The Oyster House lives up to its name

Finally tried The Oyster House which has been around for years in Wanchai.
With a prime location in Wanchai and the fact that it has been here for a while, the food should be good and they also have another restaurant called CHIC in TST.
Oysters are a must try so ordered three different ones to try.
Personally I like strong tasting oysters.
The oysters we had were Yellow Stone, Spanish XL and French Sentinelle.
My favourites were the Spanish and French as the flavours were strong.
The Spanish was obviously the star of the show because of its size and it tasted good of course.
There were no shell fragments which is good even though this the most basic requirement as not all restaurants are able to serve shell free oysters.
Next was the Red Prawn topped with Uni.
Uni lovers will love this as the uni was silky and creamy, however I found it delicious eating it with the bread provided as I love bread!!
Pan Seared Japanese Hokkaido Scallops with wild mushrooms and bonito flakes:
The scallops were tender and flavoured by the smoky bonito flakes.
Linguine Vongole:
For carbs, the linguine was al dente but it was quite spicy.
Char Grilled Canadian Natrual pork chop:
I loved the pork chop as it was juicy with and not over seasoned.
Less is more in this case I could taste the fresh pork
Finished with the banoffee pie which was very satisfying because it was banana on a layer of caramel sauce and biscuit base with cream.
The whole thing put together was not too heavy or sweet so this is definitely worth ordering.
Will be back dinner especially for the oyster!!

Revisiting old Kowloon Bay and Camlux factory

Participated in a local tour by [程尋香港 Hide and Seek Tour] which started off at Kowloon Bay Station and ended at Camlux Hotel with afternoon tea included.
The tour conducted in Cantonese was very interesting and we found out more about the past of Kowloon Bay.
One of the old factories used to produce toys and Camlux hotel was a factory that made Camel Vacuum Flasks.
(Basically a Hong Kong version of Thermos).
Being a converted factory hotel, the rooms are spacious yet every corner of the building holds a hint of its former glory.
CAMLUX is the first hotel in Kowloon Bay!!!
Furnace
At every hotel room, there is information to tell you what the room was used for.
After touring the hotel, we had tea at Cafe 15.
On each table, there is a Camel flask with coffee in it included with the tea set.
In the tea set, there were scones, sandwich, cookies etc.
Surprisingly the chocolate cheese pizza was quite good as well as the savoury items.
Will be back for dinner and see the food fares!

Basically all restaurants in this building have a great view.
Went here to celebrate a friends birthday.
Had the 6 course dinner for $688.
Started with some bread:
The first appetizer was Japanese Top grade Abalone which was served on juicy Daikon.
Next was the Pan seared Hokkaido Scallop which was complimented with silky sweetcorn puree.
It was colorfully arranged with lettuce and ham.
Moved on to the mushroom clear soup which was light and comforting.
The wild mushroom & black truffle slice pasta was wonderful as they used fresh thin egg pasta which hung all the flavour and sauce.
For mains, had the pan seared slowed cooked Iberico pork which was simply juicy and tender.
Dessert finished perfectly with my favourite Tiramisu.

Great food in a secluded spot

I was in the area and wandered down the basement for the loo, Fiatte Cafe has closed so kept walking about and discovered this at the other end.
Decided to try it as they had the Earl Grey Chocolate.
For food, the menu is divided into different pages according to Light, Medium and Heavy etc.
Settled for the Cheeky (Pork) Hash n Eggs.
The scrambled egg was so good because it was not heavy yet it had a fragrant egg taste.
I loved the cubes of potato because I love my carbs.
The pork was a bit fat for my liking.
Next was the beef salad, I was very impressed with the beef as it was lean and full of beef flavour topped with fried rice vermicelli.
It was tossed in tomato and cucumber slices in a spicy Thai dressing with chilis and black pepper so it was quite spicy.
Finished with the Earl Grey Chocolate which is a must order if you like Earl Grey as you can really taste it as well as the chocolate but the pairing of the two makes it less sweet so I loved it.

Crabs to start 2018

I go to exhibitions frequently these days as there are more captivating booths to see.
New Shanghai on the first floor near the entrance.
The restaurant was spacious with high ceilings that you forget you are at the exhibition centre.
That night we had crab because it was in season.

Began with starters which was beautifully arranged in a modern triangle of salad with spare ribs, sea cucumber and jellyfish in spring onion oil.
0 讚好
Next was the warming Crab Meat Soup with Fish Maw and Conpoy.
It was thick with rich crab taste and it was vibrant orange in colour.
0 讚好
Following the soup was Steamed Fresh Crab Claw with Preserved Vegetables, Yunnan Ham
and Huadiao Wine.
There was so much Huadiao wine which was strong and fragrant, it was quite strong so the crab didn't really need any other seasoning.

The tofu was served in two ways, coated in salt and pepper and served in crab and pumpkin sauce.

You eat them together so that you get two textures.
0 讚好
I loved the crispiness of the tofu.
The star of the show was the Stir-fried Cantharellus, Assorted Mushrooms and Crab!!
It was huge and the crabmeat was fully flavoured, while the assorted mushrooms were tasty.
As well as crab, we had vegetables to balance the meal.
0 讚好
Finished the meal with a cute Shanghai Xiao Long Bao as it is the signature of Shanghai Dishes!!!
For dessert, I was surprised at the choices and they are also doing a pink themed dessert for charity.
I chose the glutinous rice balls with wine sauce and fruits because not often they are paired with fruits.
Not only did it look colourful, but the fruits made it taste nicer than osmanthus!!
Can't wait to see what other creations they come up with next.

[Review 6923] Tasting portions @ 666泰船麵 666 Boat Noodle

Went here during the summer so I don't know if they are still that good.
I have been meaning to try this place but it is located between HKU and Sai Ying Pun.
Anyway, went here one Sunday as I was craving for some noodles.
All the noodles were around $25 per bowl and the portions are small which meant I could try others.
Started with the Classic boat noodle which did not disappoint as the broth was strong.
Next was the Tomyumkung noodles which had a refreshing flavour as well as a spicy kick.
The Hainan Chicken was ok but not as good as the noodles.
The curry noodles was too spicy for my liking.
Despite trying four items, I will still be coming back because there are some soups I want to try!!

Got the Halloween pumpkin mousse as it was getting near Halloween.
The mousse was light and silky and there were real pieces of pumpkin in it.
In between the layers were sponge cake to separate it.
Luckily there were layers of sponge cake as the mousse was so damn sweet otherwise it would have been perfect and it was lacking some spices like Cinnamon.
