The rice vermicelli was tasteless and didn't absorb the broth so you could ony taste the sweetness of the vermicelli and nothing else.

I am not a fan of beef so when this new pork bowl was launched for tea, I had to give it a try.

Pork bowl:

The pork is thinly sliced just like the beef with sweet sauce poured on top which I did not like.
I prefer lean pork but luckily the pickles helped to cut the oilyness of the fat.

Walked past and saw signs for OWL cafe but the door to it was blocked.

Beside it was some restaurant which was weird because there were some stairs leading down but strangely I have never seen these stairs before even though I walk past it nearly everyday.

I am not a fan of Cha chaan tengs but curiosity told me to go down so I did!!

It turned out that there was a restaurant down there and OWL is part of it but unfortunately it was closed because I really wanted to have cake with earl grey tea.
Anyway, I looked at the menu and they were serving OWL's menu so I ended up ordering the Pandan cake!!


I should have ordered the earl grey tea as well but I was in a rush!
There was a good selection of teas and they serve it by cup or pot which is awesome!

pandan cake:
When it came, the plate was so nicely decorated with sauce which is shocking considering I was sitting in a cha chaan teng!!

The cake was really nice with a strong pandan taste and it was not too sweet.
Unfortunately the base had not risen properly so it was too dense to eat.
(you can see on the left the cake is dense while on the right it has risen properly).

For brunch and Western fare, Central and SW are the places to go.
The first time I had brunch in East HK was a disaster and that was at the newsroom.

Anyway the brunch and dinner menu looked good so decided to try the brunch first because it was more captivating.
For dinner they have really cool stuff like pasta, yabbies and spinach risotto and purple milk latte.

To be honest, the price range is quite good because it costs $7x per brunch and the portions are big with two eggs but this is East HK and the fact they used to have a restaurant in Tsuen Wan.

Potato pancakes:

The potato pancakes were tasteless but after adding rock salt, pink salt and pepper is was amazingly delicious.
The pancakes evidently had pieces of potato in it but it didn't have a strong potato flavour but I liked the pieces of cherry tomatoes in it which gave it some flavour.

But the great thing is that the potato pancakes were not sweet because some weird local places like to sweeten savoury things.

Ham and ricotta cheese strudel:
It didn't quite look like a strudel and I was expecting the ham, ricotta cheese and egg to be inside the pastry.
I think it is a HK obsession that a typical brunch has visible eggs in it hence the two poached eggs on top.


Anyway, the ham and cheese strudel was divine because the cheese was cheesy and the ham was thinly sliced tasty soft ham.
I think this dish should be renamed to filo rolls as it is made of filo pastry.

I was here for the Baked Macheroni Carbonara but luckily the waitor was smart and told me that they are serving rigatoni pasta and not the macaroni as posted on their instagram because I prefer macaroni.

I ordered the hanger steak instead.

The hanger steak was just delicious, it was soft, juicy and delicious.

Apart from the delicious food, it takes some time for the food to come and getting the bill.
When I got the bill, I realized I was charged for STILL WATER which I did not ask for.
A bottle of water was placed on my table but they did not tell me it was $20 but luckily the guy kindly refunded it and said they should have told me that it was not free.
The bottle was about 1.5 litres in volume which is a bit much for someone dining alone hence the negative review even though the steak is amazing.
BUT I WILL BE BACK!!

I was hungry again so went here for some quick noodles.
One of the new toppings was weirdly interesting, it was mushrooms in milk so I wonder how it would taste.

I was quite annoyed I wasn't given this loyalty card on the previous visit or I would have had a $5 discount now!
Hence this is an OK review and not a  review .

When I took the lid off, the tofu, peanuts, coriander and sauce were neatly placed.
