[Review 4533] Sunday brunches @ The Great Indian Kebab Factory

Previously went here for Saturday lunch buffet and won a $200 cash voucher so decided to use it on the Sunday brunch which costs $148 per person so I went with a friend.
On Sundays, there are more curries and rice and the range is more authentic but they didn’t have my favorite curd rice and rice pudding.
Anyway, the food was still good especially the plain naan, which was great with, curries and dressings they had.
My favourites were the vegetarian curries, which were flavourful but not spicy.
On Sunday you get free refills for drinks but I didn't know that.

Mix and match noodles

Found out about Noodies a few weeks ago because I saw pictures of these pretty purple bowls.
I didn’t know it was owned by a friend until a recent post by Elena Kong (江美儀) which made me visit the place asap!

At Noodies, there are three choices of broth: Laksa, Tom Yum Kung and Pork broth.
The BEST and unique thing here is that you can choose two different types of noodles for an extra $3 more like the way they eat noodles in Singapore but in Singapore they only pair rice vermicelli and egg noodles.
I chose the Laksa broth with a mix of Korean noodles and Shanghai noodles.

It is good that they put the different noodles on different sides.

The Shanghai noodles were thicker in diameter than expected because I thought they were the thin ones and the Korean noodles, which were Korean instant noodles, were yummy because the big curls hang more soup to it.

It was great that I could choose Korean noodles because I am allergic to Korean spices and here they use whatever broth you choose.
I regretted not just getting Korean noodles because they were really nice but then I like this flexibility because you can experiment two different noodles in one go and see which tastes better.
The Laksa broth was quite spicy in my opinion but it was nice.
On another visit, I tried the Tom Yum Kung broth with Shanghai noodles and the broth was quite strong with pungent lemongrass flavouring but the lime was not prominent enough.

Hope to see Buk Kut Teh and Prawn broth soon!

Kee Wah 2015 mooncakes

Kee Wah Bakery is a chain of bakery stores in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the United States, founded in Hong Kong in 1938 by Wong Yip Wing (1911–1999), they are well known in Hong Kong and overseas Chinese communities for their traditional Chinese pastries and delicacies.

It is also famous in the UK because stores in Chinatown would import some and people from HK would send them over. However, in the recent years people have been getting fed up with traditional mooncakes due to health reasons and family sizes are as not big as before.

The traditional sized mooncakes would last you for days because they are quite sickly and during the mooncake season, there are so much mooncakes about that when you share it with people, the chances are that they have already had some.

Before the festival, many bakeries start selling mooncakes which attracts people to buy new and specials flavours for themselves, then nearer the festival, people will start buying mooncakes for others.

Anyway, there are so many varieties at Kee Wah, ranging from traditional to modern ones that there is a mooncake for everyone.

This year have a mix of East and the West with Tea mooncakes such as Earl Grey egg custard mooncake and Jasmine egg custard mooncakes!!

They have also done a joint venture with Ocean Park Conservation Foundation HK where they will donate HKD$5 for every panda themed mooncake set gets sold.

You can also get a cute panda bag for $1 by spending over a certain amount (see in store for details)

Here is part of the collection from Kee Wah that I got my hands on.

My favourite had to be the cute panda tin and the chocolate custard mooncake.

The custard was good because it was rich but not too sweet.
As well as traditional mooncakes, Kee Wah has also launched these cute panda mooncakes in a tin tower.

Thanks to Ivy for getting me this huge bread that is the shape of a hand.

It is called Le Main de Nice which means The hand of Nice in French (Nice is a town in France).

It was joy seeing this bread because it was huge.

The texture was slightly hard and bread was quite tough but after warming it up it was slightly softer.

[Review 4529] The Granville experience @ Granville Island Hong Kong

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/the-granville-experience-e2478860

As well as my lovely British background, I have also fantasized if my parents were Canadians or Americans and I would totally be different.
Anyway when I first heard of Granville Island it somehow made me think about American soaps but Granville Island is actually CANADIAN.
There are now three Granville Islands in Hong Kong, I prefer the one at Sai Ying Pun because it is too close to the MTR!
The front of Granville Island restaurant looks EXACTLY like the Granville Island entrance in Canada!!!!!
At Granville Island, they serve a variety of Western food and craft beers.
I don’t drink alcohol but there were two that are worth trying because it has a light alcohol taste.
Tried the Swedish Kopparberg elderflower and lime which is nice because the alcohol taste isn't strong and I like the lime.

Also tried the Deadfrog which has a chocolate aftertaste.

For dinner here was what we had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Sweet potato Fries($78):

A nice change from fries which were chunky sweet potatoes but they were a bit dry.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Jumbo Hot Buffalo Wings 6pcs($98):

These were really crunchy as claimed because it has a double coating which keeps it crispy and I liked the tangy sauce complimented by the sour cream.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Caesar Salad($98):

The salad was a good decent bowl of lettuce in creamy caesar sauce, a must for any dinner.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Garlic Prawn Linguine($168):
The pasta was al dente with spring prawns.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Flame Grilled U.S.Prime Sirloin Steal 10oz ($388):

Didn't try the beef because I don't really eat beef.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Free Range Chicken ($248):

Loved this and it tastes better than it looks because the chicken is tasty but the skin could have been crispier.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Granville Island Baby Back Ribs ($348half $498full):

These were good as well because the meat was soft and the BBQ sauce was smokey and sweet.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
I would recommend the buffalo wings, roast chicken and ribs.

Had this ice cold drink after an indoor cycling class and it was so refreshing,
The drink GREEN MACHINE had all my favourite ingredients: KALE, SPINACH, GREEN APPLE, and COCONUT WATER.
The coconut water makes it sweet, tasty and hydrating and I think this is my favourite blend.
There are other blends such as well to suit your taste and the drink comes in such a cute bottle.

Discovered this shop because I was having dinner in the area but it wasn't open that night so I went the following day.
I was attracted here by the front which looked old but inside it was modern.

For cart noodles you have to order at least three items which cost $9 so I chose braised beef, beef tripe and braised chicken testes with e-fu noodles with Sichuan broth and Beef broth.

I wish there were more options to choose such as luncheon meat and beef tendons.

Chicken testes fans can come here for them if they don't fancy having a hotpot.

I was impressed with the noodles because the broth was strong and clear, you can see how dark it was with a strong anise flavour.

The chicken testes were as good as expected and they taste like shirako.

The Sichuan chili oil was served separately so that you can control the level of spiciness.

For drinks I had the coconut water which is my favourite.
Natrually sweet and hydrating which is a nice option instead of canned syrupy drinks.

Hopefully on my second the noodles will be just as good because I will be back.
