I rarely eat Chinese desserts because all the choices revolve around mango, red beans and they are 9 times out of 10 too sweet.

On this visit to Sweetheart Dessert, I was surprised to see mangosteen in one of the desserts but I didn't try it because it probably has seeds in it.

Anyway, tried the apple puree which was surprisingly nice but a bit too sweet and the fruits in the dessert such as watermelon didn't go well with the taste.

This place is famous for rice rolls so decided to try it.
On my way there, I could smell it a mile away because the oil smell was sickening and the meat didn't smell fresh.

Since I was already there, I decided to try it.
The rice rolls are made at the front of the shop with the rice roll mixture stored in the red bucket.
There was a dine in area too.

They open at 6 in the morning which is pretty early, but then the elderly people in Sai Kung normally get up at 5am!!

Rice rolls with chives and dried shrimp:

Basically I found them too soft.
The taste was ok but it wasn't delicious that I had to make a special trip into SK for them.
It was slightly different to the rice rolls in the city because it had sesame and pork bits in the rice rolls as well.

Pause for some Italian food at PAUSA

PAUSA means Pause in Italian so that was exactly what I did.

I paused here for lunch!!!!!

Previously, this used to be Beautifood but sadly it packed up.

Anyway, it is now an Italian joint selling pizzas, foccacias and pastas.

Tomato and basil pizza slice:

I really liked the pizza because the base was soft and the cheese was not burnt with lots of tomato puree on it.

It would be great of the basil taste was stronger.

Fontina cheese and ham foccacia:

The ham and cheese in the foccacia were wonderful but the ciabatta was a bit hard.

The chocolate was strong but the texture was a little powdery.

Although The Shortbread Company has closed down, there is Shortbread Teas in Central which is owned by the same people serving quiches, breakfasts, scrumptious scones, cakes and an endless selection of teas.

Expats and BBC's will be delighted by this tea room.

Anyway, if you still miss The Shortbread Company, you can get a free cup and saucer at the new place in Central from now until the 14th october while stocks last.

Shortbread Teas is on 55 Wellington Street, which is round the corner from The Chippy which has closed down.

No strings attached!!! I have already nabbed a big cup and a small cup.
There are three sizes: big, medium and small.

As usual, I had the back bacon sarnie with some mushrooms, the bacon was salty but not too salty and the bacon was tender with the fat trimmed off.

More teapots and teaware inside the new place!!

This vegetarian shop has been here for years so I was surprised there were no reviews on this place.
I was feeling peckish and decided to get the vegetarian eel roll which costs $20

Vegetarian eel rolls:
It was nice of them to slice them for me.
As with all Chinese style vegetarian snacks, they are quite oily, but the taste was quite good because the rolled beancurd got its flavour from the seaweed and there was a hint of MSG.

This joint on the corner stood out because it was bright yellow and the name looked a bit like Fxxk Ku pronounced in a foreign way!!

I settled for the chicken satay which cost $8.

As well as chicken satays, there are other things to eat.
It was scary seeing her grill it because the kitchen was tiny and the tiny griller was right beneath the sink!!!!

Chicken satay:

The taste of this was amazing, it was as good as the satay place in Shau kei wan, the chicken was tender with a gorgeous smoky flavour, and there was a strong sweet peanut flavouring.

This joint used to be some Italian do, but not anymore.
Seemingly Japanese, it is called Red Penguin which doesn't sound quite Japanese which was how I noticed it.

Upon entering, there were fried snacks in the glass cabinet.
I only wanted to try the potatoes which cost $10 for 4 pieces.

There are a choice of three sauces and I opted for the tomato because that one seemed to go well with fried potatoes.

Fried potatoes:

The potatoes were nice and crispy. They had an extra coating of starch which made them extra crispy.
I had no expectation for the tomato sauce because the colour was not the usual red colour but the taste actually made the potatoes taste divine because it had a vinegary taste with a hint of tomato.
