Since my last visit, there are so many new dishes ranging from Italian, Thai to Chinese!!!!!

Here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Innoveggie salad $68:
To start off with, we had a refreshing salad.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Toast with beancurd and cheese $48:
This was delicious toast with soft and supple tofu topped with grilled cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab croquettes $48:

The croquettes were wrapped in crispy noodle strands, in the middle they were filled with mash.
They came with a sweet mushroom sauce but they were good with or without the sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Japanese pancake $38:

This was like eating a Chinese radish cake because it was loaded with julienne radish and vegetables.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Innoveggie pizza $98:

The pizza was amazing because there was fermented beancurd spread as well as cheese which gave it a stronger taste.
The pizza base was thin like a cracker.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Innoveggie assorted cold dishes $98:

The platter had red cabbage salad with sesame, cold beancurd with sesame dressing, preserved duck egg and ginger, FuQiPeiPian, Marinated dried bean curd.
My favourite was the red cabbage which was dressed in citrus juices and the cold beancurd was good too because it had soyabrean taste and not the tasteless silky beancurd that comes from the packet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mashed potato with truffle $38:

The potato mash was a nice filler, flavoured with the lovely truffle paste on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
spinach lasagne $88:

The lasagne was my favourite, a decent portion filled with so much spinach and sliced mushrooms.

A tasty and filling dish!!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chinese cabbage in soymilk broth $39:

This was also my favourite because it was SIMPLE and DELICIOUS, the Chinese cabbage was fresh and sweet drenched in nourishing savoury soymilk which I drank after finishing the vegetables.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crispy fried soymilk $45:

Finally a vegetarian version of fried milk~!
It was crispy filled with delicious sweet soymilk curd in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Barley soymilk:

The barley soymilk was really relaxing because it tasted like muesli and the sweetness was just right.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
dessert platter $88:

The dessert platter had Cassava with coconut puree, apple crumble, pandan pudding.
My favourite was the cassava because it had a nice starchy hard texture.
For apple crumble and icecream lovers, I suggest ordering a Icecream from LabMade to go with it!!

[Review 3582] Singaporean tea time @ Cedele

19/11/2014
Cedele

Shop 1026, 1/F, Elements, 1 Austin Road West, Tsim Sha Tsui
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/singaporean-tea-time-e2406262

Previously tried Cedele in Sheung Wan which offers pastas, burgers, sandwiches and cakes.
The branch at Elements is slightly different because it is more casual and laid back.
They offer sandwiches:

Drinks:

Hot options:

Salads:
There is a self service bread corner with olive oil and basalmic vinegar.
(They have paper bags for people who are not dining there).

Here was what I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Shroom flatbread:

Tried the shroom flatbread which was filled with cheese, mushrooms, lettuce and peppers.
It was nice and light for lunch.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork belly and salad:

The pork belly was not crisp enough but the pickled cabbage that came with it was really nice.
You also get to choose two salads so I chose potato salad and the tofu beans salads.
For the tofu beans salad there was only one piece of tofu on the plate.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom soup:

The mushroom soup was creamy and earthy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple and pumpkin soup:

The apple and pumpkin soup was really nice because the apple was quite strong and refreshing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Portobello mushroom quiche:

The quiche was delicious because there were lots of pieces of mushrooms in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate berry cheesecake:

The berry cheesecake was balanced nicely with chocolate cake in the middle which made it less heavy.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pandan cake:
natural pandan sponge cake sandwiched between own made egg custard, pandan frosting finished with fragrant coconut shreds. Unrefined sugar and grapeseed oil used.

The pandan cake was really fancy which makes it different to the chiffon ones because it had a lovely strong taste and smell of pandan.
In the middle the kaya paste and the coconut shreds topping on top made it more coconutty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pandan woopie:

The pandan woopie was also gorgeous, it was dense pandan cake sandwiched with kaya paste in the middle.

Saw a new branch of Yamazaki where Maxim's used to be.
I got the strawberry cake because it looked delicious with strawberry jelly and lots of strawberries.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The Strawberry:

The cream on the side was a bit much so I didn't eat it, but the cake was quite nice because there were so much strawberries which went well with the soft cake and cream.
However the strawberry jelly was a bit too sweet.

I can never finish the standard tortoise jellies because the portions are too big.

At Hui Lau Shan, they sell mini cups which are only $10, the one I got had Lingzhi so it cost $1 more at $11

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tortoise and lingzhi jelly:

The jelly was bitter but it wasn't extremely bitter that you needed syrup, however I gave in the end and put some syrup in because I didn't like that medicinal taste.

