Ramen as well as Tsukemen
2018-05-05 32 瀏覽
I KNOW THIS PLACE IS FAMOUS FOR TSUKEMEN but I actually went there for the Tonkotsu ramen because they serve the ramen I like.It came in this thick broth which had a strong pork broth taste.
The ramen soaked up the broth nicely so I was really satisfied and the broth tasted so concentrated like it had been there for days using the same broth continuously topped up.
The eel with rice was just the usual so I recommend the tonkatsu or the tsukemen.
Also had the rice with cheese.
The cheese was not cheddar and it appeared to be mixed with some butter and milk powder.
Basically Asian style cheese like the stuff you get with Korean grills so that it looks like you are eating cheese but it's not even cheesy!

Met up with a friend here so had some food.
I had the chicken tikka pizza because I didn't feel like having those all day breakfasts.
It was surprisingly good because there was quite a lot of chicken on it and it was all white meat.
You could also taste some slight yoghurt in it too.

Chinese Tea and Cronuts

A while ago, I was tempted to try their cronuts but there was a juicy fat black fly hovering over every donut which put me off.
I was in MK again and the black thing wasn't there this time so I went in for the cronuts.
These cronuts and flavours are exactly the same ones at Queen Sophie so they either get it from the same supplier or QS is their supplier.
Anyway, I got three flavours: Passionfruit, Cinnamon and Caramel.
Honestly I should have just got one first because all three were just Chinese style CRUNCHY like chips etc.
They don't have soft and crispy textures or perhaps the Chinese just like CRISPY and CRUNCHY textures.
The Passionfruit fared better while the other two were too sweet so I got the oolong tea.
For the tea, I was deciding between the Cold Brewed Siji Oolong and the Jinxuan oolong.
Ended up getting the Jinxuan oolong which was more impressive than the tasteless teas at Cha Long and it was cheaper as well.
It had a nice aromatic grassy oolong taste but somehow I think I have bought this oolong tea bag somewhere because you can tell that tea bag was not one that they put tea leaves in house but it was already sealed beforehand.
Or it could be tea supplied by Sophie.
Overall the cronuts were disappointing and the customer services was too laid back and they didn't really give a toss.

While all the other joints at Food Lane have been running for a month, this joint has just opened recently.
It has an attractive open kitchen where you see a stack of roujiama buns.
I love roujiamas and they had modern ones like Thai style, Japanese style etc.
They also have pan fried dumplings, dimsum and these TaiShan inspired ricerolls.
I ordered the plain rice rolls with spring onions to see if they were anything like Full Congee and this other joint at Kai Tak.
This is what I got after a 20 minute wait.
To be honest they looked nothing like the Taishan rolls or the product shot.
The rolls were not thin, elastic and translucent but the usual ricerolls shaped to look like them!!
The spring onions on the ricerolls were supposed to enhance the taste but they did the exact opposite because they were evidently raw, grassy and bitter.
If only you could imagine chewing a bunch of green spring onions straight from someone's shopping bag from the wet market!!!!
The soy sauce that was given with it was dead sweet and the aroma from the polystyrene box was amazingly strong that it gets infused in the ricerolls.
Overall, wonderful!!!
The steamed bun was slightly better but too soggy even though I already took it out of the bag asap.

Drawn blood! Drawn here by the ducks blood

I was drawn here by the spicy ducks blood, by that I mean the duck blood captivated me here.
You can also literally draw blood, not using a pen but using a needle, ie phlebotomy if you get the right vein!
It turns out that this is the second branch and it is bigger and better.
There are more choices at this branch whereas the KwunTong one is more traditional.
This noodle joint is famous for the spoon of chili sauce which I thought tasted like the sauce you find in Taiwanese noodles that you mix together without the soup.
The toppings were impressive and it was hard making up my mind because they had so many new choices but the squid tentacles were a popular pick and they were springy.
The star of the show was the spicy ducks blood, they taste just as good as they ones in the hotpot and the best thing is you can just order them a la carte here.
Next time I am going to try the noodles without soup with their signature chili sauce.
The pig trotters are recommended as they were springy and flavourful.
My friend who had the pig skins and intestines was very impressed because she said it tasted like the toppings in the old days.
I didn't grow up in Hong Kong so I wouldn't know but the taste was good.
Definitely coming back again for noodles without the broth!

Abalone is a supreme delicacy to the Chinese yet there are not many abalone specialists in Hong Kong.
Fu Ho restaurant is Michelin starred and headed by Ar Yung who is an expert in Abalone. That night we went there for a gathering and I finally got to try the abalone and other delectable dishes.
Began with the braised Yoshihama abalone with 30 heads.
Starting from the edge of the abalone and working towards the middle, the abalone was tender to chewy with a stronger taste towards the centre in this wonderful unami abalone gravy.
Next was the soup which was light yet crammed with so much crabmeat, bamboo piths and springy fish maw.
It is flavourful and didn't need any vinegar.
The fish were battered in two ways, one was in salty golden egg yolk and the other was wrapped in celery contrasted by the crunchy fruit salad.
The crab was one of my favourite as it was braised with wintermelon.
The chunky pieces of wintermelon were the star of the show as it had absorbed all the essence and oozed out when you ate it.
The chicken had an evenly crisp skin which was fragrant while the chicken was tender.
Next was the soup which was very pleasing because of the huge ark clam which made the vegetables and broth really sweet.
For the last course, it was vegetable fried rice.
It was good to have some filling carbs which was meatless so that it wasn't too heavy.
The dessert was a surprise because I assumed it was going to be very sweet which is typical of Chinese desserts but the syrup was served separately.
It was good I could have the double boiled birds nest in almond cream without the syrup as it was healthy and the almond taste was more prominent.
There were also steamed dumplings but i was too full to try them.
To summarize, I really appreciate how this restaurant has kept its traditional abalone recipes and this is the place to go for ABALONE!
