Louis' Steak House is a legend in Wan Chai which has been here for decades.
I tried them before because of the fish maw and I am here again because they will be moving.

It is located in the Malaysia building which is evidently old because there is an unpleasant smell at the lobby area that was there on the first visit and still there now.

This restaurant is rather interesting because the Chinese run it and they serve proper western dishes apart from the Fish Maw.
The restaurant ambience takes you back in time and the decor reminds of this steak house called Beefeater in the UK.

The staff looked like they’ve work there all their life and most of them are senior citizens.

I was very impressed by their diverse menu that ranges from Asparagus with hollandaise sauce to Crepes Suzette.

The table was laid with red and white chequered tablecloth, formal cutlery, flowers and a small candlelight.

Caesar salad:

The salad was not that crisp but I liked the dressing because there was some mustard in it.

Fish maw steak:

After reading Jason’s review, I used the bread on the sticky fish maw sauce, and it was wonderful.
The fish maw itself was quite thick and gelatinous flavoured by the rich gravy.
Comparing it to my review, the fish maw was bigger this time and the sizes that people get are quite random.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Fresh crabmeat mushroom soup au Gratin:

This was baked, so it was very hot with melted cheese on top.
The crabmeat was nice and fresh, but the soup was quite milky.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
For steaks, we had the mini tomahawk which is slightly smaller than the usual tomahawk, it came with creamy potatoes and salad.
After adding salt, it made the beef much nicer.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Apple pie:

It looked like an ordinary apple pie, but the pastry was so light, buttery and crumbly.
I think it’s the best pie pastry I have had in Hong Kong so far.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Pancakes with liquer:

A slightly soggy pancake drenched in strong liquer and orange juice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

I look forward to their new restaurant because the style is going to be different and not as nostalgic as this.

Alpine delight burger

The Alpine delight has grilled mushrooms, Swiss cheese, American cheddar cheese (Processed cheese) and garlic aioli sauce.
The pairing of sauce was weird and didn’t match because I found the garlic aioli sauce too creamy which overpowered the fragrant mushrooms.
I didn't like the processed cheese but the other slice of Swiss cheese was good.

I know some people would probably have removed that slice of mushroom but this is what it looks like in reality so there is no point changing it to make it look like a perfect product shot.
Although it costs more, I would rather create my own burger with the #‎createyourtaste‬ option to choose mushrooms and 3 slices of cheddar cheese‪ and a different sauce.
The staff at this branch do not welcome people to take pictures of the food and environment.

Took my Indian colleague here for lunch to celebrate Diwali which
happened to be the first day of School Food in Tai Koo.
There was a long queue but fortunately we only had to wait
15 minutes and food arrived reasonably fast.
I had my favourite beetroot and crab rolls which were fresh
and scrumptious and my colleague had the stir fried beef noodles which he
liked.

We also shared some dumplings.

[Review 4788] Prized goose barnacles @ Casa Lisboa Portuguese Restaurant & Bar

Having been impressed on the first visit, I knew the food was going to be good again.

The stars of the show were goose barnacles, which are prized and rare. I know you can get them in Hong Kong once in a blue moon but Chinese restaurants probably don’t clean them as thoroughly as they should.

We first started off with this new seafood platter with seafood flown from Portugal followed by other Portuguese dishes.
+++++++++++++++
Portuguese seafood Platter:
The seafood platter comes with a bottle of wine for $1980 that is sufficient for four people.

On the palette were:
Portuguese Small tiger shrimps
Portuguese White shrimps
Portuguese Giant red prawns
Portuguese scampi
Portuguese spider crabs
Portuguese goose barnacles

It was really good because I liked all of them especially the small tiger shrimps, Griant red prawns and the goose barnacles, but personally I would prefer them without the seasoning because they are fresh and the seasoning was a bit too overpowering.

The goose barnacles look weird like dog paws and armadillo feet.
I didn't know how to eat them at first but you peel off the layer above the shell and bite the long tubular bit off.
Basically I loved them because they taste like sweet blood cockles without the metallic taste and they are clean since 100% of the flesh is encased inside that armadillo skin membrane so there is no sand and you are less likely to get food poisoning like you do from cockles.

+++++++++++++++
Stuffed portobello mushroom with spinach and bechamel:

Next we had the portobello mushroom which was juicy stuffed with creamy spinach.
+++++++++++++++
Mixed vegetable tempura with mustard sauce:

I thought it was weird there was Japanese tempura on the menu but the Chef said it was Portuguese.
Anyway, being curious I also googled it and it really is Portuguese.
It was crispy thin slices of Carrot, aubergine and zucchini which were indeed good in simple batter.
+++++++++++++++
sauteed baby squids in casa liboa style:

The baby squids were quite nice because you can taste the freshness but they are slightly spicy which makes them appetizing.
+++++++++++++++
Pan-seared red mullet fillet with shrimp and clam rice:

I love rice and each grain of rice was tasty because it has absorbed the sauce which gives it a nice savory taste.
+++++++++++++++
Baked salted bacalhau with corn crumble and spinach and rustic potatoes:

It looked like an apple crumble so you can think of it as a fish crumble with potato chunks at the bottom topped with delicious chunks of salted bacalhau that are firm but flakey.
+++++++++++++++
Lamb rack with herbs and rustic potatoes:

I was quite full so I didn't really try.
+++++++++++++++
Pineapple carpaccio Madeira way with lemon sorbet:

For dessert we had pineapple carpaccio which was refreshingly paired with tart sorbet.
+++++++++++++++
Chocolate and vanilla slice:

This was a nice dessert, i liked the chocolate fondant on top and the vanilla filling in the middle.
+++++++++++++++

[Review 4787] Japanese x Italian fusion @ Tinello

My first impressions of this place were crap because the Italian bread was just pieces of sweet cake the staff were not that nice.
Went again because this place can accommodate large groups and again they had that weird sweet cake bread.
The staff this time round were different, they were Filipino and nicer than the local ones we had last time.

Anyway, for dinner, you can order the a la carte or the set.
I got the dinner set because I was greedy.
With the first dining experience I did not choose any meat because the veal was weird last time and the texture was strange.

I went for the Linguine con sardine, which was pasta sauteed with spinach puree, tomatoes and sardines.

I regretted getting the set because the starter was pathetic, it was meant to be crispy squid and octopuses but the octopus was a joke, they used the sweet red Japanese appetizer ones and fried it!
Other than that, the pasta is a safe item to choose and the a la carte is a better choice because the pasta is good enough for two.

[Review 4786] Oily Chinese crueller @ 永康美食

Only came here because the group wanted congee.
The price is reasonably cheap for Sai Kung.
The congee wasn't my cup of tea because I found it too creamy and the Chinese cruellers were so oily that my hands ended up too oily to take a photo of them.
