More musubis from Hana Musubi

Walked past and noticed some new musubis, which seemed nice so I got them both.
I thought I was going to like the vegetarian one more but the salmon one ended up tasting nicer.
+++++
Salmon and whitebait:

This one was quite salty with lots of crunchy pickles but I couldn’t quite see the salmon or whitebait.

+++++
Gomuku vegetarian:
The taste was not what I was expecting because it was mostly sweet so I didn’t like it.

++++

[Review 5058] Green tea eggtart @ 漢堡餅店 Hamburg Cake Shop

Walked past and saw this odd coloured eggtart in the cabinet so I asked them what flavour it was and they said it was green tea so I decided to try it.
It felt like such a coincidence because I just had a green tea eggtart at Winstons coffee round the corner.
The one here had a darker colour.

The taste was the typical local eggtart taste with a very buttery shortcrust pastry and the filling was very sweet and eggy.
The colour of the pastry is quite yellow so you can imagine all that butter/lard or whatever they use.

Not my cup of tea but it was only $3.

[Review 5057] Matcha eggtart @ Winstons Coffee

Spotted this place a while ago in January because it looks like the cinemas in the UK.
The Genesis cinema at Whitechapel, London.
I went here because of the Matcha eggtart.

Normally I am quite picky with eggtarts because the locals ones have a weird buttery taste and the egg filling is always too sweet and the eggtart base (shortcrust pastry or puff pastry) is always oily.
The one here is addictive.
If I wasn't having dinner I would have had another because the matcha filling is almost liquid and the egg taste is balanced by the matcha on a light crumbly shortcrust pastry base which is flawless.
$20 might be expensive but I would rather pay for this than have a local eggtart which has a nasty oily tart base that has an overwhelming lard smell.

Other items they offer.

I will be back for the avocado and cheese toast.

[Review 5056] Chilled noodles at Hot-pot Express @ 小竹簍冒菜 Hot-pot Express

Came back for the chilled noodles, which don’t appear to have chicken as shown on the picture.
Anyway the taste was ok but the noodles had been in the room for too long because most of the strands were too hard and dry.
A very spicy bowl of pigs blood curd.

Went back for more Chongqing pea noodles, this time the owner shown on the poster was there so I think my noodles were cooked by her.
The peas were whole ones just like the ones on Instagram but unfortunately, I found the noodles too spicy to eat.

[Review 5054] Not just plain rice with pork oil @ 粗菜館 Tso Choi Restaurant

This place is opened by Chua Lam 蔡瀾, so obviously they serve plain rice with pork drippings.
I didn’t think there would be much on the menu which is why I haven’t tried it but the menu was quite surprisingly.

There is a lot of weird Chinese fusion but the combinations matched quite well.

I don’t know how long they can keep this on the menu due to demand but they had pigs brains which I have never tried before so I had to try it while it was on the menu.
Previously I tried to go to Macau for pigs brain soup but it was sold out.

As expected the texture of pig brain is like pate and very thick and doesn’t quite disintegrate in your mouth with a slight bitter and fishy aftertaste.
It was nice how they made it into an omelette but there is quite a lot of cholesterol with the egg as well.

The other dish I liked was the Pigs liver in Sichuan peppercorn sauce.
Each slice of liver was thick and big with a decent velvety foie gras texture similar to the ones they call (wong sa yun) in Chinese.

I won’t eat liver unless the texture is like this because I hate the dry, hard and rubbery ones.
With dinners like this, you have to have rice and the mains were so good that I had two bowls of rice.

The plain rice with pork drippings looked captivating because the pork drippings were served separately so you can decide how much to put on the rice.

The other main dish we had was the pork belly with preserved vegetables.
I am not keen on the pork belly but the preserved vegetables was delicious with rice!!!!

[Review 5053] Fried oyster at Bakudan-Ya Fried Chicken @ 唐揚專門爆彈屋 Bakudan-Ya Fried Chicken

It has been ages since I have been to this street and so much has changed.
There is now a relatively new noodle joint, coffee shop and the rest are mostly Korean joints.
I went to this shop which sells fried chicken but as I was having dinner I couldn’t get the fried chicken because the minimum order was 3 pieces which meant I would be too full for dinner so I just got a fried oyster.
The oyster takes 5 minutes as stated and it was cute that they actually used a timer to time it precisely.
After it was fried, they put sauce and sprinkle herbs on it, which I wasn’t too keen on, but luckily it tasted ok.
The oyster was fresh and coating was crisp and light complimented by the sauce which was not too sweet.