[Review 3849] Dinner delights at Loong Toh Yue @ 隆濤院 Loong Toh Yuen

18/11/2014

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/dinner-delights-at-loong-toh-yuen-e2406034

Loong Toh Yuen is a lovely Chinese restaurant located in the heart of 1881 Heritage by the courtyard.
Inside, there is nice oriental decor which expats would love.
At the moment, they are doing special Hairy crab dishes as well as their regular menu.

We had some chef signature dishes and some hairy crab dishes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tossed green bamboo and black fungus with hairy crab roe $98:
We started off with this dish which tasted great with or without vinegar and the green bamboos were incredibly crispy and juicy. The black fungus and green bamboo were heavily flavoured with a delicious sesame oil taste which was then tastier with the crab roe.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roasted peking duck served with chinese pancake $438:
I love duck with pancakes but in Hong Kong they eat them differently because they just serve the skin.
At this place, the duck skin was divine because it was crispy and there was not much fat on it which made it sensational with pancakes, cucumber and the sauce which is the key to a perfect pancake.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried egg white with black truffle and hairy crab roe:

The egg white had a nice chunky coarse texture which mimicked the crab meat nicely while the hairy crab roe and black truffle complemented it nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pan fried spare ribs with strawberry and champagne sauce $198:

As they always say Champagne and strawberries!!!
Here it was spare ribs in champagne and strawberry sauce which was really luxurious and a nice treat for people who don't drink champagne.
Apart from spareribs, their champagne prawn dumplings are also famous.
I am not good with eating Chinese spareribs because they are cut differently, neverless the sauce was beautiful and dreamy with the champagne flavour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried homemade noodles with wild mushroom and spicy minced pork $168:

When the noodles came, I thought they were stir fried flat rice noodles because each strand was perfectly uniform and did not look like they were sliced with a knife.
Anyway, I really liked it because it was tasty with earthy mushrooms and a hint of spiciness from the pieces of pork.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried rice with vegetables wrapped with Lotus leaf $148:

The fried rice was vegetarian which suitable for vegetarians.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweetened almond soup with glutinous rice dumplings $48:

After the mains we had almond soup which was creamy with a strong nutty almond taste.
There put bamboo piths in it which had a texture strikingly similar to birds nest.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chinese petit fours:

Ended dinner with cashew pastries and chrysanthemum jellies.

My previous review was really positive but when I submitted it I accidentally gave it an OK instead of a

Anyway, I tried to change the rating but the system wouldn't let me hence I am submitting another review on some chocolate I bought the other day.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Orange millions:

The chocolate had a nice orange smell and it had pieces of crisp and chewy orange flavoured pieces in it which tasted delicious with the milk chocolate.
It tasted great after I put the chocolate in the freezer because the pieces became chewier.

[Review 3847] Lovely syringe gimmick @ ICE POP Nitrogen Ice-cream 分子雪糕專門店

16/11/2014
ICE POP 分子雪糕專門店 (已結業)
ICE POP Nitrogen Ice-cream

Shop B, 9-11 Pennington Street, Causeway Bay
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/lovely-syringe-gimmick-e2405283

Honestly I came here because of the syringe!!!!

Oddies Foodies is also doing a dessert served with a syringe but the queue is endless which is why I came here.

The idea of using syringes as a gimmick would be absurb to the older Chinese generation because the Chinese culture is very superstitious about hospitals and anything related to it.
They try to avoid the taboo if it can be avoided.
Sometimes, when people talk about a morbid subject, they will mutter something like "choi" [o彩過你把口] or ask them to spit it out and say it again because they fear it will bring them harm or illness.

Things have now changed and the younger generation are more open to ideas and things like plastic pills which are commonly used in designs and decorations.

Anyway, lets talk about the really cool dessert.

I ordered the apple crumble which came with a syringe filled is jam!!

The icecream was really smooth and milky, the taste was bland but very buttery, after adding the jam and eating it with the crumbs and pieces of apple, it was really nice because all the tastes went together and the sweetness was just right.
I loved the pieces of apple because they were crisp with a hint of cinnamon.
I was expecting an ordinary syringe (possibly a novelty one) but it was a real medical one by a reputable brand called Terumo.
The syringes that they use for the dessert are sterile and come in sealed packs which indicate one time use only because in the medical world they must be disposed safely after use to prevent needlestick injuries and contamination.

Terumo is a Japanese medical equipment company which specializes in Intravenous catheters, Infusion sets, Artificial heart and lungs, Blood glucose and blood pressure monitoring systems, Blood transfusion-related products, Oncology safety products, Peripheral stents and Oxygenators.

So if you are a Medical professional, you should know about these Medical directories called Medi-Bank Drug and Equipment found in hospitals and clinics for looking up dosage information, medicines, pharmaceutical companies and medical equipment.
[Apart from Medi-Bank, there are other publications available such as the BNF and MIMs for medicinal information but personally I find Medi-Bank easier to use because of the colourful tab sections.]
