Mochi bread
2017-11-28 707 瀏覽
Unfortunately, I needed to grab something quick for food and only this place in Central didn't have a queue so went here.
As well as jacket potatoes made from bread, they also had real jackets at the back.
The eggs were the best, I love the shape.
Anyway got the strawberry mochi bread as I like chewy textures.
Sadly it was a square block of bread which was hollow in the middle filled with sweet custard and a blob of mochi.
The top of the bread was garnished with jam.
If it was just jam and bread, the taste would be more forgivable but it was a bit too buttery like a croissant so I didn't like it.

Tried the maple latte series.
There was toasted almond or this one.
Anyway, got this one which had a strong coffee taste.
I prefer toasted almond maple latte over the pink salt because I couldn't quite taste the pink salt.
Decided to try the new maple series because I love maple.
There were two to choose from which made decisions difficult.
One was pink salt and the other was toasted almond.

Once in a while I like to come here for burgers because I like the location, right on the corner.
As usual fish and the mushroom are my picks but this time decided to have beef as well.
The beef was surprisingly good, the patty was juicy and beefy complemented by the gherkins.
The fishburger is flawless, a good balance of veggies while the fish has a crisp coating and the fish is flakey inside.
What I like about their mushroom burger is that it is very meaty with the same ingredients as the beef except that it is vegetarian.
The staff are always helpful and help you to cut the burgers in half for easy sharing.

Having tried most of the eateries on High Street, decided to try this was one out. When I sat down, I realized I have seen the guy before at THE DEN, so I knew that the beef dishes were going to be good because they have great steaks at THE DEN.
The menu here is quite different, I liked the variety because they had fish and chips, scotch eggs but then they had Peruvian dishes as well.
Started with the grapefruit soda which is made with real grapefruit.
For starters, it was difficult to choose because all of them seemed good.
So in the end had the scotch eggs which were crispy on the outside with soft and juicy pork meat and oozing yolk.
The Wagyu beef empanadas were fab and I loved the different sauces beneath them,
The purple one was a punchy olive.
Also tried their homemade Tabasco sauce which has a very strong capsicum smell with a fiery kick.
The juicy mini sliders were also good, packed with cheese and sauces.
For mains, had the Wagyu beef bolognese which was simple with rich tomato sauce and decent beef.
The roast duck parpadelle was interesting because of the Sichuan Mushrooms, which look like truffles!
It was creamy and wonderful.
Sichuan mushrooms:
Finished with the chocolate lava cake which was a sweet end to dinner.
Also had the grilled asparagus and halloumi, a great appetizer because of the chimichurri sauce.
Hope to see PERUVIAN DONUTS on the menu next time!~

A decent two course lunch

For lunch, I liked the simplistic two course set.You just choose a salad/soup with a mains.
It is quite pricey but the food quality is good so it is a great place to go with clients.
Started off with the apple and walnut salad which was fairly big and hearty.
The beef tenderloin was huge and it turned out photogenic because it came with purple mash, roasted vegetables.
It was a nice cut of beef which was meaty and tender while the vegetables were a good balance to it.

[Review 6302] Comforting food at de België @ De België

Previously tried Belgica in K Town so I knew the mussels were going to be good here because it is part of the same group.
de België is on the corner of Elgin Street looking small on the outside but spacious once you venture in.
That night, we had a bit of everything because they have other dishes as well as my beloved mussels.
Started with the Tomato aux crevettes and the pulpo a la gallega.
The Tomato aux crevettes were tender translucent shrimps in a delicious dressing encased in a tomato.
The pulpo a la gallega was tasty slices of octopus tentacle on top of new potato slices sprinkled with chili and paprika on a bed of creamy aioli.
It was a great start followed by the mussels.
Again, it was hard to choose because you could choose from mussels cooked in wine, beer etc.
I went for the beer as I was after strong flavours.
It was a huge pot of mussels served with their homemade fries that are fried twice to get that lovely texture.
The mussels were sweet infused with beer and they were free from grit and beard.
While I was eating them I thought I was lucky that the mussels were beard free but later the Chef told me they had removed the beard before cooking you can just enjoy them.
After the mussels, I had the herb roasted chicken.
The chicken was really comforting because it tasted how a roast chicken should taste, ie fully flavoured by the herbs as they were rubbed evenly and it was roasted just right.
The vegetables that came with it were fantastic because they were cooked thoroughly and flavoured in honey, something difficult in HK because the potatoes are normally too hard as the Chefs just grill them to save time.
Had a sweet ending which is hard in Hong Kong because it is really hard to get proper Western desserts.
The Waffle was done just right because it was not too sweet as the sweetness of the cream complemented it nicely and the Chantilly cream was fluffy and airy.
If you drink, I seriously recommend the coconut beer which I tried at the Belgica [other branch]!

Previously tried the Wanchai branch and I love their gyozas that I went to the HH branch. The standard is not consistent at the branch because the gyozas taste better in the day when the oil is still fresh.
The thick cut bacon was a bit disappointing because it was too fat, I was hoping for something like Gammon ham.
Anyway, the rest was good especially the beef which taste like Shanghai potstickers but much nicer because the dumpling skin is thinner so you taste the beef more.
The chocolate ones were an interesting experience.
Crispy oozing with chocolate.
The gyozas with cheese and tomato were ok and reminded me of tortellini but filled with chicken.
The mentaiko and potato are my favourite and I always order them.
