After trying this traditional layered cake at LinHeungLau, I decided to come here and try it here as well.
Tried the crispy and steamed prawn dumplings. The steamed version was actually pretty good because the prawn was springy and sweet.
The crispy version and the fried items at this restaurant did not fare so well because the oil was a bit old hence all ther fried items had a rancid taste.
The steamed custard buns were quite good with a runny filling that was not too sweet.
The layer cake could have been better because I couldn't taste any of the dessicated coconut and there was too much egg yolk which made it too rich. There was also pork lard in it which ruined it.
The fried pumpkin and taro cake was really good especially the mushy pumpkin, however it was way too salty.
The egg tarts were good but again the pork lard ruined it.

lured here because there are so many teas.
they even have coriander tea! hmmmmm
i've got to try the melon tea next time.
the cream teas are captivating as well with a choice of durian, sweet potato or taro.
anyway i went for the celery tea this time which was really nice because it wasn't sweetened and it had a great bitter taste.

Went here for Jasmine tea and it turns out there are two types of Jasmine tea, green jasmine or pearl white.
I had the Jasmine green tea which has a strong flowery aroma with a nice bitter aftertaste.
It interesting that there will be some people who will sit at Pacific Coffee without buying drinks for at least half an hour.

To summarize the Mac n Cheese is damn good and there are four choices: Lobster, four cheese, potato and mustard chicken or truffle.
I tried the mustard chicken because it had some mash in it as well so it had a lovely silky cheesy texture because of the mash.
The mustard gives it a lovely salty taste which works well with the cheese.
There was a new pizza selection with a choice of mozzarella ox tongue or gorgonzola duck with walnuts.
I ordered gorgonzola which is a strong blue cheese as opposed to tasteless mozzarella.
However I was a bit disappointed because I not could taste or see any gorgonzola on the duck pizza.

anyway, I am definitely coming back for the other Mac n Cheeses.

Went here to avoid the Festival Walk crowd and I was in for a surprise.

I ordered the luncheon ham laksa macaroni which turned out to be delicious.
It was not an authentic laksa broth base because there was a strong tomato taste with hint of coconut but it was surprisingly addictive.
The macaroni was decent as well, it was soft but still al dente with a good thickness.


I was impressed with the ham as well because it was chopped up and not served as a slice.

The beanshoots in it was weird though but it didn't annoy me.

Came here because I heard so many good comments from friends who don't use openrice.
They serve pastas which they make themselves and tasty steaks.
It was hard deciding between lasagne and ravioli but luckily the lasagne was sold out which helped me to decide.
The ravioli was really healthy and delicious crammed with lots of spinach in a yummy tomato sauce.

The steak was juicy and tender topped with finely diced earthy mushrooms.

It was accompanied with heavenly truffle fries.
Finished with a satisfying tiramisu because it was creamy and thick.


Tea is a must at the end of the meal but choosing the tea was a hard choice because there were five choices.
Earl grey, minty strawberry, milk oolong, sunny grape and green tropicana.

I decided to finish it the traditional way with Earl Grey so that I can come back and try the other teas next time.
A great place to dine in the evenings after the office crowd has gone.

I love Ootoya because the food is authentic as lots of Japanese people dine there and the Chefs are Japanese.
The only difficulty I have is the menu, it is quite difficult to comprehend and it is in a similar format to Coco Ichibanya so I wonder if they belong to the same group.
I ordered the hijiki seaweed rice with an appetizer containing all the slimy stuff like moutain yam, natto beans, egg yolk, okra and tofu.
It doesnt have much taste but I find it comforting like baby food.
Adding soy sauce improves the taste.
