Mochi flavours used to be just mango but now they have Durian and even purple potato.
Tried the Durian a while ago so this time tried the purple potato, which looks like Ube icecream mochi by a local dairy brand.
The purple potato mochi was really nice and not too sweet, the mash was thick and velvety but the purple potato was a bit dry.

A light dinner at Coffee Jobs

Ventured into the dark side of Kowloon for dinner.

Coffee Jobs is located at the back of Kwong Wah Street in a bright alley.

The prices were reasonable because they didn’t overcharge on items that were inexpensive such as croissants and puff pastry.

+++++

Started off with a hazelnut babyccino, which is foamed milk.

It wasn’t too sweet and gave me memories of flavoured milk at school.

+++++

I had the croissant with cheese and egg while my friend had the Ladies Breakfast.

Normally I would go for breakfast but it was American style which is not my cup of tea.

The croissant was ok, there was a piece of processed American cheese and egg mayonnaise which is acceptable for $28.

For desserts, I had the lemon meringue and purple sweet potato puff.

The sweet potato puff was simple, basically it was just a baked vol au vent filled purple potato filling which is reasonably priced at $28.

+++++

The lemon meringue was slightly bigger in size but delicious because the lemon curd was sharp.

There are three Ronins in Hong Kong and this place is not to be confused with the one in sheung wan.
The other branch of 浪人日本料理 Ronin Japanese Cuisine is in Wanchai but they serve all you can eat.

At this branch, they serve fine Japanese food and here was what I had:

Assorted sashimi:
 0 讚好

The sashimi is fresh paired with some tasty kelp.
Each day the sashimi is different because they will only source the freshest to serve.

Black sesame beancurd with Japanese sea urchin:
 0 讚好

I loved the pairing of delicate tofu and sea urchin.
Both contrasted each other nicely.

Edamame beans in three styles: Salt, wasabi and soya
 0 讚好

A nice variety of edamame beans, the wasabi was the best.

Assorted Tsatuka:

The chicken was crispy and juicy but the abalone was a bit too chunky for my liking.

Kurobato pork cutlet:

Flawless juicy pork cutlet.

Chilled Soba noodles:

Chilled soba, another one of my favourites, plain and simple soba noodles in a light broth.

Finished off with the sake jelly which had a strong sake taste and high alcoholic content.

For years I have always wanted to try this place but never got round to it because I didn't know my way around.
Finally made it and found it quite pricy and the noodles were not as good as I expected because they had a strong alkaline taste and the crab roe was a bit fishy and oily.
澳門新龍記 serves better crab roe noodles and it is cheaper but the portion is slightly smaller.

This is my fave place for hotpot and probably the fifth time dining here.
When I sat down I noticed this poster of Anthony Wong which was bit odd but when I had a closer look it was signed by him to this joint saying that this place is great.
I picked my favourite Hokkaido milk soup which is great for putting vegetables and glass vermicelli in it.
Since my last visit, they now offer tea as well.
My friend had the HuaDiao wine pot which was strong and delicious, the sauce was great with glass vermicelli too.

Believe it or not!!! Anthony Wong 黃秋生 was also dining there, and I am sure he must have come through the back door!
So if the food isn't good I don't think he would dine here or sign a poster for this place.
The poster is quite old so I reckon he must be a regular here.

[Review 4902] #McDonaldsNext Hong Kong Concept @ 麥當勞 Next McDonald's Next

Earlier we saw McDonalds #createyourtaste which allows you to customize your burger.
Now there is #McDonaldsnext which is a modern restaurant that lets you customize your salad using the touchscreen stands.

There are also charging points for your mobile phones.

The only bad point about this restaurant is that they sell their regular menu as well which means there are lots of people buying drinks and occupying the seats doing trivial things like tuition and selling insurance, the norm in Hong Kong.

I customized a salad and ordered the waffle because these were the items unique to this store.

The cheese choices for the salad were poor, it was either mozzarella or Parmesan and no Cheddar.

Unfortunately, they gave me the wrong salad base.
I was given the romaine, iceberg and lettuce mix and not the California mix that I chose.

The Quinoa and the big pearls of Couscous was amazing because it was really tasty.

The crayfish and egg salad was nice which is basically the same filling as the one they use in their croissants

It was really good that they give you the dressing separately because I didn't really need it but there are three dressings: vinaigrette, caesar and sesame.

For desserts, the mixed berries sundae waffle was a bit too sweet.

The tea was weird, I was given a pot of hot water and a cup of hot water.

As well as Hong Kong, you can also find #createyourtaste in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and some stores in New York.

V.I.C.T.O.R.I.A cake RULES!
2015-12-27  571 瀏覽
I was quite surprised that Maxim’s have launched the Victoria Cake because it is not their style to have English cakes.
+++++++++++++++++++
A Victoria cake is also known as the Victoria sandwich or Victoria Sponge cake is basically two layers of sponge cake with raspberry/strawberry jam and whipped double cream or vanilla cream in the middle.
The top of the cake is decorated and dusted with icing sugar.

Photos of a Victoria sponge cake from UK's Sainsbury.

+++++++++++++++++++
The one at Maxim’s doesn’t quite look like a Victoria cake because it is topped with berries and these berries are probably there to make it worth $80 (small)/$148 (large).

Frankly $80 is overpriced and in general ALL bakeries in Hong Kong are overpriced.
You can get Victoria cakes for around HKD$20-40 in the UK and the high-end cakes are still cheaper than Hong Kong.

There were two Victoria cakes, a chocolate version and a Vanilla version but to be honest, there is no such thing as a Chocolate Victoria cake although it may be a modern thing.

Anyway, I didn’t have any expectations because most of their cakes are local style but I tried both anyway.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Vanilla Victoria Cake:

Pretty good with decent cream but the jam was in the middle and not evenly distributed.
The sponge cake was light and fluffy.

I would have given top marks for this cake if it wasn’t for the silly strawberries on top and the stupid biscuit base.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Chocolate Victoria Cake:

Evidently a delicious Black Forest cake filled with delicious cherries in the middle which tastes better than their so-called Black Forest cakes that they sell!
