McDonalds Hong Kong has launched the purple potato softserve so went and tried it.
 The McFlurry has meringue bits and the sundaes have purple potato syrup drizzled on it.
 As I was mainly interested in the softserve and meringue I decided to get the McFlurry without the Oreo because the oreo doesn’t quite match purple potato and the taste is too sweet and overpowering.
 The purple potato taste was pleasant and it is basically artificial fllavouring just like the ones they put in Taiwanese teas and it is similar to the typical flavours you get from Monins syrup.
They also serve purple rice soymilk which tastes more like purple potato so I suspect the flavouring is purple potato and not purple rice and it makes sense that it could be purple potato because they don't need to buy another flavour to launch a new product.

Fish & Chick branches out to Kwun Tong

On my last visit to Fish & Chick, I got news they were expanding to Kwun Tong but I don’t really go to Kwun Tong unless the food looks good.

Recently saw MungKKs review and the food looked great so I decided to go there.

The new branch at Kwun Tong is called Fish and Chick Plus because there are some new dishes here that are not available at Kennedy Town and the restaurant and kitchen here is much bigger.

When I got there, the squid and clams were already on my mind.
Ordered the squid, clams and a pasta.

After finishing all that, I was still a bit hungry so I ended up having Fish and chips as well and it was really good.

While I was there, I was quite surprised to see people eat the fish and not the batter and they didn’t know what the vinegar was for.
Basically vinegar is like standard sauce for fish and chips just like the red sauce, soy sauce and sesame sauce that comes with ricerolls.
The batter is just a coating just like Chinese battered stuff such as fried oysters, fried milk etc!

Clams:

Similar to blood clams and popping with delicious broth infused with white wine.
They were natrually quite salty but the sauce was delicious with bread of chips.

Squid:

The squids were extremely tender with a slight elasticity to it and the bigger squids on the pan were also tender.
I wish the squid had squidink as well which would make it taste even more amazing.

Ali aioli linguine:

A flawless pasta dish because the fresh garlic made a difference because fresh garlic slices are sweet and crisp.

Halibut and Chips:

A very chunky and moist fish as shown on the picture.
The batter was even and crisp.
Chips were good with a fluffy centre.

The best bit was the skin because it keeps the fish moist and gives it a really nice fishy taste.

+++++++++++++
Carrot cake:

I loved this carrot cake which had a thin layer of cream cheese frosting.
It was moist with a prominent cinammon taste which tastes just as good as the carrot cake from Shortbreadteas.

[Review 4974] Travel back in time @ 大公館 Greater China Club

I am impressed how Lai Chi Kok has changed.
D2 did not exist a few years ago and fine dining in industrial buildings were not popular in the past but all that has changed.
D2 houses quite a few good restaurants and Greater China Club is just the thing for residents at liberté.
It is grand with lots of private rooms and there is a lounge that transports you back to the glamourous 1920s with someone playing the piano and there is a lovely roof garden with manmade grass.
Each room is named after a Chinese instrument.

Although this place is new, I was surprised that it was bustling and people were still hanging around the mall and eateries at 10pm when I left.

Anyway, here was what we had but the dimsums have to be preordered if you want them for dinner.

Seemingly a Chinese restaurant because of the decor, they also serve Thai food as well.

Baked Barbecued pork buns:

These were cute steamed buns which looked like hedgehogs filled with barbecued pork.
The base of the bun was nice and crispy which gives the bun a better bite.
++++++++++++++
Steamed turnip pudding with conpoy:

As we are approaching CNY, these fish shaped turnip puddings are just the thing with a balanced mix of grated radish and preserved sausage bits.
++++++++++++++
Cold abalone with pomelo:

The abalone was an item from the Thai menu which was really appetizing with pomelo bits bursting with sweetness while the abalone was tender.
++++++++++++++
Jellyfish with guava:

This was another dish I liked because of the spicy vinaigrette dressing and crunchy jellyfish pieces.
++++++++++++++
Barbecued prime iberico pork:

The pork was sticky and soft covered in thick sweet glaze that was sweet enough to attract bees!
++++++++++++++
Minced spotted garoupa thick soup with shredded assorted fungus:

I have not had anything like this but I loved it because it was light with a strong fish taste and you can see how finely shredded the black fungas and beancurd skin are.
There was glass vermicelli in it as well which gave the soup some structure and held the ingredients together.

++++++++++++++
Poached seasonal vegetables in Spanish ham in rice soup:

This was a healthy dish of poached Chinese cabbage in what I call rice gravy which is healthy and delicious.
++++++++++++++
Crispy pork ribs:

This was a boneless rib which was a piece of sliced pork in batter covered in sweet and sour sauce that is similar to the sweet and sour pork you find in Chinese takeaways.
++++++++++++++
Wok-fried vermicelli with vegetarian shark’s fin, conpoy and egg:

If I wasn't full I would have eaten more because I love stir fried glass vermicelli mixed with fragrant scrambled egg and vegetarian sharks fin pieces.
They give you a side of crispy conpoy to garnish and it really enhances the taste.
++++++++++++++
For dessert, we ventured into the lounge and had dessert wine with dessert.

Tiramisu:

Steamed egg with birds nest:

Pineapple and coconut pudding:

I was stuffed at this stage but the pineapple and coconut pudding was really good with chunks of sweet pineapple in it.
There were Thai desserts on the menu too.

If it wasn't for Wine and Dine with free transport, I probably wouldn't have bothered taking a look here.
Anyway, they were giving out canapes probably to promote their wedding reception services.
I tried the salmon and cream cheese canape which was quite nice, the salmon had a strong smoked taste with creamy cheese cheese in the middle.

Hero Sandwich is a well-established brand.
They first started off in Tai Kok Tsui and expanded to Central, however rents were probably too high so they packed up the Central branch and opened a bigger and better branch at D2 place.

The menu has more variety than before and caters for the needs of Kowloon preferences with a comic theme that I don’t recall seeing in Central.
There was a giant hotdog which is filled with three burger patties and sliced frankfurters.
Interesting banana soda:

The most expensive item on the menu costing $260:

Anyway, I only had a pandan muffin because I was having dinner.

It was heated up so the pandan aroma was really fragrant and the muffin texture was hot, soft and moist.
The taste was really good and the muffin was not too crumbly.
It was really nice of them to give me cutlery even though I didn't ask for it because I found the muffin too hot to handle.

[Review 4971] Japanese style inspired glutinous riceroll @ 鴻福堂 Hung Fook Tong

Discovered this riceroll at Hung Fook Tong, so decided to try it.
I think this snack is going to be quite successful because the other snacks like chicken leg, eggs and shaomai aren’t really filling carbs.
The riceroll comes in two flavours: pork in sesame sauce or beef in black pepper.

I decided to go for the beef because pork can be smelly if it is not fresh.
The riceroll came in a long tubular cardboard packet with a vacumn sealed pack where you peel off the back to eat like a banana.

The glutinous rice was nice and soft but the black pepper really ruined the riceroll because it was too strong and hot that it tasted bitter and you couldn’t even taste the beef.
Hopefully they will launch a vegetarian and a chicken one because I reckon it would taste nicer.

I have always wanted to try this place because of the creative dessert but Yuen Long is such a trek.
Discovered this place because I was having dinner nearby hence the reason I only had a drink.
I had the Lychee soda which had a good fizz with a fragrant lychee syrup flavouring.
There was a flashing LED cube in the drink hence the light.

Hope to come back for desserts.
