A bright star on Hollywood Road

If you know me, I have an obsession with stars or anything that shines.Well this place just got my attention after shopping at Marks and Spencers.
The decor is nice and bright with a green and orange theme.
Looking at the menu, it was nice and defined yet concise because you have noodles, salads, drinks etc and dessert.

As I wanted to try everything, I decided to order a noodle, banh mi, salad and dessert.
Started with drinks.
The Avocado smoothie is a must for me, it was nice how it wasn't too sweet so you could taste the unami of the avocado.

My friend had the ice lime tea which tastes different to your usual tea.
It is hard to describe the taste but to me it tasted like Cadbury's Turkish delight with a hint of lipstick.

Started with the goi nom bo which is salad with banana blossom .
The salad is refreshing and complex in taste. It had all the tastes you could imagine from being sweet, sour, bitter and spicy.
Banana blossom is also good for your health too which you can google for more info!
Next was the bun rieu, the broth was great with a strong crab taste taste and the herbs were well balanced.
The noodles were a bit like rice vermicelli and soaked the broth well.
If you have been to Sisombath , the noodles are quite similar to the noodles served there.
Next was the bahn mi.
The baguette was so good because it was light and crispy and the filling was simple but delicious.
It had pate, three different meat slices, cilantro and their specially made sauce which gave it that lovely sweet and spicy kick.
This baguette is definitely worth sinking your teeth into because it is imported from Vietnam to guarantee a good quality baguette..
Finished with the dessert which I was also anticipating.
On the bottom layer is pandan jelly, the middle layer is coconut granite topped with coconut icecream.
The star of the dessert was the coconut granite which is pure coconut water that you can taste so it was a brilliant way to end the meal.

Shame on HK dimsum

As I was in Macau with friends, they decided to go yumcha the next morning.
I didn't have any expectations because 99% of the dimsum in Hong Kong is crap, yet dimsum represents Hong Kong.
The 1% of delish dimsum goes to Dragon i, YumCha and Social Palace because there is quality control to some extent.
It really makes me wonder what tourists think of HK dimsum because the quality and taste is definitely better in UK and other countries according to ABCs and CBCs.
I think we had about 8 dimsums here and nearly every dish was good.
Just judging by appearance, they were neat and not oily and by taste, they tasted really good because it wasn't too oily and sweet.
My favourite was the beancurd sheet and gingko congee.
A simple but difficult congee to taste good because it was creamy all the way through and you could taste the gingko which was soft and creamy, while the beancurd sheets were soft but intact.
Definitely coming here to gorge out again and we were lucky we sat in a quiet area as yumcha can get quite noisy or perhaps HKer are just plain right noisy.
Shame on Hong Kong food which is just full of oil, msg and sugar that it really inspires me to become and chef in HK and cook shiit especially on the dark side of Kowloon where you don't get any service at all.

Went here as I was in the area and was still hungry.It is obvious that not many people have ordered the loaded fries because the guacamole is oxidized on the surface and probably has been sitting in the fridge longer than it should have.
The lady next to me also asked me what the green stuff was so I think it is a good indicator that the people in this area are not that adventurous.
Anyway, the so called salsa sauce on the fries is just sauce with a touch of BBQ and Cajun so it doesn't contain fresh tomatoes but then McDs hardly ever uses fresh tomatoes in its ingredients.
Everything tasted ok but I got the shxits the next day.

The coconut tart is something that I haven't tried at STO so got one.
It has a short crust pastry base filled with a curd like filling.
There isn't much coconut taste except the dessicated coconut on top but it tastes quite sweet.
Looking forward to other desserts.

I have been longing try this pistachio cake at this place so finally ordered it.There was no pistachio taste and the cake was like dry sand.
The pistachio cream was nasty, it tasted like face cream in the way that it doesn't dissolve and the dense paste just lubricates your mouth and it required several sips of hot tea to wash it down.
The drink options are poor because they only serve HK style drinks but luckily they had Jasmine tea which turned out ok.

Everywhere was packed so went here.
I got it confused with this other Taiwanese place in CWB because when you type 古早 on OR, it will come up with two restaurants 古早牛肉麵 and 古早味台灣原味.
Regretted not ordering the Oyster Mee Sua because it is difficult to find restaurants that serves them.
They used to be popular but not anymore.
Anyway, had the noodles with fried chicken.
The chicken was not too salty and but not crispy enough even though it looked crispy.
It was a bit soggy.
The noodles which came with spicy sauce was good but the sauce was too sweet for my liking.

Found out about this place through a friend, the name Bistroholic sounded really familiar.
It turns out that it is run under the Coffeeholic group in Sheung Wan, hence the name.
When you get there, you are greeted with this modern bar table by the window with flamingoes and a mini leaning tower of Pisa at the other end of the room.

The menu was really good with a wide variety.
Here was what we had:
++++++
Sweet corn soup bisque with salted caramel popcorn:
I loved the way, the soup was sweetcorn all the way through with sweet corn soup bisque paired with popcorn which is also made of popcorn.
It had a lovely sweet touch from the caramel on the popcorn, so sweet or savoury popcorn would both work and it just makes the soup a fun part of dinner.

+++++++
Next were the Chicken wings stuffed with Taiwanese sausage and prawn.
Interesting combination!
The chicken skin was so crispy that they cracked when you put your fork in them which was brilliant as there isn't much fat underneath the skin.
++++
The Matsusaka pork confit with smoked romaine salad was another surprise.
I am not a fan of pork, but the pork here is thinly sliced, tender and silky seasoned well by the truffle and has an aromatic smoky flavour to it complimented by the air dried apples.
+++++
For pasta we had the Spaghetti marinara with Argentina red prawn with mussels and Taiwanese peeled jalapeno.
The pasta was al dente and the Taiwanese peeled Jalapenos gave a lovely tangy punch with a spicy kick to it.
+++++++++
We also had the Pan seared Hokkaido scallops risotto with sea urchin prawn jus.
This was seriously rich with uni and prawn jus but I liked it.
+++++
Slow Cooked Iberico Pork with Anchovy Tomato Jus:
The Iberico pork was lovely and juicy as it was slow cooked and it went really well with the tasty Anchovy tomato sauce.
I liked the mash and grilled vegetables that came with it because it makes it complete.
++++
Finished with Tiramisu which is light and moreish as it is soft and creamy just how it should be with an alcoholic soaked sponge in the middle.
At the moment if you book through FB, you get truffle seasoning, truffle pate and a cash coupon when you dine there. (whilst stocks last).
