Korean lunches
2018-02-24 168 瀏覽
Finally there is a place in HH for some Korean food that isn't fried or grilled.
They have some great lunch options which are quick and filling including a drink.
The beef short rib is sweet but the broth is rather oily.
The spicy tofu seafood fared better and you get a big piece of tofu.
The broth is very spicy and for the seafood you get clams, prawns and enoki mushrooms.
The fizzy drinks are quite syrupy and sweet which soothes the spiciness.
But as with all Korean food, I find it sweet and spicy which is so different to the Korean food in UK and there is even a Korean town in London just like China Town where the K-food there was surprisingly good.

[1935] Sichuan Food with Romanticism
2018-02-24 477 瀏覽
I love Sichuan food and found out about this place because one of my foodie friends AL was at 1935.
It is located in Central where I always hang out.
When you get there, you are greeted with decor looking like a train which somehow reminds me Chung King express and 2046 hence not your usual Sichuan decor.
This setting isn't a scene from of a movie but a real life story because the name 1935 is in remembrance of the owner's grandmother who sadly passed away before this place opened.
A lot of their time together was spent travelling on the train hence the decor.
Looking at the menu, the dish names are wonderfully named in Chinese but you can't really express it the same way in English so the English menu is down to earth and tells you whats in it.
There is a story behind every dish and beverage and the wintermelon is about White Jade which I got confused in Chinese as it sounded like bak yuk which I thought was Shanghai style sliced white meat but it actually meant white jade.
Started with the cocktails which were fun and different.
The [Yomeishu] was appetizing and presented in a Chinese tea cup.

The [Carnation Says] was fresh and graceful with a pink carnation floating on top.

For appetizers, here was what we had:
+++
Chilled Free Range Chicken, Truffle, Coriander:
The chicken was lean, soft and moreish because they use chilled free range chicken infused with a mushroomy truffle and crispy garlic pieces complemented by the Coriander and Chinese celery.

+++
Crispy okra, Yam, Salted Egg Yolk:
Okra and Yam are healthy but they made it evilicious by coating them with thick salted egg yolk and frying it.
I thought it was really smart to pair these vegetables together because both okra and yam are viscous hence it is like eating salted semi raw yolk in your mouth because of the viscous texture and salted egg yolk coming together.

+++
Next was the braised winter melon with conpoy, double boiled chicken stock.
I was really looking forward to this because it looks like a bunch of grapes.
Each piece of wintermelon was a perfect sphere and it was soft and mushy in delicious light chicken stock gravy.

+++
Poached King Prawns, Celtuce, Sichuan Peppercorn broth:
This dish was heavenly and recommended for people who like the tingling sensation feeling without the heat.
It was guilt free eating this dish because there isn't any MSG while the gravy and springy prawns really go down well with rice especially that light gravy.
0 讚好
+++
Poached Giant Garoupa Fillet, Sichuan Chili Fish Broth:
The poached fish can be eaten in two ways because the broth is pure fish soup that you can drink.
0 讚好
+++
Wok Fried Australian M4 Wagyu Cube, Ginger, Sichuan Pepper, Honey:
For beef lovers, this is a great dish in a sweet and gingery sauce with a spicy punch!
The cubes of beef are not well done, hence it is locked with juice and lots of myoglobin which I used to think was blood!
+++
The last dish we had was this cute pot of Dan Dan Noodles!
The broth was rich and each strand hung the broth well however I found it a little sweet though.
+++
Before ordering the desserts, the 1935Beer is a sweet soothing drink to finish with and the cream on the top is the best!
[1935Beer-Vanilla/Caramel/Cream/Ginger Beer]

+++
The colourless jelly is always a must at the end of any Sichuan meal.
As it is tasteless, it is often flavoured with syrup but here they have sweetened it with lemongrass and citrus.
+++
To summarize, the location is great because it is in Central and I like the decor.
In terms of food, this is the first Sichuan dinner that I didn't feel overloaded and bogged down by sodium, MSG and oil and the food is almost like home cooked dishes with restaurant quality.
The lunch is also worth recommending because you can also order those dishes.

Tangerine Peel Latte

Aged Mandarin peel is a bit like citrus peel, hence they go well with sweet things like Xmas puddings.Pacific Coffee have come up with Tangerine peel latte, where the tangerine peels are supplied by Yiu Feng in Causeway Bay.
Apparently, this joint is quite well known but I only found out about this store because of the cat they own.
The taste of the tangerine peel is quite interesting, perhaps I am used to dishes with tangerine peel hence it kept making me think of cooked dishes.
For CNY, they had these cute cakes but Carrot Cake is definitely my pick.

As a fan Sijie, this branch is brilliant, it is a bit of a trek but you don't have to wait for lifts, however the security guard wasn't around when I tried to go in the building.
It is a new restaurant so you can still smell solvents which should hopefully disappear in a few months time.
The menu structure is still the same.

However, some choices have gone like the beer duck so I don't know if this menu is the same as the one in CWB.
For the appetizers, I had the bitter melon and Sichuan cold noodles.
The noodles are as good as ever, they are not as spicy as they look.

The bittermelon was cooked just right so it didn't have that raw grassy taste and crunch.
It was heavily seasoned though because it was quite salty.

For mains, had the Kung Po Chicken which was sweeter than I expected.
Ordered this for my friend who couldn't eat spicy dishes.
It was like mixed celtuce, squid and other vegetables in a light tomato gravy.
On the side, there are some rice crispy crackers for dipping the gravy.
Last but not least was the Mao Xue Wang (mo huet wong).
This was mega spicy so I think I will stick to ordering the usual spicy tofu which isn't as spicy compared to this!

In almost every town by the sea, there is a pier with amusement arcades and food but sadly the one at my town was lost due a fire a few years ago which was reported on the News.Anyway, I was lured here by the picture of the pier but sadly they don't seem to know which pier it was even though they used it.
For sure, the pier is definitely not Eastbourne, Brighton, Bournebouth, Southend by Sea or Margate.
They specialize in Fish and Chips but initially I got it confused with this other one in Taiwan because it is also called Jason's so I find it rather strange they do not have a FB or IG account to differentiate themselves.
I wanted to try the Fish and Chips but the video on Social Media put me off because it was too burnt but not burnt in HK terms.
Golden in British cooking is golden whereas Golden in HK terms is burnt in a English perspective!
Try asking for hairstylist for purple hair and gold hair and your'll get ugly magenta and a nasty mousy orange.
Anyway, just had the chips and purposely ask for it to be fried lightly.
Extra Vinegar is charged.
It is impressive that they have news wrap beneath the chips but as expected the chips were too crunchy for my liking.
Every single damn chips was too crunchy and there wasn't a fluffy centre.
Portion was big but too big when it isn't delicious!

Since my last visit, there are other goodies like cakes, cheesecakes and gelato spaghetti.My new favourite is the red velvet cake.
The texture of the cake is quite dense and hard compared to other cakes and the cream is very stiff like buttercream but I don't think it is buttercream.
The oreo is sweeter so I prefer the Red Velvet more.
Also tried the froyo and the reason I tried it is because they have cream.
I like to add fresh cream to everything if possible!!

Didn't realize this was a new restaurant.
Anyway, tried this because someone got it.
It is a Pandan Swiss Roll but you can't taste any Pandan flavouring except visually see the green colouring.
As for the taste, it just likes like the usual Vanilla Chinese Swiss Roll but the weird Salty Sweet cream in the middle is more overpowering.
I am cautious to say it is not buttercream because Hong Kong uses a different recipe and most places use that nasty margarine which is not butter!
