The food scene at Kwai Hing has finally changed and there are more options now.
As well as the usual chain restaurants, BIG COCK and Delicious Roasted Chicken got my attention.
Delicious Roasted Chicken is on the 8th Floor while BIG COCK is on the escalator accessed floors.
Went to BIG COCK as the name sound sexy if you know what I mean!
The pictures of Delicious Roasted Chicken on openrice were disappointing as you would expect some roast chicken but the appear to serve noodles which is a waste of a good name.
Anyway, settled at the BIG COCK for lunch.
It was Taiwanese fare, so had the Beef tendon noodles.
There was quite a lot of tendons in the bowl which were soft and gelatinous.
The wide noodles had a good chew to it.
The Taiwanese oyster omelette was quite stodgy but the sauce made it better.
The squid patties were nicely done.
The scallion oil noodles were a bit bland for my liking.
Overall the food was ok but look quite different from the menu photos.
Finished with the mango smoothie and fruit tea.

[Review 6784] Pandan Gelato @ 巴里島沙嗲Q Bali SatayQ

Went here again because of the pandan gelato.
The pandan taste was spot on but the texture was not on!
Although it tasted great, the texture was horrible because it was powdery and crumbly which made it very expensive for $35.
I think the fault lies in the cream they used as I have made easy icecream before where you just blend the flavour and whipping cream.
The icecream I made had the exact horrible texture as this one owing to the cheap crappy cream which ruined everything.

Beefy Ramen
2018-08-21 845 瀏覽
There are lots of beef noodles around such as pho, Taiwanese beef noodles and now there is beefy ramen.
According to the piece of paper stuck on the table, their broth is made with beef bones while the Wagyu beef slices on top of the ramen are from the rear part cow leg.
As for the noodles, they are made in an environment without air.
[I'm not quite sure what that means but that is what the guy said]
There are two broths to choose from: truffle or beef:
I ordered the plain beef ramen as I wanted to try the beef bone broth without any distractions which is why I left out the options such as egg, fungas etc.
For the beef slices, there are two choices: sashimi or broiled
When it came, I tried the beef broth first.
I was expecting it to be oily but it wasn't and surprisingly lighter than the usual pork bone broths.
The beef taste was there and enhanced even more by the spring onions.
As for the Wagyu beef, it had a chew to it.
Overall, it was quite a good experience and makes a change from pork.
There are condiments like sesame oil, fried garlic crisps and pickles but I didn't really need it as it was tasty enough.

[Review 6782] Cantonese fare in a convenient location @ 味苑 Mei Garden

This restaurant in right outside Wanchai station so it is really convenient. From the outside, there is a counter with roast meats and marinated dishes.
Once you sit down, they will bring over the full menu which has other classic dishes like sweet and sour and other traditional dishes.
As I love sweet and sour, I had the sweet and sour prawns with peaches.
The portion was smaller than expected but the prawns were springy and huge.
I didn't like the batter coating though.
Also had the lo shui goose feet which were rather sticky but not soft enough.

Instant noodle winner goes to LMK!!

Since my last visit, there are so many new dishes on the menu.
The most impressive page was the instant noodles.
There are at least 8 different ways they serve it.
It was really difficult choosing between the laksa one and the fermented beancurd one.
In the end I had the fermented beancurd so that I could compare it to this other restaurant.
There was so much chicken and the fermented beancurd sauce was light but at least it wasn't cloyingly sweet compared to this other restaurant.
Also had the typhoon shelter chowmein but that turned out super spicy.
My other friend had the fried rice which I wasn't a fan of because it was very HK style with a strong charred metallic wok taste.
For drinks, I had my favourite pineapple iced drink.
The new presentation was a surprise with star shaped pineapple ice cubes.
This drink is just basically pineapple juice!!
Another fun drink to have is the Milo Dino.

Spotted this joint across the road because of the cute tiger.
At first I got confused because I thought it was the curry place Tiger Room and Tiger San but it turns out to be Tiger Cart noodles.
Anyway, I was captivated by the noodles because they had beetroot and spinach.
As I have had spinach numerous times, I decided to try the beetroot but it was sold out.
Luckily they offered me Kale noodles as I haven't tried that before.
The noodles had a grassy smell and flavour while the texture was very slippery when you pick them up with chopsticks.
The vegetable broth I had was very sweet but quite nice.
Next time I plan to try other stuff as the were having a media shoot so I got a sneak preview of the other items.

Went here because of the new pistachio nutella kiwi crepe/waffle.
It was good that they had two versions: crepes or waffles.
As I like crepes, I got the crepe version.
Before I had the dessert, I had the scrambled egg and avocado toast.
The scrambled eggs had a light and fluffy texture but it needed a little salt while the avocados were not that ripe.
The crepe was good though, nutella and nuts are always good together and there was delicious silky cream in the middle.
Finished with Jasmine Tea and Mocha.
