Second time dining at Babbo Trattoria

A few years ago there were not many good Italian dos, I used to like Fat Angelos and Amaroni’s but too many new restaurants have been opening that they have faded in my list.

Babbo Trattoria is located at Plaza 2000, which used to be a shabby mall that has recently been rennovated with PRADA on the ground floor.

The menu has changed quite a bit since it opened.

I was glad I was recommended the Insalata di formaggi because it really stole the show with lots of mixed cheese on top of the salad.

Thick and big pieces of cheese shavings, which looked like White chocolate, were piled on top of the salad.
After the sinful salad with lots of cheese, I had this other guilty dish Uova al forno in salsa piccante which was the Babbo bread served with a pot of Formaggio cheese on top of an egg which is mixed together infront of you for you to dip the bread in!

The bread itself was tasty and slightly salted so after dipping it in the molten mix of cheese and egg, it was just damn good!

Following that we had the pasta, which was Rigatoni alla trippa. The waiter recommended me this and the ox tripe sounded interesting.

It tasted like the usual tomato sauce but with pieces of ox tripe in it.

Last but not least we had the Karasumi spinach mozzarella tomato sauce grand padano pizza.
I loved it because there was lots of spinach and salty Karasumi.

For drinks finished with tea and coffee.

To celebrate the opening of this special new branch, they will be selling Wife cakes at $0.5 each from the 10th to the 12th of FEB.
The wife cakes are sweet with a nice chew to it.
They have scaled models of how the bakery looked in the 1930s.

Discovered this bar when I ventured into this new building near the WTC.

It looked like an office tower so I was not expecting a hip bar hiding on the third floor accessible by escalators which is good.
The decor had a funky fusion of Chinese old neon signs.

There was a great selection of drinks and some famous bites from Brooklyn such as the eggslut and Monte Cristo sandwiche which ABCs will love.

As we already had dinner, we got some light bites and drinks.

We had some cocktails outside where they have heaters and stylish table lamps.

My bittersweet cocktail was strong and I loved it because it was a mix of chocolate baileys and rum and kahlua.

It was decorated with rose petals and coffee beans on top with a thick foam cap.

They have Shisha as well.

After having drinks, went inside for food.

Here was what we had:

++++

HK salt and pepper fried siumai:

Who doesn't love siumai, these crispy fluffy siumai were seasoned with my favourite salt and pepper.

It also came with a dip but they were good enough without the dip.

++++

Carrot and cucumber with ranch dip:

I ordered this because I wanted something healthy and it was paired with this creamy truffle dip which they make themselves.

+++++

Hanoi fried spring rolls:

Delicious crispy spring rolls complimented by the spicy mayonnaise.

++++

To go with the bites, we had Earl grey tea, Lime soda and Kyuho grape soda.

The lime soda was extremely refreshing while the grape soda was visually pretty and sweet.

Price, cutlery, menu and food is almost identical to FLAT IRON in the UK.

Previously tried the beef sandwich at their TST kiosk which is fantastic but sadly, they changed the menu so that particular steak served in that sandwich is not available as a steak here.

Went for the ribeye which was quite tough and it had tendons in it.

Although the food was so so, the customer service was really good.

I regretted not going when they just opened but then it was fully booked for three months and there is still a big queue at the moment.

I never made it here before because when I see busy restaurants I usually go elsewhere.
Went here during CNY and it was empty.
Had two rice dishes which were fantastic, some of the rice dishes contain quinoa.
Definitely coming back so I have to pounce the moment when it is empty.
Portions are on the small side.

Got there at 6 because I thought they opened at 6 but it turns out to be 6.30.
Walked away which was a big mistake as when I returned at 6:30 there was a bloody long queue.
I dined in the evening because there is one particular dish that isn't there for lunch and it was the glass noodles in fermented beancurd sauce.
It was definitely worth coming for because the sauce is very strong and the noodles are really spicy.

Paua fritters are a traditional New Zealand dish made of minced black abalone (paua) coated in batter and fried.
Tried it because I was curious.
I couldn't quite find any minced abalone in the patty but it did have a fishy seaweed taste.
Not quite what I was expecting but at least I have tried it without travelling to NZ.
