it a lovely chewy texture and a hint of sweetness.
Lastly, I finished off with a satisfying cup of tea by Teapigs!!!!
There are so many flavours of tea to choose from!!
Coming back soon!!!

[Review 3443] Delicious afternoon quiche tea set @ Odelice!

Shop 9, G/F, 2 Landale Street, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/delicious-afternoon-quiche-tea-set-e2370239
O delice! is a relatively new French joint in town serving crepes and waffles.
They are always busy which means their food is good.
I managed to get there during Tea Time so I tried their Bacon and Mushroom quiche which is new.
They had crepes as an option for tea too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bacon and mushroom quiche:
I was super glad I chose the quiche because it was REALLY cheesy, I liked the browned cheese surface on top which was really nice and there was more cheese in the quiche filling as well.
The quiche pastry was also cheesy.
Normally I don't like bacon quiches but the bacon pieces were lean and meaty which was delicious with the eggy cheese filling in the quiche.
The salad on the side was also good because of the refreshing balsamic dressing that was not sweet like other places.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl Grey:
The tea they served was Twinning's Earl Grey tea.

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/meaty-diet-sub-with-glaceau-vitaminwater-e2370195
Tried this $42 combo set which consists of a SUBWAY Club™ and a bottle of GLACÉAU vitaminwater at SUBWAY. (Normally it would cost HK$57.8).
According to Subway, the SUBWAY Club™ is low-fat and low-calorie containing only 6-grams of fat.
Subway has met the nutritional criteria set forth by the American Heart Association's Heart-Check Meal Certification Program.
For drinks, there are quite a few flavours.
Glacéau vitaminwater is from New York, sold in major cities including London, Paris, Tokyo, Seoul. It is enhanced with nutrients without artificial flavourings.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
SUBWAY Club™:
I liked combination of ham, beef and turkey because it was filling, and all the meats were lean.
I had a simple sub, so I just opted for tomatoes and olives with ranch sauce.
The sub was simple and delicious with the juicy tomato slices and meats.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
xxx: blueberry pomegranate:
The drink was light and not too sweet so next time I will try other flavours.

[Review 3441] Arji bahji green monday @ Beef & Liberty
16/06/2014
Beef & Liberty
灣仔永豐街23號2樓
2/F, 23 Wing Fung Street, Wan Chai
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/arji-bahji-green-monday-e2370011
Found out from their FB about this new burger with a British Indian touch.
The burger is influenced by Bhaji veggie fritters, hence the Argy Bhaji.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Argy Bhaji:
The fritter was crazily delicious and light with shallots, jalepeno, and chickpea flour.
It had a lovely kick with indian spices served with mango chutney, mint and coriander yoghurt and beetroot slaw.
The beetroot slaw was good but I wish there was more though.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Overall, I love their vegetarian burgers and I will have to try the chicken as well.

[Review 3440] Second visit to InnoVeggie @ 綠色素食分子 InnoVeggie
16/06/2014
綠色素食分子 InnoVeggie
北角堡壘街2-4號地下
G/F., 2-4 Fort Street, North Point
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/second-visit-to-innoveggie-e2370010
Went to InnoVeggie again because I believe the food is good but on my last visit there were a few teething problems because they just opened.
The Thai style mince was served differently, it was presented in a set with soup, salad and rice.
It tasted so much nicer because it was not so salty and the sweetcorn soup was lovely because it was creamy and tasty.
The vegetarian sausages were interesting too but it needed more asparagus though.
When I nearly finished my meal, the owner came over and asked how the meal was so I just gave her my opinions on the tea which turns out you can actually choose your teas.
Got to try some papaya soymilk which was soothing and cooling and some icecream from Labmade.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Definitely going again and hope the operations will be smoother on my next visit.
