Kiwa is located in Sai Ying Pun near the Connaught Road exit of SYP MTR.
Went there for Japanese seiro which is food steamed in the seiro.
Kiwa is a very spacious restaurant hence the tables are big enough for their full sized seiros.

As well as Japanese fare, they have a good range of sakes with a pamphlet that shows all the sakes they serve.

Started off with the appetizers which were poached fluorescent squids and fish slices. Both were a good starter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Then we had sashimi with 5 different types of fish including: threadfin, golden pike, fatty tuna, prawns
My favourites were the threadfin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Next was the soup which gave me a surprise because they had sponge tofu and the tiniest cute clams which I have never seen before.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Then it was Hiroshima oysters cooked with konbu which had a strong taste of the sea.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After the soup and oyster, it was time for the seiro, the fish slices were put in first, and then the prawns and alaska crab legs.
The steaming helped keep the freshness so that the seafood was delicately cooked without losing its flavour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Finished off with a grilled rice ball and inaiwan udon which was really filling.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
For dessert they had icecream but I was too full to eat it.

[Review 4309] Free pineapple cakes @ 微熱山丘 SunnyHills

I discovered this place after dining at Cafe D'i.
Initially I thought it was a SunnyHills cafe because I saw people having tea there and eating pineapple cakes.
While I was taking photos of the front, a lady came out and asked me to go in and try the pineapple cake so I went in and sat down.
Within a flash, she bought me a tray which had a pineapple cake, tea and some leaflets about the pineapple cake.
The pineapple cake had a lovely buttery pastry filled with sweetened pineapple chunks in the middle and the size of these cakes are quite satisfying without making you too full.
When I left, I was given another box for free because it is for females hence I am showing my appreciation by sharing this experience.

Saw this place listed on openrice so searched it on FB and saw really stylish photos of this place.

This place looks even better at night with the illuminated logo at the front.

Arrived at this place and the tables were really colourful.

They have skincare products for sale too.

Anyway, the menu was good, they had croissants, muesli and breakfast and the prices were quite a good deal for its location.

The muesli is evidently popular because everyone was ordering it.

I tried some and it was really good because there were lots of ingredients in it like raisins and there was some fresh fruit on top too.

all day breakfast:

The breakfast portion was a bit too much for me because it had four slices of toast, sliced ham, bacon, sausages, scrambled egg and baked beans.
The star of the breakfast was the scrambled egg because it was fluffy and tasty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
It is nice to see that they have engraved the logo on the cutlery and the metal tab on the table.

Chinese food is not my first favourite but I really liked the food here because it has a modern touch and it is not just ingredients that are stir fried in a wok with the usual sauces such oyster sauce, soy sauce and msg etc.
Tried this place for lunch which was good, but dinner is even better because the Chef has more time to showcase his skills.

Tried the set dinner which costs $750 per person.
+++++++++++++
Started with the Burgandy Tango which was Shallots marinated in a cherry wine to tease your palate.

I loved the ruby coloured jelly and cherries. The shallots were refreshing but lacked cherry taste.
+++++++++++++
Then we had the King’s Catch which were scallops on a bed of crispy fried shredded scallop which gives the scallop a stronger taste and the sauce was nice and tangy too.

+++++++++++++
Next was the Black pearl which was amazing because I loved the clear consomme and the idea of sweet dumpling that was transformed into a savoury dumpling using squid ink and filled with generous crab meat!

+++++++++++++
Next was the futuristic looking lobster floating on clouds!!
The lobster was delicately coated in a light tempura batter served with yuzu wasabi sauce and other sauces.

Although it was batter, I felt that it tasted like Corn starch because it is better and lighter and the lobster was actually tender and springy.
The lobster was dusted with freeze dried sesame powder that looked like ash and had this lovely aromatic sesame taste released when you ate it.
+++++++++++++
Treasure Chest:

To be honest, it looked like a fried chicken but the chicken was soft and juicy yet the skin was as thin as wafer and crispy too.
I don't usually bother with chicken wings or chicken claws because it is just chicken skin, but here is was just crispy skin which was delicious.
+++++++++++++
Blazing angus
The Tender angus steak seasoned with Sichuan inspired spices was bliss because it reminded me of steak with green pepper gravy but the Sichuan gravy was even better because Sichuan pepper has a lovely aroma.

+++++++++++++
The gourmet crock

For the vegetable dish, we had this huge chunk of wintermelon that had lots of fresh vegetables in it.

+++++++++++++
For the last dish before dessert it was The gourmet crock which was Matsutake mushrooms and abalone rice slow cooked in the clay pot.

Rice and abalone gravy is simply good.
+++++++++++++
We ended dinner with the Dessert mountain of fresh fruits and Chinese candies.

Chinese candies:

+++++++++++++
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is bored of Chinese food.
