HIVE is a great place for hotpots and most of the diners are office people because the environment is chic and classy.

We started off with a pork lung broth which was surprisingly quite good because the broth had a rich almond taste which made it nice and creamy.
The pork lung broth would be a good choice if your looking for something milky but fed up with the soymilk broth.

Before we started, we had a fresh sashimi platter.

Then there were these delicious squid rolls wrapped in seaweed which can just be eaten without putting it in the hotpot.
The hotpot items were fresh and presented nicely.

My favourite was the squid patty with a sweet purple potato base.

The chunky sweet potato takes a while to cook, so be patient.
As well as that, we had deep fried eel in batter which was delicious because the eel was delicate and crispy in light batter.

For dessert, it was a surprise because they gave you truffle as well which was silky with an appropriate bitter aftertaste.

[Review 3687] New Kid on the block @ Cali-Mex

Mr Taco Truck which used to be in Quarry Bay is now in Central and now there is Cali-Mex.
There are three branches of Cali-Mex, the first one opened in Central, followed by Wan Chai and now the third branch at Quarry Bay.
The other two are dine ins, but this one is takeaway only.

Previously tried the Central branch and I loved it.

Had the burrito which was loaded with delicious beans, rice and all that.
Definitely a good choice compared to the other local expensive crap around the area.
Another great option along with Enoteca, News Room and the other Western dos!~

Anyway, as I love Central, I shall be eating at that branch more often!

As I have tried their Tin Hau branch, I decided to check this branch out too.
The menu is more extensive but most of the stuff is sold out during peak hours

Menu:

Tofu and rice:

The food was definitely healthy because it was completely tasteless if you compare it to this other vegetarian branch in Central.

As we as being tasteless the food was cold.

[Review 3685] Private vegetarian fine dining @ Maya Cafe Mediterranean Lifestyle

There are not many places that offer private Western vegetarian fine dining so this is probably the first where you can experience gourmet raw food for up to 12 guests at Modus Vivendi.

The food served is organic, vegan and raw ingredients from France, Italy and local markets in Hong Kong which is brought to you by Maya Cafe.

Each private dinner will be different, usually evolving around a country or regional theme creating fusions of traditional dishes or reinventing dishes.

The theme that I had was Summer in Tuscany.

It cost's $880 with pink prosecco wine or $680 with non alcoholic drinks.

There is a cocktail reception with finger food and raw canapes of:
-Rosemary cups with vegan aioli and sundried tomatos
-mini peppers with carrot tagbouli and basil
-almond and black pepper cups with black olive tapenade and pesto
-sundried tomato dip with veggie sticks

mini peppers with carrot tagbouli and basil
-almond and black pepper cups with black olive tapenade and pesto
-sundried tomato dip with veggie sticks

After devouring the canapes, we were led into this beautiful dining setting located in Modus Viviendi`s boutique.

We started off with a refreshing ganzpacho which was tomato in three ways.
Fresh tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, olive oil and black pepper on a bed of crunchy yellow and black tomato surrounded by pool of rich red tomato soup with rosemary n basil.
I definitely enjoyed a cooling ganzpacho to start with thee strongest tomato taste you could ever taste

Then we has lasagne which was made of delicate layers of yellow zucchini filled with luscious tomato sauce and basil pesto with pecan, wilted baby spinach and cashew nut cheese.
The yellow zucchini was sweet and crisp with zesty tomato sauce in the middle

It was then followed by a cheese platter made with nuts.

Tree nuts cheese platter:
-macadamia truffle white cheese
-cashew goats cheese with rosemary
-smoked sunflower cheddar cheese
-fresh cashew cheese with black pepper

It was mind blowing how good these cheeses could taste, especially the cream cheese and cheddar.
All the cheeses were made with probiotics which helps to turn it into cheese when it is added to the grounded nuts.

For dessert, we had a colourful plate with forest berries, dark chocolate tart and lavender icecream.
The icecream was really interesting, it was light with an extremely viscous texture just like whipped egg white at a freezing temperature.

[Review 3684] Seafood at Tuen Mun's seafood street @ 泰海鮮 Seafood Thai

When it comes to seafood, Sai Kung springs into mind but there are actually lots of other places that have great seafood such as Tuen Mun and Lei Yue Mun.
This time we ventured into Tuen Mun's Seafood Thai 泰海鮮.

Here is the latest episode of 食得招積 that was filmed there and what we tried.
++++++++++++++++
青山灣芝士焗龍蝦。
Baked Castle peak bay lobster with cheese
The lobster was fantastic because there was a fragrant cheese smell when it was served and the surface was golden and crispy.
It was a gorgeous layer of cheese on top with meaty lobster beneath it, the cheese was divine because the texture was firm but not gooey which made it appetizing without being too heavy.
+++++++++++++
避風塘炒蟹
Typhoon shelter crab

Next we had the Typhoon shelter which is a signiature dish in most seafood restaurants.
The crab was fresh infused with delicious fried garlic and chili flavour, whilst the crispy pieces of garlic complemented the crabmeat nicely.

白酒忌廉煮花甲
Clams cooked in creamy wine sauce

The clams were cooked in a delicious cream and white wine sauce which was Chinese and Vietnamese fusion with herbs and onions.
Each clam was fully flavoured and creamy balanced by the sweet onions and herbs.

[Review 3683] Random visit @ 甄記廚房 Home's Kitchen

甄記廚房 Home's Kitchen
此店已改名為 25餐廳
鰂魚涌海堤街18號D1地舖

Came here because it was empty.

According to the menu, there are two dishes which are exactly the same as Hung don don, after asking the staff, they said the Chef used to work there.
Perhaps Quarry Bay is a place full of competition as there are more people to restaurants ratio hence the same dishes everywhere.

For me I prefer variety.

Anyway, I could not find this shop listed on openrice because on the menu it says "Home" but it is listed as Home's kitchen.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Instant noodles with cheese sauce with fried chicken leg and egg:
When it arrived, it looked like the chicken had been in an explosion with the skin blasted and ripped exposing the flesh!!!!!
The fried egg was rubbery and the cheese sauce was not cheese sauce, it was just a milky sauce with salt added which is how the Chinese perceive cheese.

Lemon and duck soup:

It was the first time I came across soup boiled with a combination of lemon and duck, but I knew I was going to like it because I love lemons.
It had a lovely light taste of duck with hints of lemon and the soup was not at all oily.

The pigeons looked twisted and extorted in a weird way but inside it was stuffed with glutinous rice which was tasty.
