Yellow Mc Minions and bananas
2015-07-17 648 瀏覽
It is interesting that McDonald’s have put a Philippine twist to their food with the promotion of Minions.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
For McDonald’s they have:
Eggcellent silly double patty beef
Calamansi McFloat
Banana pie
For McCafe brand, there is:
Ice/Hot Banana chocolate
Philippine mango frappe
Banana chocolate roll
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Went to McD’s and tried smoe of the new items

It has two beef patties, onions, egg and cheese with black pepper sauce.
I found the black pepper sauce too sweet and not that peppery.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
McDonald’s Banana pie:
The banana puree was natrual but too sweet otherwise it would have been perfect.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
McCafe’s Hot chocolate banana:

Too sweet with a mildly artificial banana taste.

McCafe’s chocolate banana roll:

The banana cream in the middle was really artificial

McCafe’s iced chocolate banana:

The iced version tastes better because it is not as sweet as the hot version.

[Review 4468] Zumufi pronounced Hongkie style @ Zumufi
17/07/2015
Zumufi
上環永吉街28-36號永吉利商業大廈地下D室
Shop D, G/F, Willy Commercial Building, 28-36 Wing Kut Street, Sheung Wan
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/zumufi-pronounced-hongkie-style-e2469630
This relaxing joint caught my eye because it stood out amongst the market and jewelry wholesalers on Wing Kut Street.
0 讚好
They basically serve smoothies and Paninis.
Their name ZUMUFI which is rather cool and pronounced Zuuu Moooo Feeee if you pronounce it with a Hongkie accent!!
For me it reminded me of Smurfs because of the spelling.
When you order a drink they will ask for your name and write it on the tag and attach it to your drink when it is ready to avoid confusion with other customers.
Unwanted tags can be placed in the glass bowl where they donate $1 to charity for every tag returned.
There were two series for the smoothie Zumufi and Zumufi+
The plus series contain more superfood ingredients and they do not use milk in any of their smoothies.
In the end I went for the Skin+ and Detox+
I chose the Skin because I like avocados and the Detox+ because of kale and cilantro.
++++++++++++++++++++++
Skin+
As expected I really liked this because it was sweet and natural with blended avocados and you could also taste the orange juice and bananas as well.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Detox+
The detox tasted stronger compared to the Skin+ but the watermelon taste was strong.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Panini: Ham & Cheese
When it comes it doesn’t look like a ham and cheese panini because all you see is spinach leaves but after you take a bite you will realize that you can still taste the cheese and ham.
I really liked it because of all that spinach and the fact that it only costs $29 with decent cheese and ham which wins the paninis at Starbucks or Pacific coffee!

Went to Tulsi for a quick lunch because the food comes fast.
Had naan and a bindi masala because I didn’t feel like having any meat that day.

naan:

It was a race against time to eat it before it cools down because it tastes the best hot with a crisp , chewy and warm.

bindi masala:

This was viscous pieces of okra and delicious tomatoes cooked together, it was quite spicy but went well with the naan bread.

I came across this joint on my way to Icelicious so stopped for some food.
The menu was interesting so I tried these black noodles with shredded chicken because I didn’t know what they were.
++++++++++++++++++++
Chicken with fern root noodles (蕨根粉):
0 讚好
It came with lots of toppings such as pickled beans, crunchy soya beans and other pickled vegetables.
0 讚好
The noodles beneath were black and tossed in sauce, which was fragrant, and delicious infused with Sichuan spices (not an expert in Sichuan food) while the chicken was surprisingly good because it was flavourful and the chicken was springy!
I saw these snacks in the fridge near the entrance but don't know what they are:

[Review 4465] Meat cakes not worth the hype @ 大頭佛城隍廟

上環禧利街8號地舖
G/F, 8 Hillier Street, Sheung Wan
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/meat-cakes-not-worth-the-hype-e2469369
Went here because of the meat cakes.
They cost $15 each which is quite cheap.
Tried the pork and beef.
THE RECEIPT IS RATHER STRANGE BECAUSE THE MENU SAYS THE PORK HAS BLACK PEPPER AND IT DOESN'T.
The staff there were a bit unattentive.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Pork with preserved vegetables:
The pastry was thick and dense and the pork in the middle was tasteless.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Signature beef cake with black pepper:
There was a lot of juice as expected but again the pastry was dense and thick and the black pepper was dead and tasteless.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

Shop E&H, G/F, Verbena Heights Market, 8 Mau Tai Road, Tseung Kwan O

This place is well hidden! It has been here for at least a year and no one has bothered to review it.
Anyway, it was my second time and the decor is much nicer and they have these bright and bold glasses which look out of place in this wet market!
1 讚好
There are orange and green glasses as well but I think blue is the best for Hong Kong milk tea!
0 讚好
It was creative that they had a grill on top of a portable stove to turn it into Korean style grill!

I had the scrambled egg with prawns and it was surprisingly delicious, the egg was fluffy with succulent prawns.
There was a small amout of Msg which made it taste good but not abused.

[Review 4463] Fish & Chips any day @ Fish & Chick

Fish & Chick
西環堅尼地城新海旁街25號地下6號舖
Shop 6, 25 New Praya, Kennedy Town, Western District
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/fish-chips-any-day-e2469104
Glad to see Fish and Chick have more offerings on the menu.
Prior to this visit, I have been here two times.
First time for the fish and chips:
http://www.openrice.com/en/hongkong/review/western-district-fish-chick/2338608?tc=sr2&con=rvw
Beetroot salad on the second time:
http://www.openrice.com/en/hongkong/review/western-district-fish-chick/2367880?tc=sr2&con=rvw
The fish choices are getting better and they even have haddock which is commonly served in the UK and they have lunch sets that have the signature chicken and fish and chips which were not available during my earlier visits.
That night we had other items as well as the signature dishes.
Here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
0 讚好
I don't normally drink alcohol but this one was pretty so I tried some and the strawberry taste was stronger than the cider so I ended up drinking half a glass.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Crab croquettes:
As you can see, it is almost 90% crab so it had a soft texture with a lovely crab taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Fried mushroom salad:
The mushrooms were good, they were juicy and earthy mushrooms in a light crispy coating.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Fried prawns:
To be honest, they tasted like prawn cutlets covered in simple breadcrumbs served in Chinese takeaways in the UK.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Panfried seabream with ratatouille:
The panfried fish selection is a great option for locals who fear fried food!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Salted cod and egg brandade:
I liked this dish because it was silky mashed salted cod that was not too salty topped with a cute quail egg!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Hake fish and chips:
The fish was nice and flakey and the batter was light.
The meal wouldn't be complete if we didn't order extra mushy peas because the mushy peas were delicious.
Not quite the hand cut chips but once you have vinegar and mushy peas with it, the type of chips won't matter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Roast chicken:
The chicken smelt nice and the chicken was tender rubbed with lots of herbs.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Lemon and poppy seed
The cake was served warm, so there was this lovely cake aroma with lemon and the poppy seeds which gave it a nice crisp texture when you ate it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Panna cotta:
The panna cotta was silky and creamy with a slight white chocolate taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Definitely coming back for other fishes such as haddock with mushy peas and VINEGAR!
