Second Sawali Club joint

Tried Sawali Club in Wanchai last year at a Feb birthday gathering when Chiangmy was there.
Decided to try the new branch at CWB and it was just as good but we ate different dishes this time.
I was so glad to see the fermented red beancurd glass vermicelli and it was super spicy, it was spicier than this other joint in WC.
The boat noodles were fab and the portion was big.
The fried pork skin was delicious because it was freshly fried without any rancid taste.
The stir fried cabbage was ordered as we wanted a balanced dinner with vegetables.
Quite garlicky with a strong prawn paste taste.

Only tried this place because of the curry fish maw.
The curry was too spicy.
The fish maw was rather disappointing because it was rancid and it tasted like pig's skin so I wonder if it really was fish maw at all.
The chicken was dry and hard, but it was just there to make the dish worth the price because they can't just give you fish maw only!~

Chongqing spicy hotpot

I knew the hotpot was going to be super spicy here because it is Chongqing style but I tried it as it was tempting. The real do in China has different broth to oil ratio because they have modified the ratio to make it healthier.
In China, it is roughly 60% oil and 40% broth while in Hong Kong it is reversed as the people here are health conscious and the oil is not recycled.
The spiciness is really spicy, so I suggest getting both broths and use the non spicy broth to boil the ingredients and use the spicy pot like a chili dip so you get your acquired spiciness level.
Normally desserts are last but here you get it first which makes sense because the sweetness prepares you for the spiciness.
The Cow's stomach lining can be seen grey as it has not been bleached.
An array of ingredients we ordered for the hotpot.
The fish was amazing, it was slightly salted and it came off the bones easily so fish is a must order for me and the vegetables and tofu skin.

Great vegetarian fare but unfortunately located in a factory building. From starter to dessert, the food was fabulous.
Began with quinoa and fruits which was light and refreshing.
Next was the soup which had a really strong unami flavour because of the mushrooms.
The huge slice of mushroom was pleasing like a big steak.
The vegetarian burger was quite filling.
The main dish was avocado fried rice which I really enjoyed because it was different and there were fragrant hints of coconut oil which strangely went well with the cabbage in the rice.
Finished with dessert which surprised me because it had marshmallow and mochi in it which gave it an interesting texture.
A lovely meal but I was still quite hungry afterwards.

Went here for a quick lunch.
I like the location of this restaurant, hidden at the basement.
Overall, the dishes had a Chinese twist to it.
The stir fried Viet noodles were basically like Cantonese stir fried noodles replaced with Cambodian noodles.
For me, I had the crab paste and tomato noodles which strangely had mince pork on top and tasted like Chinese style Borscht soup!
The salad was ok but quite sweet.

MK is famous for weird shat and fusion and this place offered just that so went here to check it out because they had flat rice noodles cooked in a Western style.I read about the mock shark fin soup with fake abalone and sea cucumber which I thought would be photo worthy but the menu didn't illustrate that for the meal add on, it is not the full portion hence the add on soup was not worth me taking a picture.
The rest of the food was good but tiny portions.
They have selected a decent flat rice noodle that is firm and not sweet naturally.

If you like Thai food, I think this is a great place for hotpot because the appetizer, dessert and drinks cabinet is all you can eat including chicken, Thai salad, etc.
For the main hotpot broth, you get a choice of Thai style soups such as tom yum kung, coconut chicken, curry etc.
I chose two because it is only $10 more for two different pots.
For me, the best bit were the noodles because they have Thai Mama noodles and Cambodian noodles which I had first before the broth get oily.
With the Cambodian noodles, I like the way, the softness of the noodles is up to me.
It was nice eating out of bamboo bowls for a change.
Both noodles were good but I prefer the Instant noodles.
After having the noodles, it was time for the beef and seafood.
You get half a grey mullet which goes nicely in the tomyumkung as the strong broth balances the strong flavour of this fish.
The huge oysters didn't shrink in the hotpot and they had a very strong taste to it.
As well as the hotpot I was really satisfied with the appetizer bar so I hope to come again soon.
For drinks had the fizzy cucumber which was refreshing and soothes the spicy food.
