Dining in a modern art filled room
2015-11-20 1819 瀏覽
The Popsy Room in Sheung Wan is a small gallery for artists to exhibit their art with a space for dining but now there is a bigger and better place at the Popsy Modern Kitchen for more people to dine there and appreciate the exhibit.
I loved the décor because it was sparkly and glistening and they had these huge acrylic spheres and flowers.

For me, I was just mesmerized by the sparkling décor because we were in the room in the corner that was decorated with white and silver elements, which I just love.
In the main room, there were portraits of local celebrities with threatened animals shot in Africa by Sean Lee Davies with a message to protect endangered animals.

The menu was quite good and offers more choices than the Popsy room with beautifully illustrated pages and I love the way the drinks are called Poptails.

For dinner, here was what we had:
Started off with a strong macho drink infused with chili, rosemary garnished with floating blueberries followed by some bread and butter.

Then we had bread:

Crispy volcano egg:

Started with this colourful dish with a molten egg on a bed of asparagus puree and chopped mushrooms.
The egg was wrapped in this delicious wafer thin crispy parsley sheet and garnished with strands of fried purple potato, which looked like silk.
I liked the simple flavours because you can taste each of the elements, which don’t really need any special sauces.

Scampi in the clouds:

Next we had the angel hair which was beautifully laid on the plate. It looked like a small portion but there was quite a fair bit of pasta in it.
The angel hair was very creamy and I felt that a little more salt or sea urchin flavour was needed but the crayfish balanced it nicely.
++++++++++++++++++++
Roast Angus beef tenderloin:

A nice juicy tenderloin paired with filling risotto that was not too creamy.

For dessert we had the Earl Grey Disco.

A delicious earl grey and chocolate mousse paired with rich red berries.

I am so glad this joint has been rebranded to 我係小食.

Previously, it used to be 天將麵包 with one shop selling bakery products and the other selling snacks.
Now it has been rebranded into two independant shops I am Bakery and 我係小食.

It took me three times to get openrice to add this shop to their database and I don't know why I bothered the third time if the system keeps rejecting this shop.

Basically they are back with the same food and their congee is amazing.
This time I tried the crispy rolls which are crispy filled with fish meat and it was quite nice but there was some alkaline taste to it.

Boxing day everyday!

It’s not Christmas but Boxing Day everyday at this restaurant because the restaurant décor is themed like a boxing ring and stadium with seats and related items displayed on the wall.

This restaurant serves Thai food at reasonable prices and portions.
Here was what we had:
+++++++
cendol coconut drink:

+++++++
Spicy crab meat salad stuffed Lychee $78
0 讚好
This was too good to share because the Lychees were not too sweet stuffed with fiery fresh crabmeat infused with lemongrass and chili.
Beneath the lychees were delicious glass vermicelli that was really appetizing because it was soaked in this delicious sauce.
+++++++
thai raw prawns:
1 讚好
These were chilled raw prawns with a chili garlic dip.
+++++++
Hainan chicken:
0 讚好
The chicken was interesting because it was the first time I have seen chicken soup poured on top of it before it is served which helps to warm and moisten the chicken.
The soup drains into the bowl at the bottom where you can dip the chicken into it or drink it.
The chicken breast was tender and the sauces complemented it nicely.
+++++++
Champion jumbo seafood noodle soup $138
The bowl was big and the amount of noodles in it were enough for the six of us!!
0 讚好
The noodles were appetizing because the broth was spicy with a hint of tomato and lemongrass.
+++++++
Tom yum goong:
The tom yum goong soup was similar to the soup broth above but stronger.
+++++++
Pad Thai:
The noodles were wrapped in a thin omelette skin.
A popular must order item which has a sweet kick to it.
+++++++
Steamed grey mullet with spicy lemon soup in hotpot $178
+++++++
Special crab curry:
The crab in thick curry sauce was another popular pick and the curry sauce tasted great with the baguettes.
+++++++
Garlic bread:
+++++++
Coconut crème brulee:
Frankly I am bored of crème brulee but this one was amazing because it was not sweet and the only sweetness came from the burnt caramel on top which was a thin layer.
The creme brulee was infused with a fragrant coconut taste and you can scoop the coconut flesh which adds another dimension to it.
+++++++
Pandan layered cake:
The pandan pudding was fragrant and somehow I managed to taste some banana.
+++++++

Thunder tea (pronounced Lei cha in Mandarin, Lui Cha in Cantonese) originates from the Hakka people.
Thunder tea is tea grounded with basil, matcha, coriander, mint, sesame, chestnuts and more goodies into a paste.
At Sinmei's, the Hakka Thunder tea rice is rice served with egg, tofu, spinach, pickles, peanuts and the Thunder tea paste which gives it an amazing flavour because the paste is so flavourful.
As well as the delicious sauce, it is a nutritious meal of protein and calcium from the tofu, egg and spinach.
I love this dish so much that I have had it twice.
The second time I had it, the tofu was not pan fried and tastes even better.
++++++++++
Sinmei was so sweet and gave me a jar of this DELICIOUS sauce because she knew I loved it so much and it was just delicious with anything but I liked it simply with fries, bread and noodles.

[Review 4809] Fake cheddar cheese @ Panash

Shop E, G/F, Chong Hing Square, 601 Nathan Road, Mong Kok

Learnt a lesson previously at the Tai Koo branch that the freshly made sandwiches are not heated up by default when you order them.
At this branch, there was a nice yeasty smell in the air, which was promising as a bakery.
I requested to have my sandwich heated up but I was not asked what dressing or free topping which I found out when the person after me ordered.
Anyway, most of the sandwiches are pretty small so the only filling one that you can choose is a baguette.
When I got my sandwich I was pretty content to see the thick slices of cheese but they were not cheddar as stated and the taste and texture was like Mozzarella
The rest of the sandwich was ok because the mustard had a sharp taste.

[Review 4808] Mini noodles @ 畔溪尚粵館 Riverside Restaurant

Shop 235, 2/F, East Point City, 8 Chung Wa Road, Hang Hau, Tseung Kwan O
https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/mini-noodles-e2512880
Randomly came here again and the food was rubbish!
This time I tried the e-fu noodles with prawns and when it came the broth smelt like vomit and it was milky so I am guessing they put milk that has expired into it otherwise it wouldn’t smell like vomit.
I am so sure there was gone off milk and cheese in it!
The soup is not meant to be milky according to the product shot.
The portion was tiny as well so I ordered this other noodle which said “Mini” on the menu so I suspect the prawn one is a mini bowl but not mentioned on the menu.
The dan dan noodles tasted weird because the broth was sour and it was also tasteless lacking peanut or any spicy flavour to it.
I was going to order the steamed egg but they ran out of oysters.
