I love Southern food so this is the place to go in Wanchai.
The lunch is pretty good because it includes a side and drink and it was hard choosing a side because they are all good.
The catfish I had was coated in a perfect cornmeal coating that was crisp and light with soft and silky catfish in the middle.

I just assumed this restaurant served wonton noodles and that was it but they serve almost anything ranging from dim sum to filling dishes.
The menu is in English and Chinese which is helpful and the restaurant is clean and modern.
For food, I decided to try anything but congee or wonton noodles so here was what I had:

Braised goose webs with abalone sauce: $90

At first I thought the goose webs were not soft enough but they turned out really nice because the sticky chewy texture and the rich abalone sauce was perfect.

Pomelo skin with shrimp roe $50:
The pomelo skin was mushy and flavoured by the light gravy.

E-fu noodles in soup with chopped dried fish $55:
I was really glad this was on the menu because it reminded me of this noodle shop that has closed in WanChai which served tossed noodles with dried fish.
The broth was really nice because the dried fish had a bitter salty taste, which gave the e-fu noodles a nice flavour.

Fish skin:
The fish skin was interesting, it had a springy crunchy texture.

Pork trotters in fermented red beancurd sauce:
The pork trotters were just amazing and you could see that they were vibrant in colour.
They were extremely soft and gelatinous with a strong red beancurd taste and a lovely sticky texture.

Will come back again to try other dishes.

At Mezza 9, they have a good variety of cuisines which are cooked in different counters.
That night we had Portuguese cuisine headed by Chef Ricardo and sat on the corner with a lovely view of the pool.

The staffs were friendly and spoke really good English.
Here was what we had:

Portuguese platter:

We started with the Portuguese platter which was great for sharing.
There was Alavao cheese, Portuguese sausage, salad, ham and melon, bruschetta with salsa, crab cake and bacalhau.
My favourite was the strong tasting cheese, crab cakes and bacalhau.

Codfish, green pea cream, tomatoes, confit garlics:

This was my favourite because the codfish was firm and flaky with a nice saltiness paired with thick green pea cream.

Roasted baby chicken, tomatoes, bacon, oregano:

The roast chicken looks different and not the typical roast chicken because it is chopped up and surrounded in delicious vegetables and herbs sauce.

Pork neck, clams, bell pepper paste:

In the pot were chunky pieces of pork and clams.
The clams were sweet and springy.

Portuguese style pan fried USA beef sirloin, coffee sauce:

The beef sirloin was meaty which went well with the buttery coffee sauce that had a hint of bitterness.

Compared to the bacalhau, the sea bass had a softer texture with a nice buttery taste.

It is nice to come across a green pea soup that tastes quite different to the usual green pea soup.

The pork sausages were a surprise because they are made from mashed potatoes with pieces of meat shaped into a big burger patty topped with a fried egg.
The chips were nice and crispy and the runny egg yolk was just perfect when it was mixed into the sausage.

I have already tried the duck and waffles, eggs benedict duck confit at The Pudding Nouveau so I asked them if I could have a Duck confit croissant which they did for me served with fries.
It was quite nice having a croissant filled with crispy fragrant duck meat.
The fries were just fries but a little too crispy for my liking but normal in Hong Kong standards.
The dessert was a delight because I tried the cocktail icecreams, which are alcohol infused icecream served in a cocktail glass.
There were three on the menu and two that I had to try.

In the UK, most people will have a real Christmas tree or decorative Christmas tree for Christmas to put Christmas presents beneath it.
As it is difficult and expensive to get them here I don’t usually bother.
The Christmas tree cake at Spade by Lassana was really pretty.
Early birds can get it for $208 but the normal price is $248.
I was really impressed and happy with it because it was delicious as well as pretty.The outside is piped green tea cream and the inside is fluffy chocolate cake, which is not too sweet so I ended up eating all the green tea cream because it was really nice and not too grassy.
They also had cookies, which come in four flavours that make great gifts.
The four flavours are Earl grey, black pepper, black sesame and chocolate chips, which are crumbly with a buttery taste.
I liked the Earl Grey and Black pepper.

The first time I came here, I didn’t know they sold braised pomelo skin.
I was in the area again so went there and tried the pomelo skin but unfortunately it wasn’t as good as I hoped because it tasted sweet which is not my cup of tea.
The ox tripe tasted ok, it was soft and chewy with a strong broth taste.

Saw some fancy cakes at Maxim’s so took a look.
They had meringue tarts and these desserts which looked like Trifles.
Even though it was not a trifle I still decided to try it.
It was nice that it was similar to a trifle but the yellow part on top was not custard but crème brulee which tasted like sweet white chocolate.
Not my cup of tea but you can get a delicious trifle at Marks and Spencers for only $20
