Edible goldfishes that are too pretty to eat
2016-02-05 2684 瀏覽
Went here before Chinese New Year because some stunning goldfishes were shown on Yum Cha’s Facebook.
Yum Cha have launched some auspicious dishes just for the new year.
For some dishes, pictures were more convincing than words and the taste was good as well.
Here was what we had:
++++
Mini abalone tart:
I love the tiny cute abalone on top which surprisingly had a strong taste.
For me, size matters, I like things either really small or really big.
++++
Braised vegetarian parcel:

Vegetables are a must, and these earthy mixed mushrooms are wrapped in a large sheet of beancurd skin like a sack.
In it were prized yellow fungus.
++++
Seafood fresh coconut soup:
The soup contained coconut water so it was really sweet infused with chicken broth that came from the pieces of chicken.
There was a big piece of soft and silky fish maw at the bottom.
++++
Whole seabass:
This was a silky fish coated in crispy coating covered in sweet Champagne sauce that had a touch of bitterness to it.
I liked it because the sauce was not too sweet.
++++
rose scented sticky rice:
For those who like rose and preserved sausages.
The rice was chewy and sticky loaded with pieces of preserved sausages.
++++
Goldfish har gow:
This was too pretty to eat but it was taut dumpling skin with springy prawns in the middle.
The goldfish did not fall apart when you picked it up with chopsticks.
++++
custard buns:
Soft and sweet buns oozing with runny custard.
++++
Chocolates:
I have already tried their apple tarts so this time went for the chocolates.
My favourite was the green tea chocolate and the pistachio white chocolate.

[Review 5016] Thanksgiving at Restoration @ Restoration

Although I am British, I love American Thanksgiving dinners because of the turkey and pumpkin pie.
I went to Restoration for Thanksgiving and had just that.
The corn bread stuffing was nice but it was too spicy but the Thanksgiving version at blue smoke bbq was not spicy.
The other sides such as French beans in gravy were really nice.
We finished with a nice pumpkin tart spiced with cinnamon.

Just for Chinese New Year, there is a Chinese meal that costs $888 for two at Jamie's Italian which is served until the 13th of Feb!!

All these dishes are from Jamie's recipe so you can try them here without having to cook it yourself.

I was really impressed with the Chinese inspired dishes such as the fish, rice, chicken wings and the side of cabbage.
The only thing that was missing for that complete Chinese experience were chopsticks.
Here was what we had:
+++
Roasted sweet potato and quinoa salad:
1 讚好
This was a nice fibre rich salad containing mushy sweet potato, quinoa and my favourite buffalo cheese.
+++
Crispy spinach and ricotta ravioli:
These were crispy pieces of ravioli filled with spinach.
+++
Honey and ginger chicken wings:
1 讚好
I have never liked Chinese style chicken wings because they are too oily and sweet but this was perfect because the wings have been grilled and the honey was not cloyingly sweet.
+++
Crispy duck and squash salad:
The salad was well balanced with lots of greens complimented by the crispy duck.
+++
Rice:
I am not sure how the locals will react to this but it tasted like the rice I had for school dinners so I loved it.
+++
Oven baked fish of the day:
Although the menu says it is oven baked, it looks like Chinese steamed fish and the fish texture was silky and soft.
+++
Seasonal greens:
Basically it was braised sliced cabbage slices with a chili and garlic kick.
+++
For drinks I had the lychee lemonade which was an interesting pairing because the sweet and fragrant lychee went well with the refreshing lemon.
+++
Pineapple and pomegranite yoghurt:
The texture of the yoghurt was different because it was a bit like chalky sorbet but you could taste the yoghurt paired with tart pineapple and sweet pomegranite.
+++
Black rice pudding:
The rice pudding wasn't sticky and it was quite tart because of the passionfruit and the mango wasn't strong which worked for me because I don't eat mango.

Tried this before at Langham and loved it but I rarely go to MK which is why I haven’t been back.
There is a new store in TST so went there after dinner.
I have tried popcorn icecream which is basically icecream coated in popcorn so this time I had the plain because the plain milk icecream is actually quite nice with a rich milk taste.
For cakes, I had the Banana Tiramisu, which was light and fluffy, and the portion was big so it is best to share.
Finished off with a Milk milkshake, which was thick and creamy.
I also got a tin of popcorn because the popcorn here is irresistible, they are almost perfect spheres, sweet and crunchy without being cloyingly sweet.
