Haven't been here for ages so decided to have lunch at The Cabin with my Brit friend.
I am glad the food was still consistently good and didn't let us down.
Went for lunch so I recommended the cottage pie to him but the other two dishes like fish pie and Lancashire lamb hotpot were also recommendable.
All three are annoyingly good.
Anyway, I had the fish burger with chips because it was not on the menu before.
REAL CHIPS served here.

I have been eating too much Japanese food lately, so had to eat some British food.
{Technically this is NZ style "Fush" and Chips but it still does the job!!!}
Went to White Beard fish and chips where I always go.
Ordered the battered oysters which are always consistently good.
Juicy oysters inside. It comes with a choice of dips which frankly is not required because it tastes good on its own but selecting ketchup would be wise to go with chips if you ordered any.
Also had gravy and chips with a beef and cheese pie.
I love chips and gravy.
Spotted this aged cheese sandwich so ordered that as well.
It was nice and cheesy.
My cravings were satisfied!!

Seeing lots of expats have visited this place I decided to go early one evening.
Luckily I got there at 6pm because it was full within an hour.
The menu is simple with appetizers, pastas and dessert.
There were four of us so we got a pasta each while we shared the starters.
It is really hard choosing a pasta because they have Gnocchi, ravioli, orecchiette, lasagne, tagliatelle, parpadelle and pici!!
We sat at the bar where we got a view of all the pasta being made and the cooking at the far end.
I seem to recognize one of the Chefs from Pirata.
Fresh hand rolled pici which looked like fat spaghetti being made:

Parma ham sliced to order:
Began with bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar while we were waiting.
Started with the burrata cheese which was creamy, soft and supple:
Next was the Chefs selection which was served on a board comprising of parma ham, salami, taleggio and parmesan.
You can evidently see the difference of freshly sliced parma ham because it is moist and radiant in colour.
Moving on the the warm starters, we had the meatballs which were made of pork, beef with tomato sauce.
They were big and tasty.
Now to the stars of the show, we had lasagne, ravioli, gnocchi and orecchiette
The gnocchi was one of the best I have had because the texture is not stodgy and there are bits of potato in it.
The ravioli was also exciting, there were two choices for ravioli so I chose the one with truffle because it was filled with delicious asparagus and shallots.
The filling was silky smooth complemented by the fragrant truffle.
My friend had the lasagne which was very hearty and meaty.
Last but not least was the nduja orecchiette which had a spicy touch to it while the orecchiette pasta pieces were al dente.
Despite being quite full we had the tiramisu which was a perfect end to the dinner.

When it arrived, the broth is bubbling because there is a pebble in the broth to keep the ramen hot while you're eating it.
The broth was thin but had a really strong garlic flavour that was quite bitter and the slice of pork was soft and fresh.

My favourite grilled mackerel was moist and silky with a lovely salted taste.
It was so good that I ordered a rice to go with it.

Decor was spot on looking like a real American diner.
Menu was spot on with grilled cheese, hot dogs etc.
BUT!!!!
The food was such a disappointment.

It was just toast with cheese in the middle but at least the cheese wasn't fake.
The Minute beef steak sandwich was not edible because the steak was super tough and chewy. It seems like it had been in the freezer for decades with its moisture dehydrated and the onions were not caramelized enough.

Previously came here when they newly opened so there were not many options!
Now there are so many choices that it is hard to decide.
One of the interesting dishes was the Sweet and sour konjac which I didn't order.

One of the must order dishes is the eggless omelette.
To be honest, I didn't realize it was eggless until I looked at the photo of menu, but it was good because it was just made of beancurd skin, beanshoots and mushrooms.

It tasted exactly like egg but slightly softer and runnier with a slight thick stickiness to it.
The only let down was that it was a bit too oily, also mentioned in another English review.
Next was the siumai which was soft because it had a lot of vegetables in it.

The Sichuan mouth watering mock chicken tasted better than I expected because it was crispy and the beany sauce was fragrant with a touch of Sichuan pepper but it was a bit too salty.
Then there was crispy red beancurd monkey mushrooms which tasted like fried red beancurd chicken wings which are my favourites, so I naturally liked it!!
