A decent joint for food
2018-07-05 276 瀏覽
From North Point to Tin Hau, it is really difficult to find any decent joints for Western food unless you go to Tai Hang.
Luckily I stumbled across this place as I was having ramen next door.
They serve lots of home made pastas like gnocchi but it was sold out so I ended up having the fish.
Started with salad which was ok.

My fish was definitely good and made up for the gnocchi because it was fresh Barramundi which was silky and the skin was crispy that I ate it all.
To be honest, the fish was so damn good on its own seasoned with salt.
Beneath it was this delicious mash made with fresh potatoes which you can actually tell as there are lumps of potato.
The ratatoulle on top of the fish was also good because it was strong flavours with olives.

The flat iron steak was a surprise as you don't often have this in HK as it hasn't become popular yet but very popular and commonly found in UK.

The beef was juicy and flavourful.
Finished with the pistachio gelato which was freshly made in house.
I simply loved it because the texture and taste was wonderful.
They also provide ionised table water.
I can't wait to come back for pastas and other icecreams because I heard they had freshly made peach gelato.

There are now two branches of Q1.
The first joint in Shamshuipo is tiny and now the second one is bigger and better.
As I was in the area, I decided to go there for the desserts but they were sold out.
Spotted the avocado bun so decided to try it.
Tried to ask what type of bun they use and the lady weirdly pointed to the buns in the bag.
Anyway, I decided to get it anyway assuming it would be avocados in the bun but it turned out to be bahn mi filled with avocado.
Overall, it was really good because the baguette bun was crispy with a chew and the avocados were ripe.

Went to Pret again and this time had the Posh Cheddar & Pickle Baguette. It contains Mature cheddar with slow-cooked Pret Pickle, roasted tomatoes, freshly sliced red onions, a touch of mayo and snipped shoots of baby cress.
The taste was really good because the cheddar was nice and sharp and the roasted tomatoes were strong in flavour almost like sundried tomatoes.
The only let down was the baguette because it was rather tough.

Although Dragon boat festival and zhongzhis are over, at Verde Mar they now have Mexican Dumplings called Tamales.
There is a vegetarian one and meat one where you can choose to have it steamed or fried.
I went for the steamed vegetarian one which is nice and healthy filled with cactus and sweetcorn.
Tamales are basically fillings covered in corn dough, wrapped in a corn husk which is then steamed or fried to eat.
As well as the Tamale, I also had Tortilla soup which was rich in tomato and the cheese in it was delicious topped with lots of Tortillas.
It was a wholesome soup with all those ingredients in it.
The Agua Chili shrimp was refreshing on a hot day, their zesty lime dressing is so appetizing and moreish.
For drinks, you can't miss out on the cactus juice or avocado milkshake which are both healthy choices.
The cactus juice is lighter and tastes a little bit like apple juice.
Since my last visit, there are so many new pinatas and for those who haven't been to Mexico, there is a nice booklet with a brief intro about Mexican food.

Time flies, it has been three years since I last visited.
Dined there and the menu was extensive.
Tried two soups because not many places serve soup.
The soto ayam was very comforting because it was like Western soup but stronger.
0 讚好
The oxtail soup was more hearty.
A popular dish was the beef rendang, the chunks of beef were soft and full of flavour with a hint of lemongrass.
For the main dish, had the Nasi kuning where there was a bit of everything.
It was quite spicy but went well with the lemongrass rice.
My favourite was the Tempeh which is interesting because it is famous all over the world especially with Vegetarians because you can get Tempeh Bacon and people use it in bagels.
The tempeh was fried nicely with a light coating.
Finished with the cendol and Indonesian sweets.
Both were as good as my first visit in 2015.

I had a great experience at Yeungsumdin (養心殿) hotpot so decided to try their noodle joint in Wanchai.
At the noodle joint they have the same hotpot ingredients as choices for the noodles.
The best thing is the digital kiosk because it has English so you can see what each ingredient looks like.
Sadly, the hotpot place doesn't have this!!
As I was able to see all the ingredients in picture form, it helped me to order the items I liked hence a delicious bowl of noodles.
The broth I chose was the healthy which contained nourishing peach gum.
All the ingredients were fresh and tasty.
For drinks, I had the butterfly pea tea and ginger pandan tea.
Personally I liked the pandan ginger because it was fiery ginger with a soothing fragrant pandan aroma.

[Review 6663] Modernized Macaunese delights @ 小島•澳門菜 Cafe Terceira

In Hong Kong there are not many Macau style restaurants about but then Macau is only an hour away by ferry.
Anyway, tried Cafe Terceira which appears in their teething stages.
Ordered the signature suckling pig bun which comes with piri piri sauce.
The suckling pig was spot on as it crispy and tender but the sauce didn't look like piri piri sauce and it is totally different from official pictures on facebook.
It was definitely a modern interpretation of the Macau style Pork Chop bun as the crispy bun had some sort of sweet creamy sauce on it as well as butter!
Also tried the platter which had modern twists to it like the Bacahal fish balls stuffed with American yellow processed cheese!
The cheese toasts were fancy with a HK twist as it wasn't cheesy with some sort of creamy sauce and truffle.
NICE!!
The trotters in vinegar were rather springy, very different to the soft ones at sam jaan dung.
Fun and different to eat though!
On the platter, there was this red sauce which I suspect is the real piri piri sauce because it was nice and spicy but with a HK style sweet twist to it.
Overall, I like the way they have interpreted the dishes, Hong Kongers will love it!
