Mad for Garlic is a garlic themed restaurant where every dish has garlic in it, even the desserts has garlic as well, franchised from Seoul, Korea.

I don't normally eat in Korean eateries because everything has kimchi but some dishes at Mad for garlic doesn't.

Comparing the decor, the Hong Kong restaurant is too bright and not goth enough because Hongkongers are a bit scared of the dark side.

The Christmas tree was good because they had garlic bulbs as baubles

What I didn't like was that I had to sit in the middle of the restaurant at 5:45 when there were no customers, perhaps they wanted to make the restaurant look busy! On the last visit, they were collecting the plates when you hadn't finished.

Ordered the garlic tower, gorgonzola pizza and steak saam,

Guaranteed a garlic breath after eating this but they should label this as spicy because they put chili in it.

It was good that they serve the honey garlic sauce separately.

The gorgonzola was yummy as expected with a strong pungent salty taste but the rest of the cheese on the pizza didn't have much taste.

Steak saam:
The English says naan but the naan looks like a Calzone.



Anyway, the steak was good, it was juicy and tender, again with a strong creamy garlic sauce that will give you a lovely garlic breath.

Calzone!!

As you enter The Place, you will be greeted by a vintage red telephone booth and a miniature London Eye as they are doing The Britannia Buffet from now until March!!!

I went here especially for the Yorkshire pudding because my favourite place for roast in Wanchai has closed.

Some items are on different nights so it is best to call and check to avoid disappointment.

Roasted rib eye is available from Sundays to Thurs while the Beef Wellington is available on Fridays and Saturdays, both served with Yorkshire pudding and homemade gravy, Guinness beef stew, Shepherds pie, scotch eggs and Toad in a hole.

As a Brit, I was more focused on the items above but they do have seafood for HKers such as the North Atlantic lobster baked with English cheddar, fish and chips, whole salmon with salt crust and Tri-coloured salmon.

In the desserts section, they had Spotted dick and Eton's mess

Here was all the yummy stuff I had but my favourites had to be the crisp and light Yorkshire pudding drowned in gravy, Shepherds pie and Scotch eggs.

The toad in a hole is a bit different because the appearance and the sausage is not quite the same as the one in UK but they probably sliced the sausages as it is easier to serve in a buffet.

For desserts there was spotted dick but looking slightly different as they used red berries.

Since my last visit, this place has been recommended by Michelin and there are some new items.To be honest, I had this at Christmas hence the Christmas decorations.
I had the new Custard puffs which were crispy and light filled with creamy vanilla custard in the middle.
I also had my favourite chougettes which are really delicious light puffs with crispy meringues bits stuck to it.

Now, they have a savoury version called gougeres which are a must for me because I love cheese.
Gougeres are baked savory choux pastry made of choux dough mixed with cheese.

Went here for tea because I was thirsty and the tea here is cheaper than other places.

With the self service points I am more willing to go to McDs now because I don't have to queue.

But when you collect your tea you have to check if it the right tea especially if you ordered the tea bag type because they automatically serve the HK style crap by default.

McDonalds has been doing different promotions for $10.

It was two hamburgers for $10 and the other day it was 9 nuggets for $10.
Although McDs is junk food, I went for the hamburgers instead of the nuggets offer because the nuggets are not 100% chicken meat but mixed with chicken skin and flour etc whereas the beef burger has a higher percentage of meat and it is lightly grilled as opposed to being fried.

So here were my two burgers, served hot with a reasonable amount of ketchup in it.

I love the food here so came back for it.

Unfortunately I came during lunch time so I couldn't order the main items on the menu.

Anyway, I had the lunch set which was a good deal because there was no 10% and it was delicious slices of beef with leeks and rice.

At Soupreme, as well as nourishing mushroom based soups [except MACA which is a root that is said to be an aphrodisiac] their dishes are also delicious.

You order by ticking the boxes on the sheet.
The staff are pretty helpful if you get stuck and one of the guys speak FRENCH too!

For the mains, there are rice vermicelli, Taiwanese noodles or rice and I chose the Taiwanese noodles.

To be honest, it tastes so good just mixing the mushroom sauce with the noodles because there is a lovely salty beany taste to it.

I wish I could buy this sauce.
For the side dishes, I got stewed oxtail with mushrooms and the tofu puffs with walnut flowers.

The meat was fresh and it comes off the bones easily attached with delicious gelatinous cartilage.

Tofu puffs with walnut flower:

I am not quite sure what walnut flower is so I googled it and it came up with flowers from wild walnuts in China.
The texture of the walnut flower was more like kelp. Although the whole dish doesn't look appetizing, it was sweet and delicious.

noodles with chicken:
The chicken was also soft and came off the bone easily and the noodles beneath it were delicious in that rich strong sauce that was used to braise the chicken.

To finish, I had the soups last not first because they were too hot to drink at the beginning and it fills me up if I drink it first.
I love the way, the soups are served in MUGS which give it a modern touch.

MACA:
Maca is a root and not a vegetable and this soup had a sweet taste.

cordecep flowers:
The taste of this one was nicer because it had a strong unami taste but the cordecep flowers are camouflaged with the carrots, but you can tell because they are not translucent like the carrots.

I can't wait to come here again however getting here is easy but getting out of Taikoktsui is troublesome.
