Yung Kee Cart Noodles
2018-08-10 55 瀏覽
Previously tried this cart noodle joint in Kowloon City.
They specialize in cart noodles with a choice of herbal broths.
Tried this new branch of Yung Kee to see if there was any difference.
As it was new, there are only three broths : Pork broth, Vegetarian Mushroom and White pepper.
Tried all three and each one is very different.
The white pepper one can be very peppery while the vegetarian one is very sweet so the pork bone broth is rather neutral.
For the noodles, the thick ones were the best.

[Review 6758] Why the sweetness @ 百味川 Pak Mei House

I have always wanted to try this place because of the mountain yam noodles.
There are various broths you can choose from just like cart noodles and then you choose the toppings.
I chose the spicy Sichuan broth which was very spicy.
The noodles were thin and absorbed the broth nicely but sadly the broth was sweet as well as spicy so it was nasty.

Mini Aquarium with soggy sand

I was in the area so discovered this cute joint.
The mini Aquarium dessert looked fun to eat so decided to try it.
Each one is garnished with so called sand and a candy seashell.
The stuff that was pretending to be sand was soggy if you compare it to the pictures on social media.
Anyway, apart from that it was just a bland lychee mousse with butterfly pea jelly on top.
It was not that sweet and the lychee mousse was light and not too creamy.

A few years ago you could get these wines with pearlescent glitter that would swirl like a galaxy.
Now tea shops are going to the next level by making their drinks sparkle.
As I am not keen on sweet drinks, I just sipped the top as most of the syrup was at the bottom so I was ok.
All I can say is that they are photogenic but it was psychologically weird drinking all this glittery goo.
On another note, it was really impressive that one of the staff spoke good English.
As for the brown sugar milk, it was very sweet, but then again, just don't mix the bottom or just drink the milk at the top.

I love Gnocchi so went there specifically for that, however it was sold out so I had to choose something else. This also happened in another restaurant nearby so gnocchi must be very popular or very unpopular in Tinhau.
Anyway, ordered the mussels for in creamy white wine sauce $85.
It was very sweet and creamy with a white wine aftertaste. Since I had the mussels I ordered the chips baked with cheese $52 as chips and mussels go well together.
The texture was a bit strange because they were fried and then baked.
The cheese tasted like they put butter/margarine on it.
For desserts had the baked marshmallow with icecream $43 which was on a layer of non sweetened cornflakes.
It was simply delicious and reminds me of those homemade gooey chewy marshmallow crisps using marshmallow and rice crispies.

[Review 6754] Oysters and Dessert @ 薈景 Congress Plus

There is always something to remember at Congress Plus.
This time is was oysters and desserts.
As you can see, the oysters are fresh and glistening so I had quite few since I have been deprived of fresh oysters.
They were quite salty which can be balanced by the lemon but I liked them just how they were.
The dessert section was impressive as there were so many items that I liked especially the Earl Grey Madeleine dipped in Chocolate.
It had a strong Earl Grey flavour.
I also liked the Banana caramel pudding which was more like a cake with caramel on the side for you to drizzle.
Quite puzzled why it is called a pudding as the texture was more like a light sponge.
Then there were these pretty jellies with edible pansies and gold flakes which were mesmerizing and too beautiful to eat.
Anyway, there is the usual seafood and they even had lobster tail robatakayi which is a must for Hong Kongers!!!!
To summarize, I was glad to catch up on my oyster deprivation, Indian curry and desserts!!!

This joint is famous for matcha but I decided to try other items instead.
To be honest, I actually preferred the other items as they were quite good.
The strawberry softserve which I was expecting to be artificial tasted like strawberry froyo with a natrual tartness to it.
The pancakes were confusing as I thought it was different tea flavoured pancakes when it was the tea you get with it.
My favourite was the hojicha Swiss roll which was fragrant while the Swiss roll was moist and airy.
On the savoury side, I had the avocado salmon toast but unfortunately the avocado was too raw.
Finished with the matcha drink which was topped with a scoop of strawberry icecream.
