Grand Hill Taiwanese Restaurant was one of the early Taiwanese restaurants in Hong Kong before the Taiwanese trend hit HK.
The menu was quite interesting because it offers Taiwanese food as well as local fare.
It was my first time dining there so I let others order because I didn't know what to order.

Keelong cuttlefish ball soup:

This was a thick soup with a nice appetizing vinegary flavour and springy cuttlefish patties in the soup.

Spicy intestines:

I didn't try the intestines but the cubes of blood curd were silky and spicy.

Taiwanese vermicelli:

The vermicelli was light and filling tossed with lots of dried shrimps and cuttlefish that made it tasty.

This was my favourite because the duck was evenly salted with a firm cured texture.

Egg yolk rolls:

The slices of salted egg in squid look really nice and pretty complemented by the green beans in it.
The egg yolks are seriously delicious and not too salty.

Chilled south African abalone:

The abalone was springy and sweet.

Ping tung style squid, chives and silver fish:

This dish had a lot different flavours going on ranging from a garlicky aroma to a fishy flavour from the dried squids and fried silver fishes.

Spare ribs in prune sauce:

The ribs had a sweet preserved prune taste but I found them a bit difficult to eat because they were bony.

The sweet potatoes were mushy and indeed sweet with a honey glaze!

The bean curd dessert was amazingly silky with a mild bean flavour.

There is now another branch of Mr Simms in Hong Kong.
I got a packet of flying saucers.

Flying saucers:
As expected the sherbet was clumped together because of the humidity.
Apart from that it was really nice because there was a cooling sensation of sweet and sour fizziness followed by the sweetness of the wafer when you chewed it.
I tried to dehumidify the flying saucers but it didn't seem to help.

Went back for detox water because it is quite a good deal for $28 but the bottle leaks a bit with the lid screwed on.
The drink was better this time because it had apple slices and blueberry.
Again it had a light refreshing sweet taste with hints of apple and lime.

A month ago, I saw photos of the white chocolate and vanilla softserve posted on Instagram by a blogger (who paid for it) but as I am not a white chocolate lover I soon forgot about it.
Then a month later, there was a sudden promotion on this white chocolate and vanilla softserve which bloggers were invited to try hence the feeds blasted on their FB.
It seemed convincing and since I had a 3 x $50 cash vouchers from the bank I decided to use one of them on the $45 softserve.
According to the terms on the voucher, it didn’t say you had to spend over $50 but they said the voucher could not be processed hence I had to get some extra stuff.

The white chocolate and vanilla softserve was really creamy and tasted like Nestles milky bar chocolate which was on the sweet side so I will probably try the milk chocolate x white chocolate and vanilla softserve next time as I have two more $50 cash vouchers.

They also had tubs of icecream but the Earl Grey icecream which I wanted has not been launched yet and Godiva doesn’t seem to know because I asked them when they emailed me about the voucher incident.

To be honest I didn't know this French brand dates back to the 17th Century with many branches in Japan.
They sell macarons and cakes so decided to try a macaron and cake.

The pistachio had a crisp shell and a soft centre with pistachio and almond flavouring.

This was a new cake and it had a lovely caramel tone to it with fiery ginger notes.

This is my first negative comment for this place because it is normally good and I have been here more than once, but on this visit the sauce was just sweet and made it taste horrible so I think they may have mistaken the sugar for salt.
Hope they get it right next time.

Whenever the ebi burger (prawn burger) is launched, it becomes a popular choice.
Now they have launched the ebi burger with pineapple, which basically has a slice of pineapple in the middle with the same mayonnaise sauce that they use for the chicken sandwich.

The pineapple in the burger was a bit too juicy and stole the show with its sweet flavours.
It was also difficult eating the burger because when you bite into it, you are biting against the pineapple fibres so you have to tear the pineapple.
