Discovered this bakery after having hotpot at The Drunken pot.
Went in because I saw lots of green coloured cakes which happened to be my favourite pandan flavour.

A very blue cake:

There were fancy red velvet cakes in the cabinet and mini mousse cakes.
I ended up getting the pandan swiss roll which had whole red beans on the surface.
When i paid, i saw this plain red velvet cake made with beetroot juice so got it as well.

red velvet cake:

too sweet

Pandan roll with red beans:
Not fluffy and it was a bit dense lacking pandan flavour.

Mentaiko Day! 明太子の日

I used to come here for lunches but they only open in the evenings which is a pity.
There is a really good deal just like their lunches but it starts at 10pm.

There is an all you can drink session until 3am which includes 3 sides or you can choose the late dinner which comes with Japanese rice, soup and three sides.

I tried the dinner and my friend had the drinks.

Premium mentaiko:

The salty mentaiko is delicious with rice, but they give you some on your rice anyway.

This was creamy soft avocado cubes with mentaiko.

The croquette was filled with silky smooth potato and mentaiko filling which gave it a salty flavour.

Mentai Japanese sauce Inaiwa udon:

I am not really a fan of chewy udon so this just tasted ok to me.

Tender Mentai Dashi egg roll:

Anyone who likes egg will love this tender egg roll filled with delicious mentaiko but I found the egg slightly sweet.
+++++++++++++
For my second bowl of rice, they gave me Mentaiko and seaweed flakes to season the rice which made it tasty.

They had shochu in interesting flavours such as barley, sesame and sweet potato.
My friend got the shochu which turned out clear like water but there was no sweet potato taste and the alcohol taste was very strong.

I had the oolong tea which was non alcoholic.

Jan 10th is Japan's Mentaiko day and they have some promotion going on until April.
For more details, see their FB.

They also have Mentaiko products on sale at the restaurant.

I got the Mentaiko and sugar pretzels which are sweet and spicy with a mentaiko aftertaste but they don't look like pretzels to me.

Consistently good food
2016-01-10  946 瀏覽
Although I haven’t written about this place much, this is my regular canteen for Indian food.
On this visit I had pulao rice, naan, butter chicken, aloo gobi, aloo tikki and my favourite chocolate lassi.

Basically, this place reminds of East London and the curries are done just right.

The butter chicken is my all time favourite because the sauce is creamy with tender chunks of chicken in it.

Naan is soft with a nice chew to it.

Aloo tikki is a delicious potato and vegetable patty with spices and vegetables.

Pulao rice:
The pulao rice was soft and fluffy but it was quite spicy.

Butter chicken:
Creamy and with tender chunks of chicken in it.

Aloo gobi:
This was quite spicy with a good mix of cauliflower and potatoes.

Chocolate lassi:
A nice blend of chocolate and lassi.

Sweet lassi:
Compared to the chocolate, this was a bit too sweet.

My first visit in 2013:

As well as a la carte, their lunch deals are pretty good.

[Review 4940] It's Tortellini not Ravioli! @ The News Room Diner

Went here because I saw Ravioli on the menu.
Ordered it, but when it came, it was evidently Tortellini and not Ravioli.
The taste was ok but the carrots and broccoli were a bit hard.
Tried it the next day cooked in tomato sauce and it was delicious.

[Review 4939] More veggie burgers @ Beef & Liberty

Not a fan of beef so I always go to Beef and Liberty when they have new veggie burgers and it is really good that they keep launching new veggie burgers.
This time they have launched a Beetroot and goats cheese burger to start the New Year, which is available until 31st of January.
The patty is made with beetroot, brown rice, kidney beans, cumin, chili and coriander topped with goats cheese and a pickled slice of beetroot.

When it came, it looked a bit like raw beef patty with a dark fuschia colour but rest assured it's vegetarian.
It was really tasty packed with beetroot and more beetroot with a touch of cumin spice mixed with creamy cheesy goats cheese.

For drinks, I didn’t feel like a heavy milkshake so went for the lemon tea, which turned out to be amazing because the tea base is Earl Grey tea.

There is always a long queue here for food because it is cheap and delicious but fortunately the queue goes down surprisingly fast and within a flash you get your food.
Came here because of the new veggie balls and chicken balls.

Veggie balls $8:

I love veggie balls and the price was reasonable, you could see peas and sweetcorn in it.
They were simply delicious and the texture of the peas in the balls were starchy and hard.
This is why I like vegetarian food because vegetables can’t be faked whereas things like flour, offal, fat etc can be mixed into meatballs and sausages.
The only thing that ruined it was the sauce because it was honey mustard and just didn't go well with it.

Chicken balls $6:

These were a bit disappointing because the texture was a bit squidgy and it wasn’t really meaty with an off chicken taste.
