[Review 4830] Lab Made and Squly @ Lab Made Cafe

I don't often go to Tsuen Wan but I was in the area because I wanted to check out KALA cheese toast.
The Lab Made at Tsuen Wan is decorated with the Squly and friends theme serving Squly themed desserts.
Tried the Brulee icecream cheese tart which is basically similar to the popular cheese tart that is trending now but it has icecream in the middle.
The hojicha latte was really nice because the roasted tea taste was strong.
 For desserts we had the hazelnut cake which reminded me of the cereal golden grahams paired with icecream.
There is a stamp card where you get a free folder on your second purchase or collect more stamps for a Squly plush toy.

[Review 4829] Neat French style dining in Tin Hau @ Jacky's Kitchen

I have always wanted to try this place but never quite made it.
It is located on Whitfield Street near Fortress Hill away from the crowd but saying that quite a lot of people know about this place because it was a full house that night.
To be honest, the decor looks more Italian than French.

For dinner, there is a set menu which is priced differently according to what you choose.

Started with Garlic bread and pate.
The pate was really nice but I would have liked the baguette slices without the garlic butter.

Here was what we had:
+++++++
Pan fried foie gras:
 0 讚好

A nice starter with pan fried foie gras that was silky and velvety.
+++++++
Sauteed wild mushrooms and parma ham salad:
 0 讚好

This was my appetizer and I liked the salty parma ham with the crisp salad and earthy mushrooms.
+++++++
French onion soup:

The onion soup is an option for those who prefer light soups yet it has a strong onion taste loaded with onions.
+++++++
Traditional lobster bisque:

My friend had the lobster soup which was rich with a prawny taste.
++++++
Escargot la Bourguinon:

Clean and springy escargots but they needed some salt.
+++++++
French style roast suckling pig:

The suckling pig was minimalistic but delicious with the balsamic sauce.
+++++++
French style roasted duck confit:

Although it was a bit dry, you get two duck legs which you can share!!
+++++++
Souffle:
Finished off with the ginger and coffee souffles.
The Coffee was very bitter and the ginger had a strong fiery ginger taste.

+++++++

[Review 4828] Chocolate softserve at McDonald's @ 麥當勞 McDonald's

The $5 chocolate softserve was really good because they taste and test everything so there should be some kind of standard as it is an international brand.
It was thick and creamy while the chocolate flavouring was just right without having a strong cocoa taste.
This branch now serves #createyourtaste burgers!
The guy at the dessert corner could have been nicer to the customers.

[Review 4827] Creative seasonl crabmeat dishes @ 上海婆婆336 Shanghai Po Po 336

Dined here because I liked the new crabmeat dishes which are labelled as creative.
These can found in most modern Shanghai do's but can be considered creative in this part of town because the people here are not adventurous.

The price is quite pricey in terms of dining in that area.
In the end I tried the crystal flour noodles with crabmeat which were quite nice but it needed vinegar to make it more appetizing so I asked for some.
The girl at reception was really helpful and efficient but the other staff in the restaurant were not that responsive.

[Review 4826] The exciting kids menu viewed on a viewfinder @ Jamie's Italian

Jamie's Italian

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/the-exciting-kids-menu-viewed-on-a-viewfinder-e2516488

Previously, there were only a few items on the kids menu but Jamie’s Italian have a launched a bigger and better menu with more choices.
All of the dishes are not cooked with oil and come from a sustainable source.

The view-master (view-finder) is not as just a toy but serves as a visual of the kids menu because you can see what they look like!!
Check out the kids menu using the view-master (viewfinder).
There are also crayons to colour the menu and you can fold a flicker to decide what to eat.

It was hard deciding what to eat because there were chicken lollipops, mini beef burgers, pasta, picnic box and the fish in the bag.

Kids eat free from now till 18 Dec with any order of an adult main course before 7pm. Under 12’s can eat free at anytime before the 18th.
The kids menu is sustainably sourced and organic, available in two sizes, $68 for little kids & $78 for big kids, all served with a fresh shake-me salad & freshly squeezed juice.
The kids meal comes in two choices: small or medium.

We went for the small portion and it was not as small as you think and works out like an appetizer.
The chicken lollipops had three pieces of chicken skewers and the tiny bowl of pasta had more pasta crammed into it than you would imagine.

All meals comes with a cute shake-me salad and freshly squeezed juice.

The taste is not as bland as you think and I liked the least popular pasta because of the tomato taste with the crunch on top but not as cheesy as the menu states.

To be honest the fish portion was quite big for a kid.

I didn’t try the picnic box, but this stole the show because they are the same as the lunchboxes we took to school filled with chicken wraps, fresh grapes and cherry tomatoes.

Chinese Jaffa cakes
2015-11-25  3803 瀏覽
Went to ABC Cake Shop because I was shopping at this Asian store a few doors away.
This place used to be famous in Central selling addictive nougats but probably moved here due to high rents.
Anyway, I saw some nougats being freshly made so got a box for my friend but I didn’t get any for myself because I can't stop eating them.
I decided to try their bakery.
It was a difficult decision deciding between the coconut tart or the old style wafer cake but in the end I got the wafer cake because they said it had orange and peanut butter in it.

Basically, it tasted like a Jaffa Cake but better because the orange taste is more natural.

There was no wafer in the cake as the Chinese name suggests.
