Sharks fin dumplings

There are quite a few branches of this but I can't find the address of the one near HKU station.Anyway, they serve the usual dimsums but I was attracted to the mock shark fin dimsum because it looked appealing.
Same with Chinese wet markets and Chinese takeaways, Chinese people don't queue.
It is the battle of who shouts the loudest to order to get attention.
Managed to get served and ordered the steamed mock shark fin dumplings.
The lady tried to get to me order two portions which I would have but they didn't have another portion of the mock shark fin dumplings.
They definitely looked good and after taking a bite, the ingredients were fresh.
But hell came when I ate the rest because the bottom was rancid as it was the part that was in contact with the steamer which probably isn't so c.l.e.an.
You can imagine how many times the steamer has been used which accumulates that smell!
So anyway, I only ate the top of the shaomai which tasted good.

[Review 7050] Lunch noodles at Quan Alley @ 寬巷子 Quan Alley HK

Lunch noodles at Quan Alley

Quan Alley is famous for hot pots and instaworthy hot pot ingredients that resemble Taiwanese sweet treats like Pineapple cakes and donuts etc.
I went there specifically for lunch because they serve noodles.
The great thing about the lunch sets is that they have my favourite duck blood and tofu in the hotpot broth.
There are three sections on the menu: stirred noodles, noodles in soup and stirred noodle with duck blood and tofu in hotpot soup.
During the day, there is less people and you get lovely view of the harbour depending on where you sit.
Started with drinks.
Had the healthy bittermelon juice which is great for detoxing while the preserved plum was appetizing.
For the noodles, had the Iberico pork with beauty soup and the Wagyu with Spicy soup.
As well as the noodles, the star of the show had to be the silky duck blood and the tofu which absorbs the signature broths.
Wagyu is a must because it was so soft and melts in your mouth.
As for the stirred noodles it depends if you prefer a sweet sesame touch or spicy Sichuan peppercorn tone because there are two different ones to choose from.
Overall, I am really glad I tried lunch because it had the soup and my favourite elements of hotpot.

I was surprised to see this old school bakery sell carrot walnut muffin cake and banana cake so got them.
I wasn't impressed with the lady following me about in the tiny store.
The receipt matched the old style bakery though printed in purple dotted ink.
Not your traditional Western style carrot cake because it contains raisins and walnut and you can see it was quite oily.
The banana cake wasn't nice because it was too sweet and there was no banana taste in it

Malaccan Christmas Dinner

As well as Turkey, you can celebrate Christmas by eating Chicken or Turkey in different ways!!!At Malacca, they have sets for two or four people with a choice of prawns or crab alongside their famous Hainan chicken.
As well as the set menu, the new menu is stylish and more informative than before.
Here was what we had:
Iced grass jelly.
This is the best grass jelly drink I have had as the syrup is served separately.
Pie Tee:
These were crispy bites filled with sweet and spicy vegetables.
Satay Skewers:
There was beef and chicken skewers, both were sweet accompanied with a nutty peanut dip.
Bak Kut Teh:
The bak kut teh was comforting because I love the taste of bitter herbs.
Next was the black pepper crab which was strong and the roti was a great thing to go with it because you can use the sauce for that.
For the mains, had the Hainan Chicken.
The chicken was silky and the I love the rice because it was infused with aromatic lemongrass.
Dragon vegetables:
These are a must try if you come here because they are imported from Malaysia.
They taste a bit like Indian lettuce and chives but are much more delicate.
For dessert, you get the coconut roll and durian dumpling but I was quite full so only had the dumpling.
Will be back again for more Malaccan delights.

While I was at TST station, spotted a poster for HD chocolates.
Since I was eating at QA nearby, went to HD to have a look.
The chocolates cost $260 per box with 10 dark chocolates, 1 white choc and 1 milk chocolate.
I liked them because of they were dark.
My favourites were the nutty ones especially the macadamia and pistachio.
The chocolate banana one turned out to be nice as it wasn't artificial.

Went here randomly and realized it was the joint my friend recommended for fish dumplings.Started off with the tofu and rice which was too garlicky and the rice was too hard so that was a waste.
The fish dumplings were as good as recommended.
Strangely, they were not as fish as expected and luckily I didn't find much bones in it but evidently it seems like a mix of pork and fish.
They were a little salty but worth trying.

[Review 7045] Great food in SKW @ 新記雞粥 Sun Kee Chicken Congee
13/12/2018

My Japanese friend was captivated by the poster with the fried rice with prawns on it outside the restaurant so I reluctantly went in knowing that these are product shots.
Anyway, my other friend had to do the ordering as they didn't really speak English.
I decided to try the congees and noodles as the stuff people were eating looked good.
The chicken congee was good but you have to be careful of brittle bones that can crack your teeth.
The wonton noodles were unexpectedly good as it was laced with sesame oil and the noodles had a good texture.
The stir fried flat noodles were a treat because they had a non beef version.
The stir fried soy sauce noodles were different too because you can choose with beef or liver so chose the liver.
There was more liver than the noodles itself but sadly the noodle texture was a bit too hard for my liking.
The steamed rice rolls turned out to be the best as they were not too soggy or chewy loaded with spring onions and dried shrimp.
I am now tempted to try the branch in mongkok but mk being mk, the quality might not be as good as this branch.
