Had a pre-Chinese new year gathering at Fu Ho Restaurant.
To be honest I have not been there before but the menu looked really good and apparently it is famous for abalones.
Here was what we had

Started off with the four surprises: Prawn stuffed with mashed taro, Deep-fried white-bait fish with Spicy Salt, sliced stomach in black bean sauce, Pan-fried squid with Shrimp Paste.
The prawns stuffed with taro reminded me of taro puffs but the taro mash was quite dense and rich.

The crispy whitebait was flawless, they had a delicate light crispy batter while the whitebait was silky and soft in the middle.

Next we had the squid which was paired with shrimp paste.
The shrimp paste was strong and pungent so you are going to like it or hate it.

The last platter was stomach slices in black bean sauce which had a texture like squid and the black bean sauce was a good strong flavour to give it some flavour.

The abalone was sweet with a strong unami taste and the duck's feet was soft and gelatinous.

Superior Bird’s Nest with pumpkin cream

This was the star of the meal because I love bird's nest and there was so much beneath the pumpkin cream.
The pumpkin cream was really tasty which went well with the delicate bird's nests that had a gentle flavour.

Lemon chicken:

Then came the lemon chicken which everyone is bound to like, it was good the sauce was served separately so that the chicken is still crispy and you can decide how much sauce you want.
It was tender chicken with a crispy coating
After adding the sauce the chicken was amazing because the lemon sauce gave it a sweet touch without being too sweet or acidic.

hokkaido oysters in two ways:

These were oysters in batter and oysters that were grilled.
The ones in batter had a juicy bursting center while the grilled ones were firm and tasted like semi dried oysters.

To finish off the meal we had noodles which were tossed in abalone sauce. There was red vinegar to make it more appetizing.

As the year of the goat is approaching many restaurants are coming up with lamb or goat related dishes!!
Yue has done a bold approach with Cantonese dishes that I could have never imagined!!
They have come up wth BBQ lamb which is marinated the same way as BBQ pork (Char siu).
They have replaced the BBQ pork with BBQ lamb in the famous 金錢雞 so it now becomes 金錢羊!!

粵味盆菜 Yue's poon choi ($2,888):

The items in the bowl were quite luxurious, there were tofu pockets filled with birds nest 內含足一兩燕窩的燕液福袋, prawns 玉簮明蝦球, prawn roe, abalone 南非鮑魚, BBQ lamb 蜜汁燒羊柳, pigs tongue 豬脷, chicken 江南百花雞, dried oysters 蠔豉, fish maw 花膠, sea cucumbers 遼參 on a bed of Chinese radish and lotus roots.
Here you can see the bird's nest inside the tofu pocket.

I loved it because it had all my favourite items especially the soft fish maw and bird's nest but the best item had to be the BBQ lamb because it was soft and tasted exactly like char shiu.

As mentioned earlier, this is a lamb version of 金錢雞.

There are four layers, ginger jelly 薑啫喱 on the bottom, a layer of fat 冰肉, a slice of mushroom 白靈菇片 topped with BBQ lamb 蒙古羊柳.

I was really happy they had this because I have always wanted to try 金錢雞 but not many restaurants offer that and you need to book in advance.
It had a delicious but complex mouthfeel because of all the different layers.
金錢雞 is a famous Chinese dish which consists of a layer of liver, pork and and fat skewered together and roasted.

Normally I don't touch Chinese New year puddings but this was mindblowing and delicious because it was not too sweet and it was soft with pieces of beetroot in it.

Walked past and the taro puffs looked good so decided to get one.
I thought they were $4 each but they were $7 which made them quite expensive.

Here they have an English menu but the specials on the board are in Chinese.
Anyway, we started off with hot sake and it was the most unique sake experience I have ever tried because they put dried fish wings in it to bring out flavour.
Here was what we had and we ordered quite a lot from the daily specials.
Started off with jerky, there was stingray fish fin jerky, puffer fish jerky and fish jerky.
My favourite was the stingray fish jerky which was crisp and chewy.

Before I went there I was excited about the view because it is on the top floor of 239 Hennessey Road.
When I arrived I was greeted with some great views of Wan Chai and Causeway Bay which reminded me of Azure in Central.
The decor was rustic and grand.
On the top floor it is a classy bar where you can have drinks and some bites before going downstairs to the restaurant.
After drinking a glass of bubbly we went downstairs to have dinner.

veal, tuna, capers, mayonnaise, sicilian caper berries
Started off with a well-known Italian cold dish of sliced veal covered with a creamy, mayonnaise-like sauce that has been flavored with tuna.
It was creamy and had a strong tuna taste with tender thin veal slices beneath it.

arancini bucket:
Arancini are fried rice balls stuffed with mozzarella and served with tomato sauce.
They are called Arancini because the orange appearance makes them look like small oranges hence arancini because oranges are called Arancia in Italian.
They were quite fun to eat with stringy cheese in the middle but I would have liked a stronger tasting cheese.

This was a nice selection of cheese ranging from soft to hard.

purple potato gnocchi :
The gnocchi was creative because they used purple potatoes to give it a blueish purple colouring.
They were fluffy with a nice chew to it flavoured by the strong cheese sauce.

Flawless sweet and juicy tender beef.

Semifreddo is a semi-frozen desserts that has an interesting frozen mousse texture.

Lastly we finished off with Panna cotta which I found a bit too sweet and the panna cotta was a bit too firm for my liking.

Cheese is a must in the Western diet but in Hong Kong there are not a lot of varieties at the local supermarket and it is expensive.
I was attracted to this place because of the cheese fondue but I ended up having the Bayonne ham and Emmental cheese brioche. It satisfied my craving for a cheese toastie.
The ham was soft and tasty while the melted cheese held it together in the soft toasted brioche which was similar to toast.
I will be back for the cheese fondue which is quite a good deal and includes the ceramic pot and candle burner.

Cheese is a must in the Western diet but in Hong Kong there are not a lot of varieties at the local supermarket and it is expensive.
I was attracted to this place because of the cheese fondue but I ended up having the Bayonne ham and Emmental cheese brioche. It satisfied my craving for a cheese toastie.
The ham was soft and tasty while the melted cheese held it together in the soft toasted brioche which was similar to toast.
I will be back for the cheese fondue which is quite a good deal and includes the ceramic pot and candle burner.
