Nice decor
2016-03-15 1941 瀏覽
I have always wanted to dine here because I like middle Eastern foods.
The decor was really nice.
The service could have been better, there were two people there, one was quite helpful and the other could have been friendlier.
I asked if there was more seating downstairs and she gave me this look that it wasn't open because she thought I wanted to sit there but I was just asking for reference and possibly for photos.
It was lunchtime so I got the lunch set.
Luckily I took a photo of the menu because she didn't even tell me that tea or coffee was included.
The lunch lets you sample some middle Eastern dishes but there were some that were obviously not middle Eastern like the lobster soup.
+++++++++
Lobster soup:
+++++++++
Fattayer spinach:
This was like an Indian bahji filled with delicious spinach.
The sauces given were weird because it was just a mix of salad cream and tomato ketchup.
+++++++++
Kotopoulo rolls with chicken:
This was disappointing because the menu says that it wrapped in filo pastry but it was just spring roll pastry and tasted the same as your ordinary spring roll with chicken.
+++++++++
Loubieh bil zeit:
This was French beans cooked in tomato simmered in spices.
I really liked this vegetarian dish and basically it was soft French beans with a strong tomato puree taste with rice.
+++++++++
The other main was chicken but I didn't like the rice because it was too minty.

Amber

Amber has been on my wish list for years and now I have finally tried the famous sea urchin which is going to be taken off the menu soon.
Started off with the mushroom tea which tasted like Bovril.

The we had these adorable porcini mushroom macarons with pumpkin filling.
Then came a huge acorn with a beer batter beignet and a crispy leaf made of pumpkin.
The star of the show was the sea urchin with smooth and silky cauliflower puree covered in lobster jelly and caviar.
It was simply divine!
+++++++++++
Next was the Duck 'a la Royale' covered in rich gravy made of blood.
It was sensational because there was foie gras in it as well as duck.
+++++++++++
The dishes I had were served at the Taste of Hong Kong from the 10th to the 13th March 2016.
Twelve of Hong Kong’s most celebrated restaurants, such as Amber, Tin Lung Heen and Yardbird came together to serve a premium menu of more than 40 signature dishes on small plates and iconic one-off festival creations-all in one location.

This is my second visit because I love the spicy pork trotters.
Ordered the trotters, rice and chicken momo.
I would have ordered plain rice but I couldn't find plain rice on the menu because it would go better with the pork trotters.
The pork trotters were as good as the first visit, they were soft and spicy.
The momos were ok but the sauce was not spicy enough compared to other Nepalese places.
The fried rice was quite nice with pieces of green peppers and onions but ideally I wanted plain rice with the trotters.
The staff was really nice because when he found that I was going to have the trotters with rice, he kept the trotters warm until the rice came.

This is a late review because I had too many meals here that I forgot to write about it.
Kid's meal:
My favourite crispy pork sausages with mash and beans.
0 讚好
Lancashire hotpot:
flawless dish with delicious gravy and meat beneath it.
0 讚好
Macaroni and cheese:
The macaroni was interesting because the taste gets cheesier when it cools down.
0 讚好
Fish pie:
Delicious fish pie with chunks of seafood and springy prawns.

[Review 5118] A new story for Wan Chai @ 囍碟 Hei House [done]

囍碟 Hei House

https://www.openrice.com/zh/hongkong/review/a-new-story-for-wan-chai-e2554043
Hei House is located on Lei Tung Avenue, a new street in Wan Chai which used to be different and old specializing in Chinese wedding accessories.
There is quite a debate on this street because it is so different but I love it and I love the buildings and red lanterns.
I find myself constantly drawn to this street and I spotted Hei house immediately because it had a different style, you would think they serve Cantonese dim sum because of the steamers but they actually serve Malaccan inspired dishes.

Out of all the eateries on Lee Tung Avenue, this was the one I wanted to try first so I did.
The decor is oriental with a dreamy touch and the chandelier that is constructed with Chinese plates is just amazing.
As well as the environment, the staff were really friendly and warm.
They provided diners with portable heaters downstairs and upstairs as well.
The staff all spoke good English and knew about the dishes when I asked which is really helpful when you are trying to decide which dish to pick.
Went here for dinner because lunch is too rushed and evidently popular, the menu has so many choices and a good variety of drinks too.
Some items on the menu have an English touch to it so I had to order them.
Portions are big which makes it great for sharing.
On the table, there are a set of chopsticks, a knife and fork so you can eat using whatever you prefer.
The menu is nice and descriptive so it gives you a good picture of what you are ordering and I like the way it suggests you to return one of the dishes if the egg is not runny as stated.
Here was what we had:
++++++
Bak Kut Knuckle:
This was English pork knuckle stuffed with Chinese doughnuts accompanied with a pot of Bak Kut Teh soup which you pour on it when you eat.
As well as the knuckle the BKT soup was really good with a strong taste of herbs.
It would be interesting if they had BKT gravy because it might taste nice.
++++++
The crab rice:
This is a dish for crab lovers~
It has a big pile of crab roe AND crab which is from Devon.
The rice beneath it is cooked in lobster bisque which gives it a rich lobster flavour and there is a Tom Yum broth as well to make it less boring and give it an extra kick.
++++++
Spicy 4 cheeses fondue:
I was surprised they had this one the menu but I love cheese fondue so we had it.
It came with herbed croutons, bread, cauliflower and broccoli.
This is great on a cold day but I found the spices a bit too spicy for me.
++++++
Little Indian spiced Fish and chips with Laksa dip:
I thought this was wicked because I love Indian food and Fish and chips.
Basically, they have combined the two!
The fish and chips were taken to the next level because they had a hint of curry to it and the Laksa dip in the middle was damn good with the chips.
++++++
Porcini, forest mushrooms and 5 spices tofu wonton with porcini and kombu consume:
The wontons were on the sweet side but the broth was strong with a bold kombu taste so I liked it.
++++++
Devon crab toasts:
This was flawless with a nice hint of black pepper.
Unami at its maximum.
++++++
YO:
This might be strange for some mixing yoghurt and coffee but I liked it because I liked the bitterness of the coffee contrasted by the tart yoghurt.
I would have liked it if there was more yoghurt so that it was thicker.
++++++
Hey Jude:
As well as YO, this was another English drink for me because it had tea and marmalade!~
Very refreshing and perks up your mood.
++++++
I'll be back for lunch.

I got to try this Signature Scallop with beetroot, yuzukosho, capers, and anchovy dish because they had a stall at #TasteofHK
It was really nice as it was full of flavours and complexity because the tartness of the pickled crunchy beetroot paired with the scallop nicely.
They had an asparagus soup too which I regretted not getting.
