My handsome French friend wanted some French food so went here!
It has been a while since I have dined here and the menu choices have grown from just galettes and crepes to pastas and salads which are great for lunches, brunches and dinners.
They had tartines which are a great light snack to go with drinks in the evening but I had my eyes on the toast with guacamole and smoked salmon.

Portobello and mixed mushroom pasta:
This was divine because it had a healthy poached egg with a runny centre and my favourite portobello mushroom.
The pasta was gorgeous because it was tossed in truffle oil and the portobello mushroom was earthy and substantial.
3 讚好
I burst the egg yolk to make the pasta even tastier and the yolk and mushrooms tasted heavenly together.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pineapple, apple and cucumber juice:
I ordered this with the brunch set because it was healthy and freshly blended.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Breakfast tea by teapigs:
2 讚好
To finish off I ordered tea from the a la carte menu.
2 讚好
The a la carte size cup is bigger and you get a pot of French honey to put in the tea which balances the bitterness of the tea leaves.

Anyway had a great brunch!
Au revoir ML!!

[Review 4019] Great new eatery @ Mustard Cafe and Bar
17/01/2015
Mustard Cafe and Bar
大坑京街12號地舖
G/F, 12 King Street, Tai Hang
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/great-new-eatery-e2418497
Spotted this new bar opposite Labmade because it was painted Mustard yellow and stood out.
Initially I thought it was just a bar but they had food as well.
The items on the menu were diverse and not what you would expect in a small joint.
To be honest I was captivated by the Spanish red prawn and the French whole spring chicken.
There were so many expats dining there so I knew the food was going to be good.
Here was my gourmet dinner!!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tea:
Started off with tea which was promising because they served it correctly with milk and sugar.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Padron pepper, sherry and almonds:
1 讚好
The Padron peppers were grilled with Sherry and topped with crunchy almond slices.
I was surprised that such a simple starter would start my appetite going because the sauce was sweet and slightly sour like sweet Balsamic vinegar.
The padron peppers are not spicy and taste a bit like green peppers but better because it was smaller and softer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spanish red prawn:
I had to have this because not many places serve just red prawn on its own.
Here they serve you a WHOLE one with the head on a bed of crispy rice vermicelli.
The crispy rice vermicelli is decorative as well as functional because it absorbs the prawn's head matter so that you can appreciate every bit of the prawn.
2 讚好
Although the prawn head matter was the best part, the prawn was amazing because it was cooked lightly so that the texture was like prawn sashimi.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
French whole spring chicken:
Next I had the chicken which I thought was going to be a spring chicken served on a plate but it was served on dried grass surrounded with Apple cider wood smoke.
2 讚好
When they bring it over, they will lift the glass lid and the smoke is released.
Unfortunately the smoke escapes a bit too fast to take a picture.
1 讚好
After they show you, they will take it back to the kitchen and slice it.
I started off with the white meat and it was soft and supple, between the chicken and the skin, there is a layer of Thyme and stuffing.
2 讚好
The chicken skin is so crispy and tasty because it has been rubbed with herbs and butter before it was roasted and when they serve it they will pour some more truffle oil on top to make it more aromatic.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Icecream:
To finish off I had icecream and there were so many flavours that I ended having two!!
They had flavours like: pistachio, nougat, orange, dark chocolate, chestnut and cherry.
I had the chestnut and cherry because you don't often come accross icecream in these flavours.
The chestnut was so nice, it wasn't too sweet and it had lovely pieces of chestnut in it that gave the icecream a lovely mouthfeel.
As for the cherry it was sweeter but I loved it because it was natrual.
2 讚好
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway, I can't wait to come back again but the menu will be different because the Chef does not have a fixed menu.
He simply sources what he thinks is fit and serves it in a yummy scrummy way!!

[Review 4018] Juiced up and healthy @ 果樹園 Fruit Tree Garden

A while ago I spotted this juice joint because of the pomegranite juice so I made a mental note to come back.
0 讚好
I was having dinner nearby so I went there and they were just about to close but luckily I managed to get some juices.
0 讚好
It was really hard deciding which juice to get but since I couldn't decide I ended up getting three drinks because I am so busy that it will be a while when I will be in Central again.
0 讚好
Each menu was handwritten on a colourful sheet of paper with perfect colour sense of contrasting colours.
There were five main fruit bases:
Kiwi, blueberry, avocado, fig and pomegranate.

For the pomegranate juice they have three different types: Sweet, Sour and Snow white which come from Japan.

Here were the three drinks that I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Avocado yoghurt shake $30:
0 讚好
I had to order this because not many places serve avocado drinks except Indonesian joint but the version they do is really sweet and here you have more avocado drink choices such as yoghurt or fruit juice that are blended in it.
I love avocado so I went for the yoghurt shake so it was pure avocado and yoghurt and it tasted amazing because it was thick and creamy with a strong avocado taste that was not too sweet.
It is interesting that the yoghurt is garnished with two slices of lemon on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fig smoothie $38:
0 讚好
This was another drink I fell for because they use FRESH FIGS to blend this drink which means you get the natural fig taste.
I was impressed because it wasn't watery and there were a good amount of figs that you can truly taste the fig and the hint of grassyness of the fig skin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sour pomegranate juice $43:
I was warned that the sour pomegranate would be very sour and indeed it was, the taste was acidic just like lemon but there was a sweet aftertaste.
They also have a blend of sweet and sour pomegranate and the snow white pomegranate juice which I shall try next time.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
I am definitely coming back again but it will be hard choosing a drink so I will probably just order them all!~!!!

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/great-place-for-gatherings-e2418130
Went here for a gathering on a Sunday and there was virtually no one so we had the restaurants to ourselves.
At Tamarind, they serve Thai food and Indian food.
Started off with prawn crackers and poppadoms.
Indian food always taste good and my favourite was the Tandoori chicken because it had a lovely chargrilled taste while the chicken was tender.
The saag paneer was too spicy and it was the spiciest saag paneer compared to other restaurants I have tried but the aloo gobi was the best I have tried.

旺角廣華街8號地下

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/this-sichuan-joint-has-potential-e2417923
The photos here looked promising so decided to try it out.
After browsing the menu there were quite a few items I wanted to order and the prices were reasonable because of it's location.
Ordered the bean noodles in chili oil and the Chengdu dan dan noodles.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
bean noodles in chili oil:
These bean noodles (Liangfen) were slightly off-white in colour, translucent and thick made with mung bean starch which have a jelly like texture.
They were in quite a lot of spicy hot chili hot oil which had vinegar in it to make it more appetizing.
Unfortunately, I found them too spicy but they were as good as the ones I had at the Mandarin Oriental.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chengdu dan dan noodles:
The noodles were flat and white which are better than those soft round ones.
I was told to mix the noodles and sauce quickly.
The dan dan sauce was different because there were no peanuts in the sauce but there were some black bits which were quite salty and gave it a nice flavour but again too spicy.
The noodles had an interesting bean taste which reminded me of Wei Lih jah jan mien instant noodles that have a sachet of chili and black bean paste found in UK's Oriental supermarkets in UK.
